The life of one family was tracked for five centuries

in #life7 years ago

A team of researchers from the US and Israel managed to create a record large family tree, tracing the lives of 13 million people in Europe, America, Australia and South Africa, who represent 65 generations of the same family. Thanks to this, it was possible to answer several important questions related to genetics, reports Science.

To collect almost unparalleled genealogy genealogy was possible with the help of sites devoted to genealogy. On them, people seek relatives and learn the stories of their families.

Also in recent years, such studies are conducted by representatives of so-called "genetic start-ups". They collect the DNA of clients and promise them to find relatives.

However, after studying the dates of more than a dozen million people, scientists came to the conclusion that "longevity genes" determine the duration of human life by only 16 percent, rather than 25, as previously thought.

In other words, if your ancestor was a long-liver, it is not at all necessary that you have the same fate. On average, carriers of such genes live only five years more than other people.

Scientists write that the probability to predict the date of death of a person by its DNA analysis, unfortunately, is minimal
