What do all of us usually do at the beginning of a new year? We make New Year resolutions right or things to do for the New Year, right? We always list down things such as earning more money, losing weight, making new friends, find a new job, eat healthier foods, exercise more, and travel more as our New Year resolutions. But, are we able to do all of that? Most likely we cannot because there are too many things to do and not enough time. If we try to do all of them, we will end up doing nothing because we don’t focus. 

新的一年开始，我们大家通常都做些什么？我们为新年制定新的志向和新年想做的事情，对吗？我们总是列出一些事情，比如赚更多的钱、减肥、交新朋友、找新工作、吃更健康的食物、锻炼身体和旅行，作为我们的新年的新志向。但是，我们能做到这一切吗？很可能我们不能，因为有太多的事情要做和没有足够的时间。如果我们试着去做所有的事情，我们最终将什么也没做到因为我们没有集中注意力。

This is a story about a man who went to personal coach to seek for advice to change his life. This man was receiving more than 100 emails a day at work and he only had time to open 10 or 20 emails. After a month, he had thousands of unread emails in his inbox. 

这是一个关于一个男人去找私人教练寻求改变生活的建议的故事。这个男人在一天的工作里收到了超过100封的电子邮件然而他只来得及开10至20封电子邮件。一个月后，他的收件箱里有成千上万未阅读的电子邮件。

He also had to work 2 jobs in his office. During his free time, he was trying to build his own business. Soon, he was not able to spend quality time with his family and friends. This man became very frustrated, stressed, and overwhelmed.

他还得在他的办公室里干着两份工作。在他空闲的时间里，他试图建立自己的事业。很快，他不能与家人和朋友共度时光。这个男人感到非常沮丧，紧张，不知所措。

The personal coach told the man: “Pick a place to start with. Choose something on your to do list. That item must be something that if you don’t complete it, you will regret it. Start with that and put your greatest focus in completing it”.

私人教练告诉他：“选择一个地方开始。选择在你的事项清单里的东西。那项东西必须是如果你没完成它你将会后悔的东西。从此开始，把你最大的精力放在完成它”。

Like most people, this man had too many things to do on his to do list and he did not know where to begin.

和大多数人一样，这个人在自己的事项清单上有太多的事情需要做，他不知道从何着手。

It is better to do one thing really well rather than to do a lot of things poorly. When you do your New Year resolutions or to do list, don’t try to do everything at once. This is not a race. Find out which item on your list that will make you most satisfied if you complete it. Use that as your starting point and begin to work towards more things. This will make you feel less overwhelmed and more relaxed. You will also be excited to see that you have a strategy for moving forward with things. So, if you are stuck, just pick a place to start.

最好是把一件事做得最好，而不是把许多事情做得很糟糕。当你在做你的新年志向计划时，不要一下子就要完成任何事情。这不是一场比赛。找出清单上哪个项目如果你把它完成了能让你最满意。以此为起点，开始朝更多的方向努力。这会让你感到不那么沮丧和放松。你也会很高兴看到你有一个前进的策略。所以，如果你被困住了，只要选择一个地方开始。
