My First Ever Post! 😊

in #introduceyourself7 years ago (edited)

Hello Steemit! My name is Aisling, I’m 27, and I live in Dublin, Ireland. My interests include cuddling dogs, looking at pictures of dogs, wishing I had a dog (not possible right now because my landlord would hit the roof and my flat is far too small), cuddling cats, looking at pictures of cats, wishing I had a cat … I think my point has been made. 😁 I love animals.
I was introduced to Steemit by my lovely girlfriend, @charlottefawsitt. Having saved the incredibly long password that was assigned to me – prefixed by the statement: ‘JEEZUS! State of this password’ – and made a decision on what I want to say, I am ready to begin. So, in no particular order, here are some of my interests and passions. I’m hoping to expand on them in future posts and have conversations with people who share some of those interests.

Being artsy

I believe that the stories we tell to ourselves reveal who we are, and for this reason, I have a great belief in the power of dynamic, creative storytelling that is an inherent component of theatre and the performing arts in general. I did Drama and Theatre Studies in college and I write for the stage whenever I can. My most recent production was a play called Don’t Call it That with Born to Burn Productions. It addressed the aftermath of a young woman’s experience of sexual assault and her reluctance to use the word ‘rape’ to describe it.
If I were to pick just one recent production I acted in that affected me the most, I would say it was Vessel, produced by Quintessence Theatre Company. Vessel dealt with the lack of abortion access in Ireland and the ongoing controversy around the Eighth Amendment of our Constitution.
I am a writer with the environmental news and advocacy site, One Green Planet, based in New York City. I have written for them since late 2013, having gotten to know the site during a visit to New York that summer. I am also the co-editor of a health and holistic lifestyle magazine here in Dublin called Positive Life. I guess my interest in journalism is an extension of my reason for being interested in theatre and the arts: it springs from a desire to examine the world and the beliefs that shape it.

Perpetuating the good ol’ Queer Agenda™

The above picture portrays me being hetero AF … or not. 😁 In all seriousness, as a bisexual person, I have known the pressure of feeling as though the lack of ability to ‘pick a side’ represents some kind of moral failure on your part. I have known what it is to be afraid that you will never quite be accepted or seen as trustworthy by either gay or straight people. I knew I was bi at the age of fourteen, but I suppressed that knowledge for many years before finally coming out to my friends and family as a lesbian in 2011. At the time, I felt that I really should just ‘pick a side’ and be done with it. However, a few months after telling everyone that I was gay as gay could be, I developed feelings for a guy. This ultimately led me to accept, once and for all, that I was bisexual – though the hilarious thing is that nothing ever happened with that guy (primarily because I used to handle all of my crushes in those days by being too terrified to speak to the person, glance in their direction, or acknowledge their general existence). Nevertheless, these days, I am a proud perpetuator of The Queer Agenda™. Personally, I would define that agenda as a desire to ensure that every child can grow up knowing that they will be accepted and loved, regardless of what their gender or sexual orientation may be.

Listening to painfully cheesy, embarrassing pop music

My enthusiasm for terrible pop music is a source of endless embarrassment to @charlottefawsitt and anyone else in my life whose musical taste is cooler than mine (which would cover just about everyone, given that my musical taste is desperately, tragically uncool). I consider myself fortunate to have grown up during the golden era of boy bands, upbeat pop music, and all-round cheese: the Nineties. My everyday life largely consists of sitting at my desk typing, so whenever I decide to take a break, few things help me to relax more effectively than prancing around my apartment, warbling As Long As You Love Me or Bop Bop Baby at a volume just low enough to avoid traumatising my neighbours. I am a great believer in doing things whole-heartedly – it’s a case of go big or go home – so my renditions of these timeless classics always include funny voices, dramatic gestures, and over-the-top displays of emotion. I regret nothing and apologise for nothing. 😇

Being a gym bunny

I love my fitness routine, but always stay well away from the area that I call Testosterone City. Testosterone City is basically the weight-lifting section of the gym, filled with men throwing heavy objects around, being muscular, and generally radiating such a strong air of Masculinity-Infused Manly Manliness that I immediately get scared and back away. Women can occasionally be seen there too, to be fair, but it isn’t my thing! I prefer to stick to half an hour of strong cardiovascular work, followed by a lovely, relaxing swim in the pool.

And finally…

Here is a picture of me with my beloved family dog, Buddy. 😊 I once had the opportunity to write about him and his many quirks for One Green Planet. It was his third birthday on January 26th, so for my next post, I may write about his annual birthday parties, and why – even though people don’t usually make a big fuss out of celebrating their animals’ birthdays – we intend to keep this tradition going for the rest of his days!

Great intro Aisling :) Resteemed it via @welcoming, my page for showcasing promising newcomers! Congratulations :)

Wow, thank you for that, welcoming. 😊

Would be great if you and @charlottefawsitt would come to the Dublin meetup at the end of the month. We usually head to the Duke for a few jars around 6.30- 7pm.

I would be up for that! 😊

Definitely! It would be great to learn more about Steemit from more experienced people.

Welcome to steemit....

Beautiful introduction very well written !!! Being artsy is very important to me as well ^^ hope you enjoy the community and get many rewards ! Followed and resteemed !

Thank you, Erika. It was great to meet you that day I popped into IADT with Charly and worked away in there, hoping that nobody would do this. 😉

Funny intro :D

Welcome along! :)

Thank you very much. I can see that you have some wonderful photography posts on your page!

Great intro. Welcome to Steemit.

Thanks, eroche! I'm looking forward to getting involved in the community.

Congrats on getting your first post up my love! 😊 ❤️

Welcome to Steemit!!

Welcome Aisling!

Thank you, condra. 😊 I'm excited to be getting started!

Howya Ailsing? Welcome to Steemit!

PS: I’m so sorry to have grown up with boy bands music but, hey, you can’t have it all.

We'll have to agree to disagree on the boyband music issue, Leo. 😛 Thanks for the welcome!

@beanz what r ye laughin at? 😂
@aislingcroning ah gwan, boybands... seriously? (Says the one who had a curtain haircut back in the 90s) 😅😅

Boybands forever!
Sorry, not sorry...

Welcome fellow dog lover @aislingcronin - I have to say Dublin is on my list of favourite cities in the world, I have had some cracking nights (not that I can remember many of them) on the Guinness and always make a point of staying over for a couple of nights before visiting family down in Co Wexford!! I look forward to your dog party post, I will read it to my beloved boxer Roxy :) céad míle fáilte

Hi @aislkngcronin! Welcome to Steemit! I’m glad you and your girlfriend have found your way here.

I came across your intro thanks to my wife @introspector and am glad. It’s evident you are a writer - you have such an inviting written voice 🙂

To piggy back off my wife’s comment:

  1. Dogs ARE FAMILY and get birthdays like the two-legged folks. We are a dogless family and this fact is painful for my wife lol. I’m actually allergic but we will figure something out 😉
  2. I have been to Dublin TWICE thanks to a brief time of studying in Manchester, UK and 🤩✨Ryanair✨🤩 Gosh I miss that awful, fiscally responsible, I humane airline ❤️ Cliffs of Moher and the old University Library are my favorites.
  3. If you have not already, join Discord to connect with Steemit “families” off the platform. This is an LGBT group specifically, but I’m sure there are groups for all your niche interests!: https://discord.gg/WQ2s8j
  4. BEWARE OF SPAMMERS. These are usually your “great post” , “nice, upvote and follow me” brief one liner folks. Not always! But definitely be wary and do not waste your effort or upvotes on these people! If you aren’t sure, go to their profile as this gives you the option to see their comments. You can quickly tell if their spam. Like @fadhluns.kom as a great example here.
    I’ll be following 🤗

You could always get a bichon frise. As far as i know they are hypo allergenic! 😊

Dogs really are family! I've written my second post just now, and it is basically a big rant about how much I love Buddy. 😂 Here is the link, if you would like to read it: https://steemit.com/dog/@aislingcronin/in-which-i-rant-about-my-dog-buddy-and-how-great-he-is
Thank you very much for your kind words. I will definitely look into Discord – @charlottefawsitt has told me all about it – and I'll stay away from the spammers too, don't worry. I look forward to interacting with your posts in future!

Welcome to Steemit!
You have the coolest name in the world. I fell in love with the name when I heard 'Aisling' by Shane MacGowan:)
Happy Friday!

I have terrible taste in music – as discussed in my post 😉 – so I have never heard of that song, but I must look it up! Thank you.

Hell yeah Buddy...Happy Birthday boy. You get an Upvote, follow, and friendly welcome from me with that awesome heartfelt post. You made me laugh out loud with your passion for terrible pop music. You sadistic creature. Make it stop...nooo!

Please post pics from Buddy's big day. I had a big birthday/house warming for my dog Bentley. We had over 15 large dogs visit and yes...dog cake was served and they went fucking berserk. I'm still laughing.

On the serious side. Glad to hear you found writing as a way to articulate your feelings and process the abuse. I created a world within songs where no one could touch me. It led to an amazing career and for awhile I would entertain people in concert parking lots with my lip syncs operas. I'm creating an outlet here for it that will be entertaining.

Hope to see more of you and Buddy soon! Rock it Pop Devil:0

Hello and welcome, Great to see some new Irish faces. Wishing you success

I have to say that every time I hear or read the word "ammonite," all I can think about is the Pokémon with a similar name. 😉 Love Omanyte! Haha. I looked at your page, and you have some really fascinating posts. I love your sand sculptures.

Based on this post i wanna make room to adopt ye!!! I will message you later.

Wow, @limabeing, thank you for that! Only if you have time though. No pressure 😊

Terrible pop music is wonderful! Thank you for the welcome. I followed you.

Hi Aishling. :). Not to be picky but shouldn't your dog be only getting a party every 7 years! ;)

Ah no, we have to give him a party every year. 😉 He doesn't object to them, I can tell you that much!

Of course he doesn't object! He's probably thinking "I have them feckers hoodwinked, they've given me 6 parties and it's not my birthday till next year! OH! Squirrel!" ;)

Great intro @aislingcronin, welcome to steemit :D

Thank you, Colm. 🙂

Jeez! Aisling you really have a sh!t taste in music! Welcome to the club :).

My musical taste is truly awful, @anmeitheal. 😂😂 It breaks poor @charlottefawsitt's heart.

Welcome friend. Hope you like it here.

Welcome to Steemit. I also studied Theater in school along with music and creative writing. Looking forward to reading more of your content. Following.

Thank you! I've followed you as well. I see from your introduction post that you're a vegan who is interested in writing more about plant-based food and living. I'm vegan too! 😊

Thanks and yes, I'm very into writing both about plant-based and fiction too. I hope you enjoy it.

Incredible introduction! Welcome! I’m excited you’re here. I can see that you will do really well on this platform and bring content that will enrich the steemit community. It’s great to see the LGBT community continue to grow as more and more minnows like yourself join the platform. My wife @betterbeing as well as @sykochica, @steempunk-penny and others have been working on some amazing initiatives to make sure the LGBT+ voices are heard, respected and appreciated here on steemit. I have no doubt you will contribute greatly to this cause and I look forward to following your content.

On another note, I think we have a lot in common. I am a bi-sexual who chose to be lesbian but lived most of my life as a heterosexual so I completely relate to the feeling of not knowing where you fit or how to identify yourself. Your sentiments about dogs resounds with me deeply as I ADORE dogs but currently am not able to have one for similar reasons as yourself (it also doesn’t help that my wife is allergic). Being a 90’s kid myself, you have inspired me to be unashamed of my own taste in the cheesiest of cheesy pop music.

I could go on but I fear I may run out of bandwidth so I will finish by saying once again 🌈WELCOME ✨ I look forward to hearing more about who you are and what you have to share with us 😊

P.S. I visited Dublin once and loved it! It will definitely not be my last Ireland adventure.

Hi introspector! Thank you for your thoughtful response and information on how Steemit's LGBT+ contingent is growing. I would certainly love to participate and help with that growth in any way I can as I gain more power on the site – my introduction seems to have given me a good start, so I'm crossing my fingers that the momentum can be maintained in my future posts. I didn't know about the bandwidth issue, so I must look into that!
Always be proud of your love for cheesy music and don't let anyone shame you for it – that's what I say! 😉
Your content definitely interests me. I've just started following you now and I look forward to interacting with you in future. 🙂

i want to offer you a warm welcome to this revolutionary platform called steemit. i love to found you here. i'm also animals lover i love @cats, i found that they are cute. happy to know about you. i personally think that its better to use steemit, just say bye to all other time killing social medias. i just want to say stick to your hobbies on steemit it will help you to grow faster, and post good content, your @originalworks pay you high, thanks
