There are NO problems, only SOLUTIONS - Day Zero Practice round :)

in #life7 years ago

Well, we had an interesting start to our day today - haha!

As many of you will know, we have had a serious drought here in Cape Town, South Africa - and have all been mentally preparing for what is being referred to as "DAY ZERO" which is the day where our entire water supply is turned off due to lack of water availibility. Day zero was originally planned for the end of April but according to local municipality, it has now been pushed to July because of extra water saving efforts made by the public.

(To be honest, I don't really buy into that whole thing... quite frankly I don't trust much when politicians are involved.)

But either way, we began making necessary provisions some months back already and now have wall to wall water in our garage as you can see... (and this is only one wall lol)

So, anyway...

Since yesterday there has been no water in several local suburbs and naturally a lot of complaints on social media... When we got up this morning, there was still no water. Apparently there is a burst main somewhere which the local municipality are working on...

and so... it was finally time to test out our "DAY ZERO SHOWER" which we purchased some time back...

Introducing - the solution! hahaha!

Yes, that is indeed a garden pressure sprayer... lol!

So, we removed the long arm sprayer,
filled it with 3l of cold bottled water
and then 1.7l of hot kettle water.

And it worked like an absolute bomb! haha
On 5 litres of water, two of us showered,
and there was still enough water left over for two of us
to brush our teeth etc.
In fact there is still a little bit of water left in it...

I am super impressed with this little
"MACGUYVER" tactic lol!

And that, my friends is proof...
that there are NO problems...
only solutions!!

hehehehe!

Until next time...

Much Love from Cape Town, South Africa xxx

Brilliant! NO MATTER what happens to me I know there is always a solution. But, I couldn't imagine dealing with that. I hope it gets solved. Best of luck!
...OH and honestly I think we should be doing what you have done regularly... When I shower all I can think about is how much is wasted and how many people go without drinking water. I know I am not a big part and won't make much of a difference, but I always try to make my waste minimal.

You make a VERY good point re. the constant saving of water!

That is so cool! Excellent DIY shower you've got there. I've heard a little bit about the craziness that's been going on over there. Glad to see you're making the best of it. Stay safe!

Thank you @jeremycrow :)

way to go for staying positive! Been thinking about this so much, actually just wrote a post pretty related to this, keep that attitude up!

Sorry to hear about your situation maam, but very clever about the spray shower... love it.... water conservation is a must really...

There are absolutely NO problems...only solutions, I love the way you have dealt with the situation, great idea @jaynie, Ghana I think is lucky because it is raining heavily here

Ah yes, I've been reading about you guys' water crisis there; it would seem that if the city continues to grow you'll end up as part of coastal Peru and Chile, and parts of Australia where desalination plants provide most of the fresh water.

Well done on your test run, though!

Good for you and so happy that you managed to be positive about this instead of negative.

Great job,,weldone

Yes you've done best thing by saving water even if there is no water for days

Very impressive

It's a matter of perspective. One will find solutions while other is still complaining about problems!

Thanks for sharing! For me it is still hard to grasp how in our advanced society there are people without the access to drinking water. It is sad but we are changing it with every step!

Hahahahahaha that is one smart idea i must admit.

I prepared my family for this with a great little device as well and only around $60.00 USD:

Fill it with water, let it sit in the sun and hang it over your head.

I love it because it provides pressure! Just perfect. Thus might be our shower solution when we start traveling in a bus! Thanks for sharing!

from your post I get to know about drought , hows the weather?

Hahaha that water spray is genius!!! So have water supply come back to you?

THAT is hilarious!

That's Bosslady for you. As shrewd as a fox.

Truly MacGyvered! Cape makes California water issues seem mild! That was bought on eBay (just going by the brand name here), am I right? Hehehe
