RE: April 26th - Memorial Day in Ukraine

in #life5 years ago

Howdy zirochka...was Chernobyl in Ukraine? oh man...that video is scary.
You said they could have reduced the victims but did not, how could they have reduced the victim?

Sort:

Yes, it was in Ukraine, in 150 km from Kyiv - its capital. Immediately after the accident, any documents about what happened were classified so that there would be no panic.

April 26th, 01:23 - exploision in Pripyat.
The people who put out the fire knew almost nothing about radiation and did not protected from it.
April 27th, 14:00. evacuation from Pripyat begins. Residents were given two hours to pack up. They were asked to bring with them only the most necessary for two or three days, a little food, changing cloths and documents. All dosimeters have been removed.
April 28th, 21:00. The news on the central Soviet TV reports on what happened at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. "Measures are taken to eliminate the consequences of the event. The victim gets help. Government commission created". That was all information.
April 29th. #6 news in the Soviet TV program is the information that as a result of the accident two people died, part of the reactor building was damaged, residents of Pripyat and three surrounding cities were evacuated. The first real information in the western world appeared on Tuesday morning when Washington analysts received images of Chornobyl from a powerful American reconnaissance satellite. They were shocked when they saw that the roof was torn from the reactor, and something inside burns and smoke. The first Soviet photographs of the Chornobyl catastrophe were censored before they were published in newspapers - smoke disappeared from them.
April 30th. TASS news agency passes a government statement in which western allegations of mass casualties are refuted. The statement repeats the former statement that two people died as a result of the event, 197 people were hospitalized, and the radiation level decreased.
May 1. The wind changed the direction and now blows towards Kiev. Traditional May Day (Labor Day) demonstrations took place in Minsk and Kyiv to emphasize that everything is "normal". On this day, one of the peaks of radioactivity was recorded in the capital.
May 6 - The first detailed message about what happened appeared in the newspaper. Schools in Kyiv were closed, children start evacuating. May 6!!!! Isn't it a crime against our country?

My heart hurts every time I think of that... It is so scary

Howdy today zirochka..oh my gosh...how far away from the reactor did it affect people? And did people move back to that town? Chernobyl is all covered in concrete isn't it? Thanks so much for taking the time to explain this to me. That documentory or tv series that you sent the video about looks very interesting but terrible because it's all true.

Hello, @janton! To be honest, I am thankful for a chance to tell and explain what happened here.
The reactor itself is covered with new concrete shelter

The effect was terrible, and I found a table on Wiki article, here is it:

Thank you so much for your compassion and indifference. I'm going to watch the series, are you?

Howdy zirochka! Thanks for all this information. I'll watch the series if it's available on our system I forgot where it was going to be shown on.

I am not sure, HBO is a TV channel in US, am I right?

yes Ma'am it is, I think we have that on our Dish Network but we never watch it because
most of the stuff on there is not the kind of thing that I watch but I'll check their schedule
and see when that's on, thank you! You guys are wonderful.

Thank you for your kind words, janton! I just checked its scheduler, it is premier in USA and GB, and nothing about other world )) Irony...
