A couple nights ago I was thinking about ways to add more fun and excitement to the Hive community and I came up with an idea for a competition - No actual computer hacking knowledge necessary! I'd like to get all of your feedback on this.
Here's how it would work
- I would create a new Hive acount on blocktrades and write down the randomly generated 32-digit master password.
- I would fund the account with the prize(s) which would likely be liquid Hive, but could also include HBD, Hive Engine tokens, etc.
- I would write a clue for each of the 32 digits and try to make them somehow related to Hive.
- I would then make a post announcing the "Hive Hacker Challenge" with the account's username and the clues.
- Anyone who wants to could try to solve the clues to construct the password and then enter it in Hive Keychain or another login method to unlock the account.
- The winner would then be able to transfer the prize to their own account and could even make a post from it to proclaim themselves the winner!
Example questions
The actual challenge would have clues for 32 characters, but here's a small example of what they might look like if the password to the account as "u9t":
- The only vowel in the last name of the TRON founder who purchased Steemit Inc. (lowercase)
- The number of rounds that you'll have to wait to play your most powerful spells in Ragnarok.
- The second letter in the original name for Splinterlands. (lowercase)
Let me know what you think
Hopefully this makes sense! Let me know what your thoughts are in the coments!
If I do this, would you participate in the challenge? How big of a prize would be worth it? Should the questions be more difficult (or easier) than my examples? Do you have any ideas for how to make it even more fun?
I suspect this is an "if you build it, they will come" situation. This reminds me a little of @geekgirl's social experiment from a few months ago.
I'll look through her posts to try to find what you're talking about.
hmmmmmmmm, sounds like a fun thing.. like a hunt to crack the code! :) It sounds cool to me, but have u asked someone who knows hive more.. like if it's ok to do? not that I don't like the idea, but it is kinda hackish. :P
I think this is one of the joys of the Hive. No need to ask permission! I don't think this qualifies as actual hacking for a number of reasons, but maybe I am overlooking something.

Sounds interesting, something I would like to take part in... Great initiative 👍
I surely hope you make your clues way more difficult than that. Or else the account will be owned in ten minutes once the competition opens.
I'm severely constrained for time at present (a beloved friend passed away last evening, fucking Covid, so I have to help and do work as well and more), but I'm very tempted to join in on such a hacking challenge.
Idea: Get a company (an anti-virus one, or a social site, etc.) or so to sponsor a prize. In exchange some of the questions can be about the sponsor, so it's great publicity for them.
Look at the real challenges hackers have to face to exploit a vulnerability, without getting technical, and include that in your clues.
Keep us updated, and make sure the competition happens. Or the bunny gets it. 😝

I suggest you offer not masterpassword buy the posting key instead to be decoded. Then if code is cracked (make it more diffilicult too). Succesful hacker(s) can then make post from the account, as well as from own acxount) to claim prize(s) but not take over the account. You can then reuse it for following week/months competition.
You could also make it an educative hacking competition, where a lesson/article needs to be read and understood to crack each digit.
Eg. Answer for a character is within this page: https://ecency.com/hive-153630/@atma.love/matrix-8-white-paper-abstract The question/clue is: third digit of small hashtag to help you be rewarded with Knowledge, Leadership & Understanding. 1000 GIFT tokens for you if you crack it and some more

I would likely not take parr, but a 100 HIVe first prize might tempt me, but probably not. 1000 Hive, probably. But my circumstances are different to others.
Good idea to seek sponsorship from privacy projects.

That's a pretty great idea. You can try this with one of my accounts which uses a mnemonic phrase as the key seed (password), may be easier to work with.
