Good cop or bad cop? Does it actually make any f**kin' difference?

in #life6 years ago

Widowed mum of four, blah blah blah blah blah, said all that before. Teenager land, seriously??
Who would want to be there?
So today, after trying soooooo hard to convince my almost 15 year old daughter, that I'm NOT the enemy, and that maybe, JUST MAYBE, we could actually be friends, I get yet another call from the school regarding her stupid, pointless, just dumb, behaviour. Nothing serious, just stupidly shouting and yelling in the corridors, and using her phone inside the building. Uuuuurgh 🙈🙉. Don't get me wrong, she did apologise when she came home, but still trying to justify her position.....she has a bit to learn yet

Then tonight, my 16 year old son, freaks out because his long hair is getting tangled. So I suggest that I cut the damaged bit off the bottom. Now I'm no hairdresser, but having had long hair all my life, plus two daughters with long hair, I know a thing or two. So with his hair washed, I proceed. Now, bare in mind, I'm taking 2-3 inches off hair that's around 15-16 inches long, and all one length. Within fifteen minutes, it's done, cut and dried. Next thing I know he's freaking out that I've made a mess and he hates it.....
Next 5-10 minutes are spent with me sobbing my heart out, on my own.
Now, Aaron, being Aaron, is downstairs after this, apologising, as he always does once he calms down, and I totally get that.
However, being on the recieving end of both outbursts leaves me somewhat deflated.
With nobody to share every story with, can I actually play both good and bad cop, and still win??????!
Oh yeah, the photo is of my goofy English pointer, who always makes me laugh.

Wow! Lovely to read. It doesn't really matter how your children feel about your actions as you know they're right. They'll get to understand and appreciate your efforts someday.
