Happy Birthday Hive. Here are my Hive goals in 2024 & beyond šŸ˜ƒ

Ā
Hive turns four years old today, so it feels like a good time to reflect on my time here and outline plans for the future.

I found Hive through Splinterlands in January 2022, as part of my mission to understand crypto and wallets and NFTs once and for all. Itā€™s been about 26 months since then, and Iā€™ve yet to find a better place to learn and explore Web3 than Hive.

šŸŽÆ My big Hive goal

Between now and Hiveā€™s big 5 year anniversary, the key for me is going to be balance.

Iā€™ve gotten myself involved in all sorts of projects here, and itā€™s starting to seem like the market could be getting fun soon (itā€™s been bearish for almost all my 26 months). Focus and prioritization is important for me to make the most out of life and blockchain pursuits.

Non-Hive Things to balance:

  • Family: we recently welcomed a daughter to the world, and Iā€™ve been blogging to her here on Hive. Itā€™s nice that I can enshrine some writing for her to maybe one day look back on and read. And as time goes on, sheā€™ll need more and more of my energy.
  • Work: I have a lovely full time job in communications that is critical for supporting the fam. As much as we all hope for blockchain moons, from a risk perspective I still have to pour a lot of time & energy into the main gig. (Plus, I like it! For reals.)
  • Health: Actifit is of course my Hive overlap with this part of life. Since the kid was born Iā€™ve been bad at exercising and that needs to change ASAP. Some crypto rewards on top is a sweet sweet cherry.

ā™¦ļø So amid that pesky IRL stuff, thereā€™s Hive. Itā€™s been cool to see how much stuff Iā€™ve been able to cram in, much of it during a time where there was no child and I worked as a freelancer. I probably canā€™t keep full steam on all of it, hence the goal of finding the right balance.

Right now, Hive priorities & goals are:

  • Completing Hunting Midnight. Iā€™ve published about 134,000 words in this original story on Hive. There are maybe 35,000 to 50,000 left to write and/or publish. Fiction has always been important to me, and experimenting with it in Web3 is pretty much how I got started here. I am also starting some syndication efforts for this tale outside of Hive, with pointers back to our chain.
  • Helping the Hive brand by developing processes & documentation. I enjoy macro-level systems thinking and design, so Iā€™m hoping to lend a hand and be helpful in guiding Hive itself towards more efficient governance. Currently, Iā€™ve structured my approach around the UNHIDE project. Moving through the phases described there will be another big goal though 2024.
  • There are also many projects I assist, either in content, game design, marketing, etc. The work involved in each ebbs and flows, so this is kind of like a wildcard. The two big beta games Iā€™m part of today are WOO and Rise of the Pixels. Iā€™ve also helped with Holozing, Rising Star, dCrops, Terracore, Golem Overlord, and thereā€™s at least two stealth gaming projects that could pop up this year that Iā€™m involved with.
  • Non gaming projects abound too, like the Scholar & Scribe community, a Hive content automation project, and networking with people in and outside of Hive to try and spread the good word.

āš–ļø Key Goal: Balance

So much to do, and so little time.

My strategy is to start digging in on the health & exercise bit, so as to improve energy reserves for all the other stuff. Family takes priority, and the Job supports the fam. Hive and fiction is what ā€˜fills in the gapsā€™ and keeps me sane amid diapers and meetings.

I suppose thereā€™s a social life to consider somewhere in this mix, but having a young kid already kinda torpedoes that to a degree ;)
Ā

šŸŽÆ TL;DR goals

  1. Find balance between:
  2. Completing Hunting Midnight on chain
  3. Completing the four phases of UNHIDE
  4. Supporting other peopleā€™s projects

Canā€™t wait to see where we are on March 20, 2025!
