No Eclipse Glasses? No Problem!

in #life7 years ago

Everyone in the lower 48 states in America will see the solar eclipse tomorrow, Monday August 21, even those not in the 70 mile wide path of totality.

No eclipse glasses? No problem, just switch your cell phone camera to front facing selfie mode and watch over your shoulder!

Remember to not look directly at the eclipse! It can damage your corneas permanently.

Also, @centaurmystic had mentioned that if you want to take a picture of the eclipse, You should fill a bucket or container with water and take a picture of the reflection.

Oh, will it damage your lens?

No I think his point was you could also look at it and get some good pictures.

Ok yea, before I read it I was picturing the eclipse might damage your lens lol!

Great advice, thanks! And thanks for introducing us :)

Everyone staring at the eclipse will be turned to stone. There will be millions of new statues to hang our coats on tonight. I’m going pick up a female hopefully striking an interesting pose, dress her up and call her Moaning Myrtle.

looks like you are in the eclipse by your pic lol

It's a film-frame of the Monolith from Kubrick's 2001.

But 75% of Myrtles appeal is her annoyance and voice! A stone version of her... hmmm

lol

It is very catchy, true.

Good tip, it works like a periscope, the title made me think of a other alternative to directly look at eclipses.
(Maybe unsafe to do idk)

Less common to have but safe are welders glasses/mask.

I haven not heard of the Disc one...

Yes, a welders mask would work, unfortunately I misplaced my set ;)

Good share! Although I wouldn't try the disc until you have researched it well, from a few different sources... I'm a safety girl :)

It's definitely needed to research it better and there is probably difference with brands as wel, it's better to be safe.., it can only be tried 2 times in the worst case.

NASA says that most welding lenses are too low a shade. Mine are shade 10 and they say no lower than shade 12 is acceptable. I looked through 2 layers of shade 10 today to see what it looks like and it was quite dark (considerably darker than through a single lens) so perhaps that might be OK? Hopefully it won't burn out the chip in my camera because I'll try taking some pictures too. Safest way is to watch the eclipse in the electronic display screen of a digital camera.

cool post, thanks

You are welcome :) Be safe <3

I am in a prophetical mood with this...august 21 = 08+21=29=2+9=11=1+1=2...it took me 2 minutes to write this comment...X)

But, but... 8+21+2017=21 2+1=3!

LOL!

Oh... Creepy... The Eclipse is running along the 33rd parallel...

And the numbers all add up to 3!

Apocalyptic omen?

lol

lol also somewhere in the world it's 3 o'clock now...now is 3 letters!!!!

The number 3 has three points... Holy breakfast biscuits, Batman!

LOL!!!

At the mall today I saw a store selling eclipse glasses for $19.99! Lol...

Wow. Yea, this eclipse has made some quick and big money for a few people!

There gas and supply shortages in smaller towns all along the path!
