I have always half jokingly bragged that if napping were an Olympic event, I'd win the Gold medal. I can nap anytime, anywhere. I can nap after just waking up from a nap. In fact I just woke up from a nap right before writing this (and I'm not even kidding).
Napping has always been one of my favorite pastimes. Back in the day when I was young, fun and would hang out at clubs until 3:00 in the morning four nights a week, I always took a "disco nap" to prepare for the nights' activities. Oh for those Gen Zers out there, back in my day we took Disco naps and did not then go and post about it on TikTok... because that did not exist... and neither did the Internet yet. I still remember having to look in the classified ads of an actual paper magazine called "The Illinois Entertainer" or a paper called "The Chicago Reader" in order to find a secret password that would get us into our favorite club for free if we made it there before midnight. This practice was made more challenging for my affinity to not wake from my Disco nap until 6 minutes before my friend was scheduled to arrive to pick me up. But I digress.
Back to napping. My family is so jealous of my ability to curl up anywhere in the house for a quick snooze. I'm usually out in less than a minute and wake up feeling great. But I now think I have been overestimating my talent. For the first time ever, I doubt that I can overcome an obstacle to napping. What could this be you might ask... EXTREME NAPPING.
I just saw the craziest thing online. Apparently there is a place in Mangshan National Forest Park in Chenzhou China that people pay to have the pleasure of sleeping on the edge of a 325 foot cliff but nothing underneath them but the actual abyss to rival the figurative one I like to fall into throughout the day.
Ummmmmmm no thank you! I thought I was so cool and such a great napper, but if you tell me I need to put on a safety harness before napping, you can "F" right off. I can't imagine standing on that thing let along getting comfortable enough to sleep. Just looking at the pictures makes me never want to sleep again... and I freaking love sleeping!
For those of you who are brave enough to lay there and slow your thoughts and heartrate enough to sleep, I have nothing but mad respect for you. From now on, before I ever brag about my ability to sleep, I will be sure to ask, "wait, are you one of those nuts who has slept over a 325 abyss?" If they say yes, I will tip my nightcap to them and wish them well in their endeavors.
Would any of you actually try this?
I asked J (who could also sleep for his country) and he reckoned as long as it wasn't windy or wet he probably could XD
not sure if that would hold true if he was actually there XD
I think I might be able to sit there and enjoy the view (with the safety harness on, I am so not that brave) but definitely not sleep D:
but apparently I just don't like sleeping, there's two places I can sleep relatively easily and everywhere else is a struggle
I’m the opposite and have never been much of a napper until recently when I’ve taken to having a Power Nap at lunchtime. I don’t need more 5 to 10mins max then I’m set for the rest of the day.
I’ve recently bought a foldable Japanese style mattress that I can store in my office so that I can even nap at work now. It really helps to beat the post-lunch slump that a lot people get.
However, one place I can never sleep is on a flight. As soon as I close my eyes at 30,000 ft I get the sensation of falling so I’m guessing that cliff edge isn’t going to provide a nice night’s sleep for me. If anything it looks like a form of torture at a high security prison!
At least the strap you in! My wife usually takes a nap on the weekends. Occasionally I do too, but usually that time is when I watch the scifi shows that she doesn't like! I have a hammock and about four feet off the ground is probably the most I am comfortable with!
Definitely not, that's not a comfortable or safe place for me 😝😂. I think it would achieve the opposite, my heart rate would accelerate and the state of Paranoia will invade my body.
I need more naps in my life, being a mom is having one eye open and one eye closed always, my raccoon dark circles under my eyes confirm it 🦝😂.
Personally, I need safety and comfort to be able to sleep, so the idea of sleeping there really scares me a lot 😄
