Wishing you, dear reader of this blogpost - fellow Hivean, a great new year.
Let's hope we all stick together and not end up in more useless games of thrones through tanks, drones, rockets and bombers.
As our house is finally in the finishing phases (expecting rough delivery end of Q1 / beginning Q2) I'm getting more time for important stuff and start funnelling way more energy into Hive. Considering advising / helping out with projects, as I learned from housebuilding that a team gets so much more done than a lone wolf. Our house will be fed with a double redundancy internet connection with 5GB so I am seriously considering hosting a witness/seed cluster / backup in the basement, ofcourse partly powered by solar energy :)
I know I might have been more "away" from the chain. Seriously more than I liked. The house building was fun at first. Fun at second. But now I just want it over and done with. Having it kept me busy for about 2-3 years of my life. Currently we are doing the last plastering rounds and kitchen will be installed end of february, finally! We are already moving sooner and "camp out" in the new build. Still lots of work, like programming the lights, and installing server cabinets, finishing bathrooms etcetera, but the end is nigh :)
That said, I have always been keeping my witness server cluster up and running, updating and maintenance, with only a couple of missed blocks in the meantime. I did lower the HBD interest a bit down to more realistic figures the other day.
Some people said: are you leaving Hive? But imho it is impossible. For me at least. When being invested with time and dedication, for now, almost 9 years already (!), making many apps, launching a Hive chain based soda drink and witnessing some blocks, organising 9 (8) HiveFest events and a humbling work I am pretty proud off (in hindsight): designing the Hive logo.
It is so immensely humbling to see that end up on t-shirts across the world, boreholes in Ghana, on rally cars and exchanges across our blockchain world. Hive is part of my identity, giving me meaning in my life. Looking forward to breathe more blocks!

Great to still have you here! Earlier I saw a post about Charlie Shreem being a witness back in the Ned Scott era and it made me think about all the guys with a big name who have came and went but also there are several people still here from 2016.
People get frustrated and say they are going to leave but despite all the fracture points the various communities have tried different things. 1 month power down, liquid stake (DTube), and we have played with the interest rates on the HBD and seen how that has played out.
Also I see what is being rolled out on the Arena and have studied what happened to DeSo and Distrikt and many others.
What is here is still nothing short of amazing regardless of how upset or frustrated someone might get.

Happy 2025. I also don't think that I could ever leave Hive. In the past I was tempted to quit several times when things did not go my way. But for some reason I always returned. And now I am too invested(both money and time) to leave Hive.

I made the same mistake :( very painful no? i dont know who is the owner of that account. Back then when I made
this error I knew it was irreversible. I have notified @stoodkev about it as with me it happened by mis-tapping the autocomplete function in Keychain Mobile. We sifted through various potential solutions and there might have been some
updates since. Unfortunately I cant be of more help. We can only hope that one day the owner of the keys will return the Hive in the account to the senders. As you can see more people made the same
mistake. Makes us human I guess… :(

Happy New Year, Roeland! 🎉 Here's to a finished house (and Hive soaring to the Moon, as long as we're making wishes here :D). I can't imagine leaving Hive either and part of that is thanks to the two wonderful Hivefests I've attended which made it real, in a sense. Thank you for that and hope to see you around more!

Happy new year. We went through the joys of building a house 21 years ago. It takes a while, but you learn a lot. I'll be interested to hear about your solar as we got ours last year. Always good to see you on Hive and you are a core part of the community.
Thanks Steve! Solar will be put up in feb/march I think. Currently just storms, snow and rain, so no "solar revenue" anyhow. As we have quite some shade and varied sunny spots due to nearby trees, I think we go for the micro inverters e.g. by Enphase. Plus I would love to make the system "off the grid"-able. Do you have fancy batteries and such?
We have a fairly big battery, but cannot operate off grid. The supply is pretty reliable and we need the grid for charging the car. Although we're not getting much sun I can charge up the battery on cheap rate to keep costs down. Come the summer we will be exporting a lot. We have a west-facing roof with no shade. There's a single inverter for it all.
ok that sounds very nice. Also to partly charge the car just with solar :)
It might take a couple of days of bright sun to fully charge the car. At least in summer I will probably export more than I consume.

Thank you. Yes it will be finished. Actually this weekend we cleaned out bulk building stuff and put it on the local "ebay" for whomever needs it. Piping, isolation etcetera. That cleaning out of the cellar made us move in boxes from our storage back into the house, after almost 3 years in a container :)
It would be nice to see how it looks when you finish it! Of course, without ruining your privacy... 🙂

joooooooooo. 7 - 19 job. 6 days a week. Now had 2 weeks off, although started the 2 weeks only after the weekend, and started already the 2nd actually again :P But still feels like 2 weeks of holiday hahaha :)
