Being a social species, our survival in prehistoric times depended on forming groups and being completely loyal to them, despite their simplicity, in order to deal with the various dangers all around, like predators, epidemics, natural disasters, etc
.
As we entered the agricultural era, groups started to become of a more complicated structure, including larger amounts of people living in certain parts of land, claiming them their own. As populations increased and cities appeared, different groups started to form in various and isolated spots across the continents of the ancient world. As years and centuries passed, these groups began to have their own languages, cultures, and traits, with all of these characteristics being a natural result of certain social, natural, and cultural factors
.
As populations became bigger, societies and empires started to clash in wars for survival or influence in a scary world characterized by zeal and bigotry in the favor of one’s own group. Till this day, we still have countless wars caused by this blind loyalty
.
However, today, if we manage to save ourselves from ourselves, we might be at the threshold of an unprecedented chapter in Human history- i.e the chapter of “One Planet, One Humanity”, whereby the highest value is humans themselves
.
Looking at the exponential technological advancement, our expanding knowledge on one hand, and our increasing abilities to cause destruction on the other hand, we have two options- either get rid of our bigotry for our groups (be it political, religious, nationalist or any other group) and make use of what we have to build a Pan-Human Civilization for the first time in history, or maintain our zealous and bigot views favoring the groups in which we were accidentally born, thus leading to more conflicts, and possibly annihilating humanity
.
