When I taught middle school I asked students to call me by my first name but it was hard so some of them to pronounce so they started calling me MC.
I actually thought it was pretty cool. So I never asked them to stop. It's a big name but very few letters. These letters MC also remind me of my faith and why I came to Korea.
Yes, I live and teach in Korea. I'm pretty creative and always have lots of new ideas. And 99% of those creative ideas never get anywhere. Sometimes this confuses me but most of the time I'm alright with it.
Moving to Korea was one of the ideas that actually worked out. Getting married was another idea that worked out well. Through this other half I have been able to grow in understanding myself and others.
We have two boys who are the most lovely and inspirational gifts of God. I wrote about them a lot in other places and occasionally post pictures of them on Facebook or Instagram stories. I often share my ideas with the boys and they are my biggest fan. But if they don't like something they will tell me.
Earlier this year we visited India and I asked them about writing a story. I thought it would be impossible but during quarantine I wrote the story and drew some pictures for it on the computer. After it was finished I couldn't say it was a masterpiece but I learned how to publish a book.
If you use these search words: "Christian books kids koala" on Amazon you will find my book in first place. If you want to make a better book and beat me out of that search topic then be my guest. My kids love Koalas but I've had a hard time drawing them. I like Kimchee. I like the colors of kimchee. I wonder if Koala can be other colors like the care bears. They were not brown or gray. Could Koalas be purple?
You probably guessed it by now. This will not be a blog of my family or my teaching experiences but mostly a blog of my discoveries through mistakes while publishing. It will also be a sneak peak into new books. I am on the long term plan here. So far I will concentrate on Koala and Kimchee.
Somehow they are both "K" words. I don't know if that has anything to do with anything, but I like the characters I have. I want them to come alive in stories. I also like to draw pictures. My goal is not to become a famous writer but my goal is to create allegories and parables that open the modern heart to the world of discover, imagination, love and hope.
Of there is a lesson to be learned in everything but I don't think books have to shove the lesson in people's faces. If possible it should be stumbled upon and discovered. As a teacher and father and friend I would like to invite you on this path of discovery.
I'm not shy to ask you to follow this blog because I know I can't make it without your help. I need your advice and comments and interaction. I don't need a bot to pop up and say, "nice post" "click this link!" I need the community to support and sometimes tell me when I'm going off the deep end.
Every couple days I will post some work that I have been doing. It won't be shit posts because I'm interested in interaction. The posts will have content and together I'd like to hear what people have to say about drawing, writing and publishing.
I know people spam books on Amazon creating hundreds and hundreds of books with the same thing or with nothing, but why not create something that lasts. We only live once and so it's worth the time to do it right.
So where is my "stuff"?
Well you could go to Amazon and search "Christian Kids Books Koala" but I will make it easier. Here is my book read aloud on Youtube by 김치쌤.
What else can I say?
Follow along in the journey and share some tips on the way. If you like this first Koala book then let me know and take a minute to write a review:
