Introducing Myself

in #introduction2 years ago (edited)

Hi everyone. I only joined Hive via ListNerds a week or so ago, and I'm still overwhelmed by it. This is just my first post to say hi.

So instead of boring you with my whole life story which is far from extraordinary, I will just briefly tell you who/what I am.

IMG_1032.JPG
I can smile.

Happily Married Gay

I'll be 58 this year. Born in Japan, moved to the UK when I was 23, and I've been with my English husband since 2007. We live in London with a 4-year-old Jack Russell.

I Was An Alcoholic Accountant

I'm a recovering alcoholic - battled all my life. I quit drinking (again) around 2011-2012 for the 3rd time because I had to take a few important accountancy exams at the time. I've been sober since.

I'm An Asperger

I may have ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder). I was supposed to be officially diagnosed by a specialist in early 2020, which was then cancelled due to the pandemic.

It makes sense because I'm a weirdo when it comes to verbal communications - I'm a super-friendly, peacemaker guy, but I'm not very good at spontaneous, heated conversations.

Semi-Retired

I quit my job as an accountant 6 years ago and my husband's also taken early retirement. I work part-time from home doing some marketing, designing, and occasionally accountancy when a job comes in.

Taking Thing Easy...Old Age Sucks But OK

There are fewer things we can do each day as we get older, you know. Every morning we go out for a couple of hours then come home because we need to pee (bladder control! Old age sucks. 🤣)

I know it sounds cliché but my husband & I tell each other to embrace each day and enjoy life as much as we can because we don't know how much longer we have left. We're both healthy (reasonably!) but we're definitely in the latter third of life. Anything could happen.

I don't intend to drink ever again because if I do next time, I'll probably die. And I can't be bothered to find out if I really am ASD or not. It doesn't matter to me now - if I am, I am.

IMG_0635.JPG

I'm not sure how often I can publish this blog because I write incredibly slow. And I also spend my time updating my old site cybercashworldwide.com which at least generates extra income for now. I've still no idea about Hive, I'm enjoying learning about it right now, and will continue trying.

That's it for my introduction. Thanks for reading!

Ray

p.s. Thank you all for your comments, sorry if I haven't replied, that's because I don't have enough...points?? I definitely will over time!

Sort:

Give Hive a chance to grow on you, Hive doesn't care if you write slow or even snail slow, if you posts are sincere and thoughtful, you'll be amazed at the rewards and I'm not talking just money here.

For your introduction post, you should have used these tags as well: #introduceyourself and/or #introducemyself, it gets more people more chances to see your post.

I'm tagging here @traciyork and @lovesniper so that your post could be considered for OCD curation.

I joined ListNerds about a month ago, I'm still learning but for sure you don't want to let go of this one, you'll make some mistakes on the way but we all did.

Other than that, WELCOME and ENJOY!

Voted on ListNerds!

Thank you so much! Appreciate it!

Welcome! !CTP

Thank you!

Welcome to the Hive community @dd01a!
We sincerely hope you find everything you are looking for and have found a new home here.

Seven suggestions to consider:

  1. Guard your passwords carefully, and only publish with the posting key,
  2. Use your active key only for wallet transactions, Keychain, Peaklock, and Hivesigner,
  3. The master password and the owner key are only used to reset compromised passwords,
  4. DO NOT lose your passwords; copy and store offline,
  5. Do not publish other people's work, be it photos or written, without credit, and be sure to source all of your work, even if it is your own.
  6. An introduceyourself tag is used only once , and
  7. DO NOT OPEN any links in memos or comments that you do not know who they belong to. If it sounds too good to be true it probably is, so the old saying goes. There is nothing free here.

I found you because @brittandjosie and @jamerussell from @heyhaveyamet presented and promoted your publication to get more exposure and help you grow faster.

If you find yourself overwhelmed and need some guidance, or if you have any questions, there are informed Hiveans available who can help you; you can click to go to The Terminal in Discord here:

Have fun and happy Hiving!

Wow, thank you so much. I didn't know about the "posting key" - I'm not sure how I managed to publish this one...I guess I'll learn the next time. Thank you, I appreciate your help. Have a great day!

I'll delegate some Hive Power to help you comment and upvote more often while you get your bearings. Those early resource credit restrictions suck. Be sure to write down and save your keys somewhere offline!

Wow, thank you so much, I appreciate it! 😊

Because this is such an awesome post, here is a BBH Tip for you. . Keep up the fantastic work

Thank you so much!

Welcome to Hive & Listnerds Ray.

I know hive can be a little overwhelming. I'm an old hat at this having been here nearly 5 years now, but even an old hat can see it is a steep learning curve lol

Anyway, my advice is just to take your time learning things and enjoy blogging instead of trying to push yourself too much, too fast.

Also, talking in comments sections, and building relationships with the writers/vloggers you like on hive is the way to grow your account.

Hope you have a blast here on hive.
Take care 🙂

Hello, thank you for your comment, and sorry for the late response. Wow, 5 years! Thank you so much for the advice, I'll take time but will try as much as I can. Thank you, have a great day!

Hey @dd01a Ray, welcome to the community, I have recently joined also. So also getting to know the platforms and the people.

Your dog is lovely I have two, I'm currently living in Mexico with my son but from UK.

untitled.gif

Thank you so much Lisa Marie, it must be great living in Mexico, it's one of the countries that I've been wanting to visit for years. Good to know you have two doggies too. Have a great day!

Hey @dd01a nice to be connected here, yes we are enjoying it for sure. 😀

I wonder if it was hard to get used to living abroad if you don’t like spontaneous heated conversations… that’s one of my top reasons for wanting to come back to Japan, it’s so easy to avoid those. I like deep or meaningful conversations, but once people start to get angry, I just want to leave it alone.

I wonder how much a diagnosis of ASD can be influenced by one’s cultural upbringing. Like how common is it that someone would be diagnosed in one country but not in another? Just something that popped into my mind because my behavior is interpreted so differently depending on who it is interpreting.

Anyway, it sounds like you are in a good place now 😊 glad to meet you.

Btw 58!? I'm mid-30's and we look the same age!

Nice to see some people coming from Listnerds and other projects besides blogging and gaming. The more variety here, the better.

Hi! Thank you for sharing your thoughts. YES, I think so. In my case, in retrospect, I struggled a lot when I first came to the UK for not being able to keep an interesting conversation going. I thought it was entirely due to the lack of my English at the time. Partly so, but I was never good at verbal conversations/debates in Japanese either anyway. I covered it very well by being cheerful, polite, caring, and laughing a lot, and that was enough with Japanese friends. But over here (and I guess in many other countries) I'd be seen as just a sweet guy but not much in my brain. 😅

Anyway all that was when I was young and I didn't see it as a struggle (now I'm so old, I don't really care! 😂) Thank you so much, I'll catch you up soon. I like your music!

Cool post. I think it's very brave and cool that you put yourself out there and tell us all there is to tell (for now hehe). And great job being sober for this long.
I come from a family of alcoholics, with 2 siblings and two parents who were all heavy drinkers at some stage but made it sound like it was just 'recreational' drinking.

My father actually quit when I was quite young, and managed to 'just' drink during some occasions, maybe twice a year. My mother was the kind of person who'd 'only' drink two glasses of wine each evening. But the glass was big enough to empty the bottle...
My brother was the worst. He was a functioning alcoholic though. Drinking every single day of his life, since he was 17, but never missed a day of work. So I was very surprised and impressed that around 6 years ago, he drank his last drink, and has been sober since.
If he could do it, then everyone can.

So major respect for you!

As for your possible ASD, I think it doesn't matter at all whether you have the diagnosis or not. I've been through the whole thing myself, and I don't need a stamp of approval to know who I am haha. My youngest son would definitely be diagnosed with one or the other if tested but I chose not to do anything. He's great the way he is, there's no need for 'professionals' to tell me that.

Anyway, thanks for sharing this, and a little bit about your life, and welcome to Hive & Listnerds!

Hello! Sorry for the late reply, and thank you so much for sharing your stories. I'm probably just like your brother then, was drinking every single day but never let it affect work ("functioning alcoholic" yes!)

It's good to know about your youngest son too, we don't need to be labelled our personalities by the professionals, I guess!

Thank you for your comment, have a great day!

I'm a super-friendly, peacemaker guy, but I'm not very good at spontaneous, heated conversations.

That sounds very normal 🙂

Welcome to HIVE and ListNerds, hope you enjoy both 😍

Thank you so much, I sure will enjoy the platforms I appreciate it! Have a great day!

Hey Ray! Welcome to Hive!
I'm sure you'll find many people from ListNerds here.

I'm living in Japan right now. Do you still know Japanese? 😅

Hive could get very overwhelming for a newbie ('cause that's what happened to me when I joined) but there are tons of support groups here that are willing to help.
If you have some questions, feel free to join The Terminal discord server.
They have been very helpful to me until now.

Take your time in writing.
There's no time frame here as to when you need to post. 😅

Good luck on your journey!

Hello! Sorry for the late response, I ran out of RC 😅 Great to know that you live in Japan, yes of course I still remember Japanese, though I've not been back for 15 years or so. I enjoy reading your blog updates from Japan. Thanks also re: The Terminal, I didn't know that, I will join in a minute.
Thanks again, have a great day!

よかった!It's really hard not to forget your native language.
15 years is a very long time! I'm quite surprised. I guess you are happily living in where you are now that you haven't visited Japan for such a long time. 😅
Thanks for reading my blog posts!
And I hope to meet you in The Terminal.
Have a great day!

Nice to meet you Ray! Glad to have you on board.

Hello Ray, welcome to Hive :) It's nice that you are enjoying learning. Cheers to you and all the best :)

Thank you so much!

Hello, @dd01a! This is @anggreklestari from the @OCD team. We saw that you already posted your first post here in Hive Blockchain! Congratulations and welcome!

Well, you can explore the communities that are suitable for your content. You can read some of the communities in this post: [https://peakd.com/hive-174578/@ocd/ocd-communities-incubation-program-update-75]

For tips and information as a Hive newbie, click here: newbie guide.

The important thing is Hive is a bit different from other social media platforms since you are monetizing your blog. You can't include content that you don't own without sources. For more information, check this post: Why and How People Abuse and Plagiarise.

If you have questions or concerns, you can hop into OCD's Discord server and we'll gladly answer your questions.

Have a great day!

Thank you for your help! I'm so sorry I missed your comment, just found it. Your link to the OCD Communities Incubation Program helps, thank you so much. I appreciate it. You too have a great day!

Hello, Ray. Welcome to ListNerds and to Hive. It is nice to meet you.

Congratulations on your sobriety. That is awesome.

As far as Asperger's Syndrome is concerned, I am a medical professional and I feel that if you have managed all of these years on your own, then you do not need someone to "label" you.

Hello, sorry for the delay in replying (I didn't have enough RC!) Thank you for the advice, I appreciate it! I enjoy reading your blog. Have a great day!

I totally understand, Ray. When I first started off I ran out of RC and a friend of mine delegated me some, so I will pay it forward.
Thanks for reading my stuff, I appreciate it.
Enjoy your Hive journey!

Thank you so much John!

My pleasure, Ray.

Welcome to the club! Listnerds has been an awesome tool for marketing my Hive blog. I love the extra engagement and upvotes it has brought me. Plus I am earning the platform tokens as well, so it is a win - win! No surprise, I found your post on Listnerds!

Hello, sorry for the delay in replying, thank you so much, I appreciate it! I do enjoy reading your blog posts!

Thanks, I appreciate that too!

Welcome to Hive & Listnerds! Don't worry about all the info that has arrived and what you have to take in, it's a lot, but if you just take it step by step and do not worry about all the rest (yet), you will manage!

It seems like you have a story to tell and that you have overcome some serious hardships, that's a great material to write about if you wish to share of course. If you are a slow typer, maybe a speech-to-text app could help you.

I would love to read more!

!CTP

Thank you so much! It's your "how-to" guide posts that are helping me learn it all. Without them, I really wouldn't have had any idea, so I hugely appreciate your help. Thank you!

Welcome to Hive! 😊

Thank you!
