Common drugs may alter gut bacteria and increase health risks

in #informationwar5 years ago

A new study has found that many common drugs — including those that treat diabetes, digestive problems, bacterial infections, and even depression — could actually predispose people to certain types of infection by affecting the balance of their gut microbiome.

The researchers compared the results of people who took prescription drugs with those of people who did not. They also looked at the effects of individual medications versus combinations of drugs.

They found that 18 common drug categories have an important impact on the bacterial composition of the gut microbiome, which could lead to undesired consequences for health. Such consequences could include intestinal infections, obesity, and various conditions linked to gut health.

Good to see some science pointing out the problems with pharmaceutical meds. I've know of a long time that if you put someone on anti-depressants they're going to gain a bunch of weight soon after being on those meds. So I'm glad studies are pointing out that these drugs can change your gut bacteria and give you even more health problems than you had before. Hmm, makes me wonder even more if that's the main goal of Big Pharma to just get people sicker and sicker so they have to buy more drugs from them for all the side effects.

Also, a class of antidepressants called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors was associated with increased levels of Eubacterium ramulus — another potentially harmful bacterium — in people with IBS.

I still feel like these articles always skirt the main problems of these drugs. That is that a lot or probably all of them have toxic chemicals used as fillers or part of the manufacturing process

Scientists Warn 'Inactive' Ingredients in Drugs Are Not as Harmless as You'd Think

The vast majority of oral medications contain ingredients that could cause adverse reactions in patients, new research suggests.

The culprits are so-called "inactive" ingredients: hundreds of thousands of different additives that help make up drugs but are not the medicine's main functional component.

These fillers might be considered safe for people but they could be deadly to good gut bacteria which in turn could lead to serious health problems down the road.

As for me I'm going to stay away from all types of Big Pharma meds. If I absolutely need to take them it will be short term and I'll do my best to build up the good gut bacteria after I'm done taking them. People really need to be more aware of the long term side effects from taking these drugs because your quality of life will decline after being on meds for a while. I think there's plenty of evidence out there that proves that to be the case but doctors still push this garbage on us and that's why people need to do their own homework and be informed about their own health issues.
