After Hivefest: Lost and Found: A Tale of Illogical Choices and Hive Heroes

in #hivefest7 months ago

With my head still spinning and processing the whirlwind week of Hivefest and everything that followed, I decided to embrace the most illogical course of action. Illogical for some, but for me, well, I've always had a soft spot for the unconventional and the unexpected twists of fate. So why not write about the end first? After a smooth run of Hivefest—no crazy incidents, nothing majorly upsetting, like getting hit by a car or breaking my toe – I found myself in a situation that could have given me quite the bitter aftertaste if it wasn't for an unexpected hero and a bizarre twist of fate.

This is my second Hivefest post. More will be coming. I just like to start at the very end...

Our last Day in Rosarito, well almost...

I had one backpack filled with essentials and was in the process of distributing items into several bags as we were preparing to vacate our apartment. In a moment of fleeting decision, I placed the bag containing our passports and the kids' birth certificates inside the Hivefest bag. For a split second, an inner voice suggested putting it in my backpack instead, but I brushed it aside. Something I came to regret dearly.

Always follow that inner voice. It's a wise lesson.

And so, I left behind the Hivefest bag, containing our passports, birth certificates, and nothing else but Hivefest swag, on the bus that transported us into town. It wasn't until about an hour later that I realized my grave error.

I had been engrossed in sorting things on my laptop, attempting to book our return tickets, when the realization struck that I no longer had the bag in my possession. Meanwhile, Bryan, fondly known as @buttcoins, had taken a stroll to the nearby Taqueria with the kids. Since they had entrusted me with all their bags, I couldn't follow them immediately.

This illogical twist of fate had thrown us into a predicament. Our passports and vital documents were now embarking on an unintended journey—an adventure we hadn't bargained for but were about to navigate nonetheless.

The Hero of the Year

I called and texted Bryan and my daughter while panicking slightly. This panicky feeling grew by the minute and by the time I got the message that they were on the way back, I was in full-blown panic mode.
However, @buttcoins stepped in like a boss. He asked other drivers about how to find lost items, and they told him that the busses are checked at the end-point, which was an hour away, Tijuana is my guess.
Without hesitation he hopped on the next bus to (hopefully) get our lost bag back.
Within less than an hour, he messaged me that he didn't have it in his hands yet but that the bag had been found. And less than 30 minutes later again, there was the hero in the flesh, with my bag and all its contents. Quite hard to believe no one even wanted all those beautiful Hivefest/Mexico trinkets...😁
WOW. I couldn't believe my luck! @anomadsoul advised to buy a lottery ticket.
I did feel that lucky.
But even luckier to call a guy like @buttcoins my friend.
I owe you a drink (or two) next time hehe.

Conclusion

The day that started normal and ended with a twist. Wow, what a day. After this, I could finally book our flights back. Not that I wanted to leave...and neither did the children for that matter.
Probably a good thing that we had to go because those amazing donuts and other pastries from across the road would have killed us...

We arrived home around 11 am on Tuesday the 3rd, and the only hick-up I had since leaving Rosarito was an ATM that told me I'd used up my daily limit, even though I hadn't...Yeah, just when you think you get off scot-free, something comes up to remind us that shit happens.
Minor hick-up. I can honestly say that Hivefest, and the little bit of after-fest we had, was absolutely worth going through it.

P.S.: No worries. I'm only getting started. Just because I wrote our end of Hivefest story first, doesn't mean I'm done... Enough photos and vidoes for some time.

Oh, and just in case you don't know the hero in question...He's on the left in the photo above. Good times!

Every bus driver I spoke to told me it’s a public bus, ‘someone took it’
Even when I arrived at the end of the line and the boss guy said the same… he claimed to have called all the busses and nobody had it.

What actually got it found was I then told him we would be good friends by the end of the day, because I was going to stay with him and wait for each bus to come back and speak with each driver.
The thought of being next to me for the next hours really scared that guy into action 🤪🤣

He got on the horn and started 1 by 1 calling drivers like he had said he had done. Low and behold the bag was discovered.
A happy ending to a happy #hivefest Mexico.
Thanks for the good times @misslasvegas

What?!!! He didn't want to spend time getting to know what a wonderful guy you are!!! 😂😂
His loss!!

I would have totally panicked first!!! Just reading this got me a little sweaty!! haha
Glad @buttcoins the hero got to track it down and bring it back!
I like your style @misslasvegas
Why start at the beginning when you can start at the end :D

Haha. Well, I was closer to crying than anything else to be honest when I couldn't find my bag... But I decided not to panic as much because it wouldn't have helped either way. But yeah, definitely not the best moment of all of Hivefest LOL.

I love those films that start at the end and then work their way back through the journey. Look forward to seeing how it all started. Good to see your well and still devoted to all things hive. Much Love x

Me too! They're usually the most surprising ones hehe.

Good to see your well and still devoted to all things hive.

To be honest, I was losing sight of things for a while. Trying to build a business that wasn't going anywhere etc. This Hivefest was the boost that I needed to get my butt back into gear. I forgot that we're not just bloggers/vloggers but that Hive is our business. It was a good reminder...

Oh man, you are so lucky to have such a good person around helping you the way he did. You always seem to get things done one way or the other, I love it!

So happy you got the stuff back, I'd panic big time lol

Yeah, I was a little sweaty myself LOL. And beating myself up for being so stupid not to check that I had everything. And my youngest telling me he stepped over the bag when he got out of the bus...(He got out after me) LOL. Kids. No brain haha. I wonder where he gets it. 🤣 And yes, I was very lucky to have Bryan there. Even the way he insisted he'd wait for every driver there to pass by. I'm not sure if I would have even thought of doing that. I might have just taken the guy's word for it and left. So I count my blessings for sure!

it’s a public bus;'someone took it’

Those were exactly my thoughts. But then I realized that I've had some great luck here before with things and decided to do some positive thinking and keep telling myself it would be OK. I was about ready to walk the route past all of the trash cans to see if someone dumped the bag somewhere haha. But it wasn't needed.

The thought of being next to me for the next hours really scared that guy into action

He doesn't know what he was missing, haha.

A happy ending to a happy #hivefest Mexico.
Absolutely. Another great one for the memory box. 😊 Can't wait for the next one!
