My evolution on Hive over nearly 8 years onchain

in #hive3 months ago

Looks like I only focus on a few things at the time on Hive, for 2024 the time I have spent on Hive has basically been on the inleo platform, threads and the vision of the team this ecosystem got me back in the game of content creation. Years before specially around covid time, I was more active on splinterlands, doing battle and doing some curation on Hive but I have switched to paying attention to the creator economy and that worth considering.

Quick resume of focus(estimate based on memory so not exact).

Background history of my account

2024Inleo & growth / 8 years here on November 16th 2024

2016 - Coming from Bitshares, following Dan's project ; Looking around the legacy chain, was here witnessing the 2016 summer(July, August) price spike of steem before joining in November of that year.

2017 - First steemfest (not yet hivefest) in Lisbon in November after being here nearly one year, not much content from me but happy to meet some crypto people in real life. Seeing the potential of the project and investing some money ittle by litle over the years to build a stake on the platform for the long term.

2018 & 2019 - Moving abroad to South Korea for a year, still looking at what is happening around the legacy chain and joined splinterlands beta in November 2018, battle where different back then, not much interaction.

Around early 2018 I did my first one page project with a friend from uni where we used APis to display data from the blockchain as part of a bachelor in IT. Was fun to get into some tech to use steem/hive, project was called steemview, got discontinued after a while, it was more out of curiosity. As it happen I wouldn't get into building stuff on hive until the year 2024.

On splinterlands:

Played over 6984 battles in like 6 years, my highest rank was 233 with a 42 (coincidence?) longest streak, this probably was at the beginning when it was easier to win with less people. I remember joining I think the Beta packs were out and I was mainly playing with that set and some alpha cards I bought.

2020 - Hardfork and Covid

Well this was a very eventful year, as covid was about to start its rampage on our world, steem(the legacy chain) was about to fight for its survival. An attempt to disrupt the DPOS system by staking user's funds on exchange to start voting for witnesses.

You can find a great article written by theycallmedan on hackernoon: https://hackernoon.com/inside-trons-steem-takeover-attempt-and-the-birth-of-the-hive-blockchain-ya1g63249

March 20th, 2020 - Hive got its name

A nice article from Luke Stokes about how the events unfolded: https://peakd.com/steem/@lukestokes/how-steem-became-hive

I like point 25 about how at that time steem really got rebranded to Hive as the the legacy chain wasn't really a blockchain anymore therefore only the real chain remains, the Hive chain didn't start in 2020 but on:

March 24th, 2016 - Genesis block of Hive.

End of 2020 - Splinterlands, the land:

I invested in the development of splinterlands by buying a Tract of lands at the end of the year 2020. I was a nice way for them to raise money for the building that part of the game. We are nearly 4 years later and it is live, sadly not all the land has been claimed yet and it doesn't seem to have a lot of traction yet but hopefully the team will keep building and improving on it.

2021 -I was already aware of Leofinance by 2021, don't know when I joined the Leofinance community but I first delegated some Hive power at the end of 2020, I know the amount was lower then that but it got updated over the year to 52k HP, the time doesn't reset if you delegate more.

It was the DeFi times and the rise of liquidity pools, the Leo team seem to be capable of delivering actual software products/website and I got involve in the failed CUB project. Still I was very confident in the ability of the team and impressed by the fact that they stayed around for so olong building stuff, happy to see the results now with the LEo ecosystem and the flagship inleo.io

I posted about 2 posts in the year 2021, was mostly a passive investor looking still exploring hive and its project. Crypto prices went a little bit crazy by the end of the year, lot of enthusiastic people and a lot of meetup happening locally in Strasbourg. Hive reached $2,67 on December 1st 2021 according to CMC which I consider the peak for me, I actually remember that day I was with some hiver at the bar that evening.

2022 - Hivefest Amsterdam

by January 24th 2022 - pullback did bring the price back down to $0.8 and would carry on down until now, reaching a low of less than $0.17.

Still not too much activity on my part, doing some activity on peakd.

The highlight of my 2022 crypto year would be my second hivefest in Amsterdam in September https://peakd.com/hive-106258/@walterjay/a-close-encounter-getting-closer

It was nice to travel kind of normally after covid time(I think we still had mask on plane but not really sure)
I also attended the two virtual events for hivefest in 2020 & 2021

2023 - Discovering hive ledger and using engrave to build a blog. Posted like 3 long form content this year

2024 - Re discovering a passion for the ecosystem

This year really changed the dynamics for me as I got more involved as a owner on Hive, thanks to the great product, the flagship of the Inleo Ecosystem / Community within Hive inleo.io

This interface did change how I operate on hive, becoming my go to platform for writing content, this is where I wrote my 50 or so posts this year. With that came threads turning inleo into a twitter like interface where you can also post short content, now video that are published on IPFS via 3 speak.

Inleo is creating an environment where it feels easy to got back to it, start posting a quick thread, read, do some curation. I have mentioned it before but threads and threadcasts are making human interaction on chain more friendly and you can have conversation with people, it wasn't the same with comments under someone latest post.

Inleo is still growing and new feature are coming, soon we will have AI and subscriptions coming to the platform, creating a new way to monetize your account. You hive account is really a business, take care of it.

On the 16th of November 2024 will be my 8th year on HIVE you can see some of my anniversary badges on https://hivebuzz.me/@walterjay thanks to them.

I am leaving soon for an long multi months trip in Asia and avoid part of the European winter. I should be around Singapore for my next HIVE anniversary, not that I do something on those days :)

You can find one of my articles on inleo below, I will probably do some travel articles about my travels once it is ongoing.

That is all for me today, I hope you made the most of 2024 and are looking forward to the last quarter of this year.
