A panic attack is a form of anxiety disorder. Adrenaline is released rapidly into the bloodstream. A message of fear sends a signal to the adrenal glands which produce the hormone. When the adrenaline is release, it gives you intense ability to respond to emergency conditions. This urgent situation reaction causes physical symptoms that can also be misapprehended. This can even cause the fright response to increase.
There are a few methods of how to stop panic attacks from occurring. Once a person experiences a panic attack, the fear of experiencing another one becomes the focal issue in their lives. Ironically, it is this fear and dread of having another attack that actually creates a mind state of anxiety; and in that case, another similar episode is just inevitable. This phenomenon is usually called the ‘cycle of fear’, as one attack indirectly leads to another.
Symptoms of anxiety
Symptoms of anxiety may include shortness of breath, racing pulse, profuse sweating, heart palpitation, dizziness, shaking, trembling and even fear of death.

There are several ways of how to stop panic attacks. The person who is experiencing those, needs to make a serious effort in controlling his/her state of mind. To gain maximum control over the situation, people must confront the causes directly. For example, if the reason behind their torment is a certain place, any specific event or certain circumstances, then the sufferers should face them directly, and learn how to alter the thoughts linked with them. Treating panic attacks is mostly dependent on the ability of the patient to cope with the anxiety state. Medication helps too; but it cannot prevent it completely.

Fortunately panic attacks are treatable conditions. Panic attack treatment can be successful with self-help approach or a series of psychotherapy sessions. Here are a few kind of therapies mentioned, that are part of the complete and successful panic attack treatment.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy:
This effective form of treatment focuses on the thinking patterns and behaviors that are causing the panic attacks. It helps you to look at your fears; and assess them in a more practical way.
Exposure Therapy:
Exposure therapy is very helpful for treating panic attacks. In this treatment, you are exposed to the sensations of panic. The therapist may ask you to perform exercises like holding your breath, shaking head side to side, or hyperventilating. These exercises cause similar feelings as the symptoms of anxiety. But with each exposure, you become less afraid and find a greater self control.
