“So a pastor walked into a puff of STEEM one day” Who is this @GenXRev?

in #introduceyourself6 years ago (edited)

Hello folks!

Thanks for clicking in. My name is Eric and I’m a whopping 4 day old "Steemer"... um "Steemian"... uhmmm "Steemitian?" What the heck are we called around here anyway?
2016-12-20 12.43.03-1.jpg
The brief story is I’m a husband, father, pastor, boardgame geeker, hack amateur musician, craft cider brewer, and contemplative prayer practitioner among other things. The longer story has a few more twists, so pull up your beverage of choice and let me share a bit of this particular pilgrim’s journey...

page-break.jpg

I found my way to Steemit I suspect similarly to many... as I was wondering around "crypto currency land," I came upon some video by @jerrybanfield and then another... and then another... and then a couple by @joeparys... and well you know how it goes. I’ve only been paying any attention to crypto’s in any way since maybe October of this past year... you know back when Bitcoin was at $8k. I started figuring out how to use a couple of my computers to do some mining (still do) and have actually just enjoyed the heck out of thinking and interacting with the crypto sphere ever since. I find Steemit a fascinating usecase and actually find myself drawn to it in ways no other crypto coin / effort has yet to do. So I’m actually pretty excited to be here with you all.

As for the things that make me... well... me. My wife is an amazing woman. My kiddo is midway through her freshman year and is that unique combination of “drive me insane” and the “pride of my life.” I am a pastor in the Seattle, Washington area of the US. It rains here a lot and by that I do mean a lot! My faith is something that shapes how I hope to be in the world and in relationships with others... it’s just kind of who I am... I have a pretty enormous boardgame collection and will happily take people down that quirky rabbit hole with me any time they are willing.

powertothemeeple.jpg

As for instruments... I hack a bunch of things (bass, percussion, EWI) but of these my favorite is likely the EWI (Electronic Wind Instrument - think synthesizer saxophone)... it puts a grin on my face every time I can pick it up. But I do like to bang on things too (just last year built my own stumpf fiddle... it is amazing what one can build with pie tins, a shovel handle and cowbell but I digress)
stfiddle.jpg

How do I see myself plugging in here on Steemit? The answer to that question is actually why I’ve held off on my introduction for a bit until I had a few things up to show... I’ve always felt showing one’s work is more helpful than stating one’s intentions.

I write prayers... Now I might not forever do just this, but it is something that is so near to my heart and such a part of who I am that it seems one of the most intimate and precious things I can offer up to you to hopefully encourage others who are either engaged in a faith walk or are even just passingly curious and want to glimpse over the shoulder of someone who is trying to sort this whole faith-Jesus-life-love-pain thing out anyway.

So I write prayers... they are mine as I write them, but my real hope is that when you might read them they could become even for a passing moment yours as well. I can’t say they will... I just hope they might.

Because I live in the real world and tend to be a pretty salty guy, my prayers tend to be a bit earthy and sometimes salty... it’s how God works with me, but I know up front it’s not for everyone. That’s ok... everyone walks their own path ultimately... But before you rule out the possibility that we have nothing to say to one another, come, taste, sip and see... maybe we’ll find we have more to discuss than either of us could ever imagine.

The works I’ve posted up thus far are:
Life is boiling over...
Learning to be still...
Lightening load...
grace falls
On a grey commute morning...

page-break-13.jpg

I find lyrics and poetry and prayer to often dance with one another so my posts may at times weave in and out of these various means to express and create, but that too is perhaps more how I’m wired than anything else. Words almost inevitably fall short of the sentiments I’m trying to explore, but I will do my best for you because I think that is the only way I can serve you in my efforts.

Eventually other things I might offer up would be my reflections on the things I find interesting and curious about how human behavior, freedom, and even at times theology intertwine in this platform of Steemit we all now share together. These will be more periodic, but even after just 4 days there are already a couple things rattling around in this noggin that I’m eager to begin writing.

page-break-13.jpg

Beyond this though, I’m working hard at trying to be what I think is a good citizen of this community. I’m going out to meet you through your posts. I’ve already had the pleasure of experiencing some pretty talented poets and authors, pray-ers and analysts in a whole variety of interests and fields. I’m using my very small upvote to attempt to express my thanks for the work I see in others or as a thanks to those who have chosen to encourage my work.

The great irony of all this is that here I am a natural born introvert and contemplative finding such joy in seeking you all out and trying to break the ice... it is NOT my native land or habit so it makes me smile when I pause to think of it.

IMG_0889.JPG

But here’s the thing... I have no right to even hope for your attention towards the works I’m trying to place in front of you, if I’m not willing to go there myself. So over the days and weeks and years ahead, as I stumble into your blog (and yes right now it does feel like “stumbling around”) I will use my upvote as I can (...always running low on Steem power) I will seek to leave you a comment or ask a question... it will for now be down in the “cheap seat” section near the bottom, but hopefully you will see it as my humble attempt to give back some kind of value to you as well.
page-break-13.jpg

And maybe that’s a good place to close this introduction. What I find in Steemit is the possibility that we each acting in ways that are creative, encouraging, and yes rewarding together build an arguable case that when freedom interacts with altruism (using ourselves to raise up others) there is something great that can be created. Will we actually do so? Well that’s what we’re all here to explore isn’t it.

So thanks for hearing me out. I hope I’ve not wasted your time. I welcome your decision to follow me should you decide to do so. I hope something I’ve here shared gives you some reason to even consider it.

Your upvotes would be a gracious gift (and will go to helping in that whole “always running low on Steem Power” thing) but I know that these too are precious to us all.

To all of you I say “Peace be with you.” And I do look forward to interacting with you in the days ahead.

~@genxrev

Normally I’d just welcome your resteem, but this one time may I ask for it?

For those who are able, thank you for your upvote. Please feel free to follow me… thanks again.

Brother Eric,

Your visit to my blog today was a delightful surprise.

Thanks for your kind words there. Welcome to Steemit. I'm pleased to make your acquaintance here, and hope to get to know you better.

Thanks for sharing your personal prayers/psalms with us. I've upvoted some.

If you have a chance to explore my blog some, you'll find that I'm an outspoken believer in Jesus. He permeates my life, no matter what I'm writing about.

Please stay in touch. ;)

😄😇😄

@creatr

The warmth that glows in the writing I've already seen carries through in your greeting here. I will absolutely come around to soak. I'll invite you to feel free to do the same as you are able. Well met and though we have only just done so... I feel you to indeed be friend.
In Christ, Eric aka @genxrev

OK, @genxrev,

I'm enjoying seeing your Reputation score climb, even as I watch... :D

I hope to make some introductions. Please get to know @globocop, @johnjgeddes, @dreemsteem, @lydon.sipe, @countrygirl... in no particular order.

Blessings!

Well then... Any brother of @creatr would also be a brother of mine.

(We have the same Dad. 😊)

Loved your introduction and will be happy to upvote and resteem. I have the same problem as you... I've spread my votes all around and it's worth little (monetarily) but big in love and respect and warmth! So you'll have that too!

Looking forward to reading some prayers, and excited to get to know you more!

Blessings,
@dreemsteem 😊

Hiya, So good to meet you! Met @creatr last night and now you today. Thank you too for your kinds words and affirmation. I too look forward to getting to know you better. I'd already had some interactions with @johngeddes and also just yesterday a bit with @lyndon.sipe too... the community here is really quite something and I feel really blessed to have been welcomed in.

Peace and look forward to talking more.
~Eric aka @genxrev

from me too!! Welcome Rev. Thanks for a great introduction. I wish above all things that you prosper and be in good health, even as your soul prospers. I've resteemed this intro and followed. (Deborah)

Thank you so much Deborah! I hope that you find these creations able to serve your soul well.

it really is an extraordinary community! i was away for a bit and just came back a little while ago - and the "welcome home" was sweet and warm! :) i think you'll find the same heart here (because you exude that heart!) there are ups and downs... and there are moments of real frustration! hahaha steemit is still a work in progress, and it really is what we make it! so brace yourself for those moments that make you wonder why you're even here... hahahaha if you're ready for them, you'll be able to persevere through them! :)

Just this morning I was thinking a great deal about just HOW warm the welcome has been... I mean I'm a complete stranger among you all and yet with a few brief comments in various places it's like a door was just opened for me and I'm ushered right to the dinner table to dine with you all. Feels odd but in the good way of odd. I can see that this is a group that truly is looking out for one another and it seems almost a contrast to many other gatherings of people I've been in. Like I said... it has been good and folks like yourself offering kind words, encouragement but also opening the door for the possibility of actual friendship to develop, it is kind of rewriting much of what I'd always thought about "social media" up until now.

yeah.... it's strange. i deactivated my facebook (nothing against facebook - just not really the platform for me..) about 3 weeks ago? it seems like other social media platforms don't really allow you to delve so deeply into another person's life. It's not like that for everyone here of course! Some like to keep it light and keep it moving. hahahaha But it's almost like you're in a room full of books. Some are magazines, some are novels, some are travel guides, some are journals... etc. You just find your section... and sit down :) With facebook (or any other "surface" platform) you don't REALLY get to see the person. You see a version of what they want you to see. But here - there are a lot of records just lying around... unlocked and open for people who care to read the pages. If you take the time to read them... you'll be rewarded with people who are genuinely interested in making connections. Sometimes you can read it in a post, sometimes in a poem, sometimes see it in their photography.... just a really special platform where you can make real connections if you're willing to sift a bit :)

Hey brother,

I noticed in another post of yours you had mentioned that you are on discord... if I wanted to lightly pester you about some questions I have after my first week here on Steemit... a) would you be open to letting me do so and b) if you are, is Discord the best method to do so? and if "yes then c) how would I find you there... I'm on Discord, but it is a fairly new thing to me so I would have to figure out how to make that connection. I don't want to thread jack, anywhere but have some questions for someone who has been around for a while. Let me know when you get a chance. Peace
@genxrev

a) More than open, positively delighted...
b) We can connect on Discord, and discuss other options.
c) On discord I am @creatr#0884

thank you so much... I've been wondering if there was any good way to bounce things off others in something more akin to "real time" - I'll look you up soon. It may be coming from someone named PreacherMan1971 (but honestly don't even know for absolute certainty what my Discord name is) - I'll find ya and thanks a bunch

Great! :D

Thanks for the introduction @creatr!! You are such a good friend.

More than welcome, my dear... ;)

Love your puns Pastor @genxrev... Welcome to Steemit. I'm only 5 days old. Just one day older than you!

Hope to connect and be able to exchange ideas to blow off steem :)

Blessings to you and family.

Mel @coachmelleow

Oh coach and you love my puns??? I saw what you did there with the blowing off of "Steem" :) One of the things I've REALLy been enjoying is the way Steemit has placed me in contact with folks from all over... noticed quite a few from South Africa already. Looking forward to striking up a relationship. Peace and blessings on your day. @genxrev

Welcome to Steemit. I think you will like it. There are plenty of people who love talking about cryptocurrencies, but lots of other interests too. Have fun

Thank you for the welcome! I’ve definitely been enjoying these last few days. What’s even more interesting is how in the discipline of crafting these works I’m trying to share, I’m even more deeply connecting with God as I’m trying to discern what to create next. So even more fun on top of the fun n crossing paths with folk like you. Thanks for reaching out. Peace

Reaching out to my dearest pastors this coming Sunday...highly 'esteemed' people.

Thanks for reaching out. Stopped by your blog and just want to encourage you. Peace

tnx greatly, your typre is rare!

Well my hope is that by encouraging folks and offering prayer as I can, maybe we will all emerge and over time the "rare" might be commonplace! It's my daily hope whether here or among the people I serve locally. And as I say - keep at growing, developing and creating! I'll be watching for you. Take care.

Welcome to Steemit @genxrev, nice introduction. You'll really enjoy your stay here.

what a crazy pastor, i like him!

your Steemian (yes that noun will suffice) friend @dreemsteem re-steem this so here i am dropping you an inconsequential reply

Welcome to our beloved blockchain @genxrev (so you between 40-50 I presume and have reverential status to marry cats and dogs or something? cool)

Au contrer mon frere... there are no “inconsequential replies!” @dreemsteem has been a joy to get to know a bit so now I get to be pleased to look forward to getting to know you as well. Thanks for the word of welcome... as for reverential status to marry dogs and cats, they’d need to be able to say “I do”and that always seems to be the hangup :)

Look forward to more to come. Peace and thanks for saying hi
Eric

euphemism my good friar, well it seems you are attracting all the right kinds....with exception of yours truly here, be as it may, dj is surely a lost soul (in Steemian speak - aimlessly postless) wandering randomly in the blockchain in search of inconsequantialless and admirable contents to upvote in random and inorderly fashion....till then may you keep forwarding more to come promises to your anticipatory untargeted audience

spellos are intentionally convoluted for personal amusement....i feel sorry that you have to put up with such readers much less repliers, they are shamelessly confusing

Well wander on and vote randomly well. May your journeys bring many some kind of joy as it does hopefully for you too. Peace

Hey thanks for the kind welcome. At some point I may just - a little stumpf fiddle a little EWI, we'll just have to see how that might come together. hmmm (pauses to think of possibilities)

Hope to see you around. Blessings.
