An Introduction to QueenMeteor and my introduction to Hive

Hello Hive 👋

About Me

My name is Dee. I am a 27 year old transfem from Connecticut USA. I work in management, but have a background of IT. I am always interested in new technology, but find myself frequently disappointed. I'm very skeptical of centralized platforms and tech in general. That said, I host my own servers and love FOSS.

I have a website EjectDrive.com which I use infrequently, but which allows my occasional creative rant to have a dumping ground.

My current hobby is finding ways to consolidate my digital life, currently with Jellyfin and SyncThing.

I have ADHD and test high for Autism. I'm opinionated, and obstinate about those opinions, but I'm always willing to see your point of view and have a discussion.

How I joined Hive

My story on Hive starts with discord messages I sent recently:

My fundamental issue with decentralized networks is that they still manage to be centralized, if that makes sense. I have to make an account with bluesky or someone else if I want to use it. I can't just plug my phone into the network and then filter out what I do and don't want to see. If bluesky shut down their servers, everyone with an account there would be stuck. I guess what I really want is blockchain social media, without stupid crypto scam stuff attached.

I don't want federated, I want total P2P, with content discovery mechanisms.

I did some searching and found Secure Scuttlebutt, Nostr, and Hive.

I thought that Secure Scuttlebutt would be the answer, and I think it still has a lot of potential. For now though, discovering Hive is the closest thing I can find to decentralized communication, no strings attached. It's not perfect, but I hope it can gain traction.

Politics
For those who say they hate politics, you made my existence political. Stop trying to make Queer people illegal and I'll stop talking about politics.

I'm a Left-Libertarian (Libertarian Communist). Trans Rights are Human Rights. Gun Rights are Queer Rights.

Libertarian Communist?
Well, maybe better described as a Socialist Democrat. But I like the confusion the terminology causes.

...a mixed economy, in which government provided public goods while the private sector produced plentiful goodies to satisfy our whims — all in all, a civilised form of capitalism where inequality and exploitation were kept in check in the context of a politically mediated truce between the owners of capital and those who had nothing to sell but their labour.

...the ability to choose your partners and your projects.

...time to read, to experiment and to write.

— Yanis Varoufakis, Technofeudalism

Government is the structure that we use to provide stability. Politics is the process by which we resolve differences of opinion to form a government. Even Anarchy requires government to sustain it; else people desire stability and form structures to support themselves.

As long as people are supported and stable, they should be free to do what they like, so long as all others have the same rights. We should strive to support each other, but no one should be required to give more than their taxes. Everyone should be entitled to Life, Liberty, The Pursuit of Happiness, and the basic means to maintain those things.

I am always interested in new technology, but find myself frequently disappointed.

You'll be rather pleased here, disappointment is a common emotion a lot of users feel! :D

There's a lot of great people on HIVE. Join some communities that interest you, make comments, have some discussions, and don't be afraid to speak your mind.

Use genuine words. Know that the chain has a version history, so there's no hiding behind "I never said that, or I never did that" - and that's one of the things I LOVE.

People can change their opinions, and change their minds, but they can't just edit something and deny it ever happened. A ledger of communication is an awesome concept.

I agree that the ledger is an important part of the platform, providing accountability. I never want to dodge the things I've said, but ensure I'm representing myself as accurately as possible.

I love that! I like to think that most users think before they hit the "Reply" or "Post" button, and as a result - we get more thoughtful (and longer) discussion on the platform.

I got confused - so, it worked, lol.

Welcome, Dee!

Government

Agree. A sort of soft libertarianism is a proper way. With the government.

Welcome to the best web3 network ever, Dee. Have fun around here!

Giving you a follow. You seem like my people. Hive is great - been here for years. Sure, it's hard to get going, but you'll make connections, I promise.
