Random thoughts about people..
Remembering this quote from Eleanor Roosevelt:
"Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people."
There seem to be a lot of small minds nowadays... maybe people have too much idle time, not enough hobbies or an uninteresting life, inside or out.
Especially when I hear adult men gossip like high school girls do, I wonder what is going on here.
I think some people like to gossip and focus on the perceived faults of others because they think poorly of themselves or are in reality shitty people. Putting others down makes them feel better. Its everyone's desire to feel good - though that is a weak route to take.
There is a certain freedom in leaving people alone and minding your own business. Without small minded gossip, comparisons or obsessive judgements, there is more time and mental focus dedicated on your own life, family, dreams and interests.
For many, that may entail facing the things you've been avoiding or too ashamed to admit, faults and shortcomings that were not forgiven or improved. Doing the work and moving on.. could be a lifelong practice.
