Is having a personal website really necessary in this day and age?

Hello fellow steemians! I hope all is good.

Okay, so I’m a student and unfortunately, I’m nearing the end of my studies and thus I need to start building up my CV. So I’m trying to apply for internships and what I’ve noticed in the personal details section, is an empty slot for me to insert either a link of a personal website and/or a link for a linked in account.

Now, I don’t know if I’ve been living under a rock but since when do companies request a personal website or linked in account? I mean I’m only a student so I don’t exactly have a lot of experience under my belt. That being said, what on earth would I include in a personal website?

I’m in desperate need of help steemians!

Clearly there are many benefits of having a personal website. However, how many people actually have websites? Is it really a common thing? Can a person not get their dream job without a personal website or a linked in account?

If you have the answers, please let me know!

P.s, do you have a personal website or linked in account?
