Rest in peace, John Perry Barlow, who helped define written software code as free speech guaranteed by the United States First Amendment (which is why bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies constitute free speech in the U.S. ).
Barlow founded the Electronic Frontier Foundation and the Freedom of the Press Foundation, the latter now headed by privacy advocate and NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden (the site offers digital security advice for journalists and average citizens including recommended tools. )
This is a good time to keep in mind that the current U.S. administration is repealing internet privacy laws and extending surveillance.
See John Barlow's obituary in the New York Times.
