The record is intact. United remain the team to have won the Premier League title with the most matches to spare in a season. They had done so at the end of the 2000/01 season and had five games to spare. City, who got relegated from the Premier League in that season, would have won it with six games to spare and it looked like they were going to do so emphatically, leading 2-0 in the first half. They did waste away a lot of chances and should have scored at least five easy goals in the first half but what seemed to be more extraordinary was how easily the United defence was being broken. The second half, though was a game between two sides very different from the ones that played in the first. Paul Pogba scored two goals between the 53rd and 56th minute to get United back on level terms and Chris Smalling scored from an Alexis Sanchez free kick to put United ahead. There were a lot of flare ups between the players after that and United held on to pull off an incredible win.
