I'm Not Saying It's Likely, But...

in #homeless7 years ago (edited)

Impossible, nearly, to ever finish anything I start. My friend @matteylee707 did me favor and took a picture in his link at the bottom of this rant my quick sketch for a comic I sat and swore I'd finish when I got out of jail (because fuck your rules is why I was in). Things are especially hard when your on the road and/or homeless to finish.

One of my biggest complaints on the streets while I was homeless for the last time was finishing drawings or another art project of any variety was very difficult. My comic that I failed miserably to finish about ten times would usually get lost or stolen along with my bag if the weather didn't have something to say about it first. Priorities are in high demand while homeless and getting off the streets is usually above the list of high priorities rather than some shitty doodles. Relocation from street to home encompasses both something unfinished and most problematic.

This is why when you get to the streets it's real fucking hard to get off. Keep the following list in mind next time you decide not to lighten your load and toss some change at some very talented, albeit stinky and Dirty Kids.

The following link is not my property and they may hate me for this, but I love them regardless. This is one member of the band Rail Yard Ghosts who know well the life of traveling the streets and are blessed with more than just their musical talent I'm sure, but I know I often get stuck listening to this and all their songs.

-Everything you go to work for each day, so do the homeless. The needs we all have still must be met.
+shit, shower and shave
+hunger and thirst
+safe shelter permitted by law
+protection (sexual and to watch your back)
+clothing (Dirty Kids don't like me. I like to be me and that doesn't require smells nor dress comparable to what I imagine the middle ages smelled and looked like during the last plague)
+a place to call home
-comment to add to this list

Now that is the short version of that list and please keep in mind I acknowledge that some choose their location. More than once in my life I said fuck it I'm out you guys are too fucking crazy. That means I can attest to the difficult road it is when your decision is made that its necessary for survival to find a home. Many times over in fact.

This time on the road I got sick. I easily tripled my consumption of methamphetamines (it was already a lot but now sober) just to have the energy to barely claw my way back to Colorado, and that only happened because I have a family that heard my cries/pleas for help. Yes, I literally cried and pleaded.

These experiences for me are self torture and a test of my will to survive I suppose. If your into psychology get in touch please. That's me. That's one fucking experience of all the homeless people in the universe. Others aren't there because they choose to be. Others lost everything. You need to read that twice. OTHERS LOST EVERYTHING. Including their families, sanity, will to live, clothes, mansions, cats, cars, dogs, gold fish. Lost their families should stand out the most. Why they are there shouldn't actually matter. It is only the fact they are that should be concerning. I'm not saying it's likely but it could be you some day.

On that note, before I forget and ear muffs (eye muffs?) should be applied before reading this next paragraph but I have to get it off my chest.

This is going to feel awesome. To each and every single fucking one of you cock sucker pieces of shit that thinks your above this shit you can email me at [email protected] and give me a place to meet and I'll personally be there along with an army of really pissed off people that have more heart than you'll ever fucking dream of dick head. I'll bring bikers, thugs, hippies, punks, dirty kids and just straight crazy mother fuckers man woman and in between to convince you otherwise. Why? Because I for one am sick of people being shitty to each other and apparently your not. Yep, awesome.

Back to the point the homeless, too, go through the motions of society. But everything they work for takes longer to make happen if at all. No car, no shower and no storage alone makes each day quite challenging if you want to go ask for job applications (no computer or wifi) smelling like a normal human in clean clothes. Not to mention a phone to get calls on informing you of an interview usually lasts a week if your lucky.

There lies hope if you read this. In you. We all make choices. From young to old we never reach perfection. Smile at those who wonder the streets. Toss some change or hand a Subway card with a free sandwich to your local bums not expecting it when your kids are in tow. Look for organizations like my friend's @sharingsociety here on steemit. That same friend's link here to my sketch of 2 Cent Stamp left forever unfinished.

P. S. I was later approved to use this and other YouTube videos of RYG by a member of Rail Yard Ghosts. So thanks amigos for that. Getting there was to be as expected and a familiar dance for anyone who knows the streets and the value in the few things you can own while on them. I smile because it only further solidifies my point here. For their sake and mine I never thought I'd say this, but thank God for the interwebs.

Yes, finish that comic series!

I've already got a square canvas in the shade of a stamp. It'll be to motivate me to finish it.
