Another Day in the Countryside

in #homesteading4 years ago (edited)

I've been really enjoying countryside life lately, more than usual. I don't really miss going to the city at all these days. I guess that's also the reason why I share a little bit more of our animals and what's been going on and when the garden work takes on its full speed, I'll share all about it as well.

Living in the house full of people can be intense sometimes. As someone who really appreciates silence, it can be challenging finding it inside so I often find myself in the garden or with chicken and cats, just to have that peace, lol. I wish we had more animals so I could take care of them as I find that very calming and therapeutic. But until that happens, I guess I can take care of the veggies and fruits when the season starts since our garden is quite big. :)

Unusual egg

Even though we had chickens since I can remember, I don't think I've ever seen an egg like this. The shell is hard as the normal egg but it didn't have a yolk inside. I placed it next to the normal eggs and took some pictures to share here.

Friends

When I went to feed the chickens this morning, cats started to show up and joined the feast! :) One cat that I see around often was not there but these three managed to get their breakfast. I still try to approach and pet them, but they are not letting me, lol. Anyways, I am planning to make a little feeding spot for the cats and leave them food there, I'll probably get some cat food too hoping it won't attract more cats because I think four of them is enough. :) And I believe one of them will have kittens so there's that... :D

Edit: I forgot to point out again that the food animals are eating on these photos is just leftover bread mixed with luke warm water. We give this to chickens sometimes and they love it! Cats too. And this DIY wood feeder is for that purpose only, we have another feeder with proper chicken food mixed with some grounded corn.

Pre-planting peppers

Today I helped my dad pre-plant some peppers. He got these trays so we can keep them in our green house and pre-plants some veggies to keep them safe from frost until we can transfer them to the garden land. We planted a pepper called 'Elephant's Ear' and we also got some seeds from another similar pepper but I don't know how it's called. It is also red and sweet but longer and thinner - we never planted this one before so we'll see how it goes. I'll follow the progress and post about it in the future.

We've found an egg like that, before. I think it is what they call a fairy egg. There are some pretty interesting superstitions about them!

Oh, that is so interesting! Thanks for sharing the information.
I like the idea of a fairy egg, haha.

Your little helper is adorable! :)

That just looks like an idyllic life, I'm really looking forwards to getting back to growing my own food again!

It's really a blessing.
I hope you'll be able to get back to it soon!

Hi @nikolina. Didn't realize you lived in the country. Wow, an oval shaped egg. Never seen that before. I hope your garden of peppers does well. My mom used to have a garden full of cabbage, peppers, tomatoes, string beans. I loved eating he tomatoes straight from the vine.

I loved eating he tomatoes straight from the vine.

My nephew does that! :)

I hope your garden of peppers does well.

Thank you! We also have a lot more veggies but it's still too early to start planting them.

Thanks for stopping by, have a lovely day!

Thank you, Qurator team! :)

Gardens are wonderful, its great eating your own food when harvest time comes. I'm allergic to cats, so I stay away from them. I also like quiet, and being by myself. Not everyone enjoys this, but I do as well. Bear Hugs my dear friend!! 💖

Ooh, I don't think I knew you were allergic to cats.

its great eating your own food when harvest time comes.

100% - there's nothing better than freshly picked veggies and fruits :)

Thank you for stopping by Papa Bear, have a wonderful day on Paradise! :))

Awww, cats and chickens sharing food like friends! That's cute! If only humans do the same without killing each other this world would be perfect! hehehe

I agree! Sometimes chickens poke cat's tales but they usually don't fight and sometimes cats even cuddle with chickens even though they don't want to cuddle with me, haha.

That's a really weird egg, was it laid by the same batch of chickens who laid normal eggs? And I never knew that cats eat the same food as chicken...

Lol, I forgot to point it out again, as I forgot in the last post I made about this topic, sometimes we give chickens leftover bread mixed with some luke warm water and both, chickens and cats love it.

Yes, the egg was by the same chickens, we have 12 of them and one rooster. :)
