Vigilante.tv | All payouts for posts now declined

in #hive2 years ago

Hello Hive community! After Jeff Berwick's latest video promoting users to go on Hive I saw a lot of great comments and issues that users were having with Vigilante.tv. Mainly some see it as trying to make money off other creators' content. That is not the intention. The intention is to give banned and great creators a platform to get more views.

So effective immediately all payouts will be declined until we have finished programming a solution that will decline payouts for content creators that are not linking back to Vigilante.tv showing their support. Users will still earn money commenting and voting on comments. You will see the line through on peakd (https://peakd.com/@tdvtv) but not on vigilante.tv, but we will be adding that asap.

It will take a few days to program this new feature so please stay tuned.

Many thanks to the Hive community for the feedback. We will keep developing this platform, help it expand and show the possibilities of this technology.

Best Regards,
Michael Bach
COO @ DollarVigilante & CryptoVigilante

Just a small update. I was made aware of the below loophole by someone on Discord, so as a requirement to have payouts activated we will now also required that the videos are not also posted on their own accounts so there is no double dipp.

Thanks for the responsive response.

I hope you continue in the anti-abuse conversations, we could use your hp to take on some of the abuse by those that have more than we do.
Until we have enough to nullify any retributions most are hesitant to bite off the too big to chew accounts.
Some of us have stuck their necks out and had them chopped off.

The crab bucket needs all the crabs it can get to balance out the advantage the earlier adopters got by being early.

Of cource, I am up for helping. I think @agorise is in a chat with some of you already? I am now in the discord as well.

Hope that Jeff is getting benefited from this views. Maybe we can get Jeff to 'sign' on the txid to his wallet.

Can you elaborate on what this means? Sorry if that is a dumb question. If you can explain it maybe I can make it happen :)

The way I understood it, the issue is that the author doesn't manage his account anymore and you are pushing his content instead. There is fear you are hustling revenue away from him or he is trying to squeeze a secondary rewards for the same content.
So what i said it's that he can 'sign away' the control to you through the Blockchain.

That is interesting. For now we will just decline payments unless they verify it is ok via a backlink from the description of the original video, and if they ok it then 90% to them and 10% to us. If they do not have a Hive account they will need to create one or the videos we post from them will have declined payout disabled. I am going to make a public spreadsheet of all creators and who are declined, who gets rewards and where etc for full transparency for the Hive community. We will only get rewards (10%) if the creator verifies and has a Hive account where we can send the 90%.

I believe that platform of yours is an interesting concept and I am glad you choose to build on HIVE for that. The initial concept was not ideal and I understand why some of the stake holders have been vary of it - independent of the controversial topics. Our platform has seen so many different attempts of abuse over the years, people are not taking it lightly where rewards are going to. Your latest step to decline all payouts and develop new solutions is a step in the right direction and indicates an interest in a healthy relationship with the HIVE ecosystem. I hope you come up with some creative and fair ways to follow up on your own mission without unreasonably benefitting from other people's content and help to educate your own users in avoiding double posts. There will be many eyes on you.

Thank you for your kind words. Finding good people in the Hive community that not only critiques but are also accepting when one takes it to hart and changes is a big motivator. I do understand there are many people out there just trying to game the system in order to squeeze out a few bucks. That is not my vision for Vigilante.tv and I hope over time I can prove it to the community.

I see this as huge for Hive that TDV has made this move. Now @dollarvigilante TDV if you could make it so each post vote strength can be changed it would help you get more comments since I do not have strong enough power to only be voting 100% strength. It is a Hive thing LOL but I am happy to see content I already follow incorporating into Hive.

That is a good point. I have been thinking about that myself actually. That is going on the todo list. Right now the priority is taking care of the decline payout system, but this will definately be at the top of the list!

I tried to play the Rising Star game ...
It's probably that I just don't know how to turn on popups in Brave browser, I looked everywhere in the browser settings, I just can't find it. It did show some cards, but I never seen any pizza box card, nor a coffee cup card. I even bought some cards on the market, but although it said I payed for it, I haven't paid for it, and I didn't get the cards.
In other words: I can't get it to play. Not on a PC with windows and Brave browser, I couldn't. I know, if I'd want to complain about it, there's a group for that. But I'm not complaining. Just a notification, I couldn't get it to work for me.

Many thanks to you sir, for putting your programming skills to good use!
It is much appreciated!

Big shoutout to @kencode @agorise for connecting Hive and peertube.

They both are appreciated very much as well.
Thank you for mentioning peertube. I think it's worth subscribing to, from what I have read there so far.

what's wrong with 3speak.tv?

We do have something in the works for 3speak, but it will be something much different but can not talk about it just yet :)

Just wondering why @themarkymark downvote on this post? Just because?

Mainly some see it as trying to make money off other creators' content. That is not the intention.

@kencode specifically said that was in fact the intention. He clearly said in no uncertain terms that there is nothing wrong with Jeff making money off other people's work. If it wasn't for downvotes, it would have continued forever I suspect.

Some video creators might not ever want to get a Hive account and that's fine.

  1. Jeff is providing those video creators a valuable service so at some point in the future I'm sure he intends to earn a return on that investment by helping them. If I was hosting content for people, I would too.
  2. The expense of hosting video is insanely expensive (usually thousands of dollars) so of course ROI would be welcome.
  3. Those Creators are probably very happy to have another site promoting their work. So, like Youtube, making money off other people's work is justified imo and probably appreciated by them too.

Youtube barrages you with ads, whereas Vigilante.tv might someday earn a few Hive coins for providing the Creators with hosting service. Youtube needs this kind of competition imo.

That’s all well and good but you fail to understand Hive works off a shared reward pool to reward original content and Jeff making $500+ a day posting other peoples content is not acceptable.

He will only get rewards if they consent to it from now on. In a week or so when development is done we will activate rewards only for creators linking back. I do admit it was a mistake not to do that from the start. Could have been my lack of understanding Hive and the community.

I think it is a little more nuanced then that. TDV gets 10% of the post earnings from creators who are linking back and approving of it. If not from now on it will be set to payment declined and they will still get all the views and links to their content. The 10% of those who approve is not really a lot. It will not even cover 0.1% of server cost, manpower and development. My idea behind vigilante.tv is to have a curated place for banned content creators and great content in danger of being banned. Also to get more eyes on that content helping people seeing the truth.

That’s not the impression I got when he said straight out said that Jeff has all the right to profit off other peoples videos.

Maybe just a miscommunication. I think with cancelling the payouts for non linkers and looking at the views the creators are getting creators only stand to benefit now, and I am 100% open to feedback from the community to make changes and improve!
