good bye instagram

in #instagram2 years ago

i deleted my instagram

i dont see a need for it. i dont see how it benefited me and pushed me closer to my goals.

i asked myself "why do i have this account on this app, what does it do?

i post photos of what im doing. does that benefit me or anyone else? for me, i dont think it really helps me, but the time lost is definitely harmful.

facebook is great for networking, especially locally. you can build groups and communities. facebook has its problems, especially in terms of brain-drain, ie knowledgeable people leaving that platform but if i was to compare facebook to instagram in terms of utility, facebook would win.

reddit is great is also great for their wide range of communities, tech support, etc. reddit has acquired some Facebook refugees, but reddit has a ugly side, a majority of that platform is very toxic due to the userbase, tainting the perception of the platform for most people.

reddit has some utility, it has gained users in recent times from Facebook as mentioned, but its utility is questionability at times.

if i ask myself what my priorities are, spending more time on social media is something very far down the list of things i want to dedicate time and energy to.

the logical thing to do is to reduce what is in my feed on all platforms i do use, reduce how many groups and communities im a part of, and i should delete accounts for platforms that have no utility.

good bye instagram, in the past 8 months that i didnt even have the app installed, i really havent noticed your absence.

All I get are fake accounts trying to add me. So many friends have had their photos cloned and scammers are using accts with their faces. I recently set my acct to private.
