This simple trick will help you find out if people you meet online are actually legit. Lets say you are using tinder or steemit or what ever, you are single and someone catches your interest, maybe they have a "really really hot selfie" as a profile picture...
But how can you find out if they're for real?
Thats me in the picture I promise... π
To check if Im a "creepy lier" or not, take this picture above, either by downloading it or just copy the URL, and go to a site called https://tineye.com
Search with tineye.com...
And now you can see my so called "profile picture" show up all over the place in a whole bunch of "stock image" websites, and other commercial websites, obviously it's not me, and you have been played...π€‘
This is a very useful tool for artists and photographers who want to check if someone is stealing their images, (by the way the pictures above and below are from https://pixabay.com and its copyright free, thanks pixabay)...
I know google have a similar function and I hear the Russian "facebookish-online-community" https://vk.com had some similar search function but based on "facial recognition" and apparently there was a great scandal surrounding that because people would search "screenshots" of people from Russian adult-movies and then find their private vk.com profiles...
πππ
Im not in the dating game right now,
but if you are this could be a useful tool, right???
Or maybe you already know about this site,
or maybe there is something new and "better"???
I just saw this pay-site called https://socialcatfish.com/ they claim that they can search facebook's databases and use facial recognition to find out contact information, where people live and such... π±
Is there anyone else who thinks this is a bit creepy?
Edit-
I mean someone could potentially just snap a photo of you with their smartphone in an airport or a coffeeshop and then run it through this "https://socialcatfish.com system" and potentially find out everything about you? When I write and read stuff like this, I just want to go back in time to the 90ties... Listen to grunge and go to underground rave-parties without facebook invites and "smartphone zombies" everywhere...
Please tell me what you think??? Useful or not???
Peace, Happiness, Love & Abundance to all steemians!
And by the way @friendly-fenix don't judge,
if you have been a porn star, thats great for you!

woosh
Facial recognition is a bit of a double-edged sword. It's useful for so many things that are good, e.g. detecting fraudsters/catfishers/users with malicious intent, and yet it's also creepy. For example, did you know casinos often utilise facial recognition via their CCTV to analyse player's habits and figure out ways of wrenching more money out of people?
We live in a data age. In many ways that's great, but in others, well, I hope you don't put too much value on yourself. Your data self could be worth as little as $150.
Yeah, I know a little about casino security...
And security cameras and such, don't want to post too many paranoid articles about such things here though...
My data self? Please do explain what do you mean @ictman1076?
And thanks for your input it's appreciated!

Your "data self" is a phrase that I stole from an advert - it's basically you, but represented by data. Your name, details, interests, personality traits, and more, stored in a database for easy searching and targeting.
I suppose a better name for it is the Database of You.
Yeah, my data is basically worthless, completely insignificant,
nothing interesting here, move along,
these are not the droids you're looking for... π

I used http://www.tineye.com the first time to understand the meaning of some symbols or something graphic-design related, Im sorry about the "clickbaity title". But I thought the info could be useful.

sir friendly-fenix! man, this is some creepy stuff. They make it way to easy to find out everything about someone, too easy for criminals or stalkers or just creepy people to use!
But this is some very good information to have so I declare it a great post!
Yeah, you are right about that, but I don't think it's just that easy yet. But it might be in the future, people should keep this in mind when using social media, man I feel a bit like a fear fearmonger. Just a bit worried about the future of mankind thats all...

howdy again friendly-fenix! You mean you sound like a Conspiracy Theorist? lol. No you sound wise. Otherwise people are opening themselves up to identity thieves or worse, so people need to start being very careful.
Yeah, you are right I didn't even think about that, just thought the whole idea/concept was going to far...
