User experience is everything. Kind of like the humble sauce bottle - the old glass design where you need to bang on the bottom to get the last sauce out, or the new plastic design where the bottle stands on the cap and make it simple to get all of the sauce out. They serve the same purpose, but one has had the user in mind during creation.

A good website will do the same - immerse the user in an experience that makes them want to return time and time again.
