Hi! I'm Jan, the developer and main creator of HiveDebit as you know, and if you don't know me I'll say:
This is other really important and interesting update about what are we doing with @starkerz, because this is not a solo project, and you'll see on some posts photos of @starkerz talking about HiveDebit on @talentland and also some posts of people using HiveDebit Cards.
I had really interesting experience there, but most important, people really got an exciting experience using HiveDebit on Talent Land.
Beta needs more
As some of you guys know, hivedebit.com right now is in beta phase, it took me around 2 weeks to do a "stable" website that works with the Proof of Concept so anybody can test the simple version of this project, but it's not perfect 100% in his design and some other UX/UI stuff, but doesn't matter, proof of concept work and you can create cards, and make invoices/receipts and pay it with your hivedebit card, for example this receipt:
As you can see this is one of the Hive Debit Cards that I made for Talent Land, and also a random receipt, don't pay attention to it if you are not going to pay it.
We tried HiveDebit in many places around Guadalajara, and worked 100%, I'll show you some examples of it.
And also, we made a contest with 3 prizes for 3 random users that got a new account on Hive and a HiveDebit card:
First Place: 250USD, a HiveDebit card Special Edition.
Second Place: 150USD, a HiveDebit card Special Edition.
Third Place: 100USD, a HiveDebit card Special Edition.
And as you can see we gave with the prize, some metal covers with the Hive Logo so crazy guys like this two can't go with a Flipper Zero and hack your NFC Card (In the real practice you can't hahaha).

This version is working really good and a good proof of this is that you can start using it, without getting a card from me, without me and without ID, KYC or other stupid stuff.
And you can see it here, @minigunner created a Hive Debit card and made a payment through it, without me and with the Spanish version, 2 times crazy.
MAX THROTTLE TO HIVEDEBIT
As everybody knows, this is a transparent project where I say how are we going and what are we doing, so I'm gonna tell you that the work of 7 weeks have been done in around 4.5 weeks.
- iPhone Beta Version would be possible in middle time.
- NFC Compatibility research Done.
- Research on alternative technologies for enabling NFC payments on iPhones, Done.
- Study of communication protocols between NFC cards and the Hive blockchain, Done.
- Evaluation of Web NFC technologies for iOS support, Done.
- Beta version Done.
I made a lot of things even adding the time that it took me to go Guadalajara, the Medellin event with @arlettemsalase.
But beta version is going to get improved, as I said, I'm trying to do everything that I can do to have a version for iPhone so everybody can use it, I already made some improvements that I said I would do as Currencies, so you don't need to make conversion if you don't use USD, right now you can only try with MXN (Mexican Peso) and COP (Colombian Peso), but I'll try to get more currencies so everybody can use it without going Google and search USD to MyCurrency.
A mini stuff that I'll say is to end this post, is that the Real Version of HiveDebit is more decentralized than Bitcoin Lightning Cards, and it took me a lot of time to guarantee decentralization through this card and with a secure model, but never trust me, always verify, you'll see that the real version will be 10 times better than the Beta one.
I'm gonna try to have this updates ASAP (iPhone update is gonna take some time so don't be worried if you don't see it in the next Update) but for me also is really important to hear what you think about this, do you hate it? you are paranoic about it? Let me know, I'm also paranoic about this, this is one of the things that I really enjoy, so I can guarantee that this thing was made for paranoics by a paranoic.

I got this card in Graz. Can I actually use it anywhere, like in the nearest supermarket which only accepts fiat?
You can only pay HBD using this card and I think other crypto in the future. Not sure about Fiat.
So the vendor needs to accept crypto in the first place?
Yep, but let's leave this one for Jan and @starkerz and see what ideas they have. Plus I do not want to rush them with updates and upcoming ideas cause it is best to announce something when it's actually ready. And their team is already overworked.
Yep 100%, we are not gonna to create fiat solutions if we want to change the world, that's something that can be done in future, but right now we should be thinking on this incredible stuff, not if we can pay to fiat with this.
Wow, this is crazy honestly. Ahh, so hive debit card is now available. I wish we too can have ours. As for the iPhone beta version, am wishing you guys the best. You will also succeed in no distant time.The work you guys are doing for our success as hivers can't be overly emphasized. Personally, am 100% grateful.

Are you going to do an Android version? Is this only available in businesses that have agreed to use it or can it be used anywhere?
Can only be used on an Android Phone for now and can only be used to pay with HBD. Not sure if Fiat will even be possible.

Joke aside, i think for the small amount of time of this project, it is going well. People can already test it and without you having to do anything, but even more important, some people that don't know what a cryptocurrency is, tested it in Guadalajara and it went well. For an MVP it is really good.
I wish I could get a HIVE debit card that works with Visa or Mastercard and would also take my direct deposit checks every month. That would be dope, but those devil bankers on Wall Street won't let that happen any time soon. We'll get there one day...
As I said in other comment, we should care more about getting people into this solutions and not into fiat stuff.
I agree, but I doubt the government will send me my check via HBD anytime soon or the country I live in ever will either.

As far as I understand, the app is only available for iPhones and not yet for Android smartphones?
Yes, just go and buy an NFC TAG 215 OR 216 and you can create it on your phone, if you have iPhone is a little bit more difficult but not impossible.

And yes, you can use it in EU, but the business has to accept HBD.
