Introduction post - Palmtreetrading

Dear Steemit community,

A very warm welcome to Palmtreetrading!

We are two longtime friends with a passion for trading, economics and the financial markets in general. Because of the exciting era of crypto-currencies and the world-changing potential of the blockchain, it has been a logical step for us to support the Steemit movement and start sharing our experiences and knowledge on this great platform.

We have been trading partners for about 7 years, in which we both had our share of ups and downs. We have made costly mistakes, misunderstood information, took on bad trades, but swore to learn from those mistakes. By keeping persistent and focused we managed to conquer most of the typical trading errors, and built a solid and profitable trading mindset/experience over the past couple of years.

For those of you who are experienced traders, you probably know that trading can be a lonely business. By sharing our personal mistakes as well as general knowledge and ideas, we want to help other people become better traders while creating a place for questions, discussion and sharing experiences!

What's in the name? Palmtreetrading:

In our trading vision, a palm tree symbolizes a unique kind of strength and resilience. Just think about how a palm tree responds to a storm. Their flexibility with strong roots help them to resist hurricane-force winds. Resilience during tough times in trading, is about being flexible like a palm tree rather than unbending like an oak. Accepting rather than breaking.

Toughness and resilience, the ability to stand up to adversity and to bounce back from defeats, is a lesson we can learn from palm trees. Even more, this is exactly what we need to inherit into our trading mindset.

Like a palm tree grows stronger, we can too. It just takes dedication, practice and persistence. Know that you have the inner strength necessary to face any misfortune. Accept and respect the markets, get on with your trading strategy without looking back, and most of all, believe that what you are doing is the right thing to do. Trust your own proven and tested strategy. No matter what everybody else tries to tell you, it needs to be right for YOU!   As soon as you develop the ability to analyze the markets in your own way, and make decisions based on your personal insight and past experiences, you will start building your solid trading mentality and the results can’t be more rewarding.

The next time you look at a palm tree, try to feel your inner strength. You can thrive in the markets, even in tough and challenging times. Stand strong yet flexible and be resilient. Combine purpose with persistence, and most of all, believe in yourself!

Did we tell you that we are both Dutch, and living in the Caribbean?

We already told you that we are longtime friends. We both grew up in the same hometown in the southern part of the Netherlands, yet at this moment we are living on the Caribbean Island of Curaçao. Please let us introduce ourselves a bit more on a personal level:

Luuk:

I recently moved to the Caribbean Island Curacao with my girlfriend. We both quitted our jobs and sold our home, and are now seeking new life experiences and adventure on the other side of the world. We are enjoying every minute of it!

Arjan:

I love to travel and cover new grounds. A few years ago I got the opportunity to work on Curaçao, so I decided to move to the Caribbean. After some time I started my own company focused on European companies willing to expand into the Caribbean and South America.

We are sure that you will get to know us better by the content we are about to post on this channel, and we are looking forward to engage with the community!

To us, trading is about the freedom we experience while doing something challenging and rewarding. It continuously challenges us to sharpen our skills (both analytical and on an emotional level) which besides from trading itself, will always be of great value.

The fact that we have the ability to take the charts with us while catching a fresh breeze got us thinking that we should all cherish the era we are living in. We have the ability to gain a profit from the comfort of our homes, or even take our personal 'trade floor' with us wherever we would like go! You only need a laptop and an internet connection, so this could be life changing for a lot of people.

We are currently starting up this channel, but we are dedicated to provide a consistent flow of articles and feel free to comment or participate in an active discussion.

Most of all, we hope to inspire you along the way!

Great post guys, looking forward to future posts. Do you guys do algorithm trading at all? I'm curious how popular algo trading actually is cause I'm just an outsider looking in.

Hi Travis, thanks for your comment! We are mostly day trading and therefore taking on trades manually. Nevertheless we are trading with a group of good friends and have been working on an algorithm which is currently running stand-alone and capable of producing consistency in its gains. But especially in the crypto-market it takes a lot of constant tweaking and fine tuning due to the high volatility and unpredictable character of the market at the moment.

We will follow you as well, and are looking forward to having you here :). Most of all, feel free to ask us anything if you are searching for information or have questions regarding trading topics!

Sounds cool , I've been meaning to look into automated trading platforms for digital currencies, but I have just been overwhelmed the last few weeks. I first found out what Bitcoin was in late April through a colleague at work. It was not a good first experience at all! It did open my eyes to the digital currencies though. Since then I have started a little portfolio that I hope will profit in the long run. I am also at the very end of building my first Ethereum mine which has been a tremendous learning experience for me that I also hope to grow in the future. Please send me some info on the algorithm trading of crypto's. I've only been on Steemit for about 30 minutes and from what I've seen so far it's easy to get side tracked here.

Hi there! @jaialai32

We can imaging you had a rough start in trading bitcoin if you jumped in at the previous highs.

But then again we believe it's better to start with a loss than to start on a winning streak. Losing a bit of money at the start lets you learn way faster and protects you from taking excessive risks. Sure it hurts, we know all about it! But it makes you a better trader in the long run.

If you would like to start with algorithmic trading be sure you know your basics in technical trading. It sounds great to have a bot or algo make the trades for you but know that when your bot starts trading you have way less control over your investments.

One small error could cost you lots of money.
If you do want to learn more about this topic be sure to give us a follow, we will be making a more in-depth post about this topic soon.

There is lots of great information to be found online about this subject, just dont be hasty and start at the beginning. For us this means learning to trade manually on a technical basis.

Hope this helps a bit!

I've been doing alright trading, it just takes so much time. I've had a couple nights where I was waiting for a move to happen that never did and did not get to go to sleep. When I first got in I did not know anything about Bitcoin or that it even could be traded. Got into a scam called Gladiacoin (double your Bitcoin in 90 days.) that was going well and I was getting a couple hundred dollars a day sent to my wallet so we signed up for another scam called BitcoinsBrain (earn 7% a day) and man were we happy......for about 5 more days. Then within a week of each other both sites vanished and I lost about 2.5 BTC. I did follow you, best of luck. What is your opinion on XRP's price moving forward?

Welcome to Steemit! Hope you are enjoying your new home. I have never been to Curacao but my son @the-scuba-sherpa is planning a scuba diving trip there sometime soon. Do either of you dive?

Hi Eightyyroldself, thanks for dropping a comment :) We have a lot of different bays/beaches in Curaçao, with some fantastic dive spots. I have my Padi licence, but not I'm not really an active scuba diver (prefer snorkeling and free diving).. Nevertheless we could always give you some recommendations on dive-spots and I could get you in touch with the right people. Whenever @the-scuba-sherpa is coming to Curaçao, feel free to drop us a line! Ciao!

I have heard that the diving is awesome. I will sure take you up on the offer of advice. Thanks so much. Hope you have a great experience on Steemit.

I just discovered this post today. I was born and raised on Curaçao but lived in the Netherlands and now in the USA. I may move back in the future so I started to search for locals with interest in the decentralized economy and that's how I found this post. I look forward to read all your post and maybe meet you on my next trip to the island.
