Our Palapa is Fixed; True Craftsmanship at Work!

in #life6 years ago (edited)

Hi everyone! It's great to be back after a week's hiatus :) There's been a lot going on around here, but one is particular is I got to watch a true craftsman repair our grass palapa; this is the view I'm enjoying as I type this :)
x7tr4lo95r.png

Here's the palapa when we moved in. You can see some holes in the main one, and the little one, which covers the stairs, was in need of some major repairs. Since we only have a studio, the "patio" is definitely living space, so our wonderful landlord, George, decided to fix it for us no problem!
ao77nxnupt.png

One man arrived and began cutting away all of the grass around the seams ... along the peak and down the sides of the roof.
wmn94rgksx.png

The first day he actually worked bare feet, but the second day he did wear shoes :)
4y874n0r2p.png

I climbed up to our roof (there's a ladder in place for that) to get this shot. Most roofs here in Mexio have water tanks on them (the black tanks) where water is held and refilled when necessary. We're lucky to be on a cenote, so it only needs to pumped up from under ground; cold and fresh! The roof also houses the satelite dishes and airconditioners.
azvw5gv5h4.png

Here's a closeup of the seam of the roof once he had prepared it for the new grass.
8a0x3zoxap.png

Speaking of "new grass", it was all brought in on the bed of a pickup truck that George went to have loaded. Apparently it's a huge field of grass that gets cut almost like hay does.
huc4oxge34.png

We all helped bring the bundles to the empty lot beside us where the worker then hauled them up by rope to the roof top.
l2hxkz2ro3.png

The bundled grass has some already dried but some bits still green,
zs0689zmjk.png

and then each bundle is wired onto the beams on the inside of the palapa. It really is a work of art!
78ghwb4yu6.png

The little palapa was too much to repair, so he simply stripped it and started over.
7qmfk44rjw.png

He had it finished in about 45 minutes! See the garbage bags filled with grass? I guess the field where it comes from is filled with snakes, and at one point, Buddy, our cat, came running to the apartment with a baby snake hanging out of his mouth. Brian managed to get it away from him, but that evening, we discovered 4 more on the patio. The next day the worker told us to watch because they might fall from the roof over the next few days!!! I wore a hat for three days total! Hate snakes!
2mm6dy0n8b.png

This is how it looks today; he trimmed the edge where we have to walk (the stairs are right there.
xrde72j48q.png

Not a gap of light from the inside anywhere! It rained today as well and I stayed completely dry. We also had our coconut lights hung too; it's just beautiful at night :)
ehqsayjwkd.png

Although a photo never quite does it justice!
c2bbo7wvsg.png

I noticed Buddy earlier today and thought he was admiring the new roof as well,
rfuur34bfi.png

but as I looked closer...
3lzjj43vwh.png

I saw this little guy! And Brian was concerned that his mama wasn't feeding him enough! :)
sx38dn6osv.png

I'll leave you with this beauty, taken from my desk before it got dark. It rained this morning and was cloudy most of the day, but true to form, the sun made a short but very sweet appearance, just to say Hi :)
5ja16u78g1.png

Hope you enjoyed the tour! I know it's only been a week, but I'm really looking forward to re-connecting with all of you :)

Cheers!

Awesome. What a beautiful place to just chill out. Wish I had something like that. Thanks for sharing @lynncoyle1

Thank you so much @robertandrew! I wish you had one too; it's the perfect place to chill :)

Wow... it looks like quite a process working on a roof like that, but happy you were able to get everything put back together @lynncoyle1!

Ahhhh now that looks like home!
Now you and Brian can relax, enjoy life together and watch the sunsets!

Thank you so much @goldendawne! Every morning when we pull up the blinds, we are like a couple of grinning kids on Christmas morning :)

A gorgeous Pad you two have there. My God, “look out for snakes falling from the roof top…” yeah right?!? @dandays would completely combust… seriously his most feared thing. I remember when a snake slithered it’s way to our front yard area, a couple years ago, and he quickly said to me “get it”. Haha… with what? My hands? I grabbed a broom stick to try and corral the little guy away from us. I didn’t do a very good job, so I commissioned my bare foot and slightly different neighbor to re-home him. But god forbid I ask @dandays to get the spider. Haha

The work really is an art though. Everything looks beautiful in your hood- glad to hear/see it. And good to have you back @lynncoyle1 😉 !

Spiders, rodents, lions and tigers and bears, oh my! No prob! Spiders, done! Roaches, bugs, whatever, done!

Snakes?! Nope. No way dude, ain’t hap’nin. I don’t care what kinda snake it is. Show me your pet ‘friendliest snake in the world’ snake and I’m out! I don’t care if it’s a ‘friendliest snake’ a ‘kissinest snake’ a ‘cutesie wootsie’ snake, boa constrictor, boa conhugger, boa conwhatever..
I’m out!

Hahaha… yes babe, I know. That’s a big N.O. to worms too :)

Thank you so much @puravidaville! It's great to be back, and yes, the hood is perfect here; I feel so fortunate!

hahaha @dandays, your hero, except when it comes to snakes and worms! My fear stems from a time my father was crouched in the grass, and called me over to show me something. When I got within a few feet, he threw a garter snake at me and laughed his head off as I ran, screaming like a lunatic, to the house!!! I can still see it wriggling at a crazy fast pace through the air at me!

I love your conversations you two! SO cute :) Thanks for stopping by as well!

Damn… that’s not cool Dad! I don’t know where my fear for spiders came from but can tell you that Eddie Money’s pet tarantula attacked me and my roommate unexpectedly one night. It’s was insane! My roommate instinctually stomped on him so the attack was short lived but Eddie didn’t seem too broken up about it. I guess he had left his cage open and the little guy got out- several days later he was jumping at us from the dark corner of our back patio. I thought tarantulas might have been indigenous to the area and was ready to move my happy butt back to San Francisco. Upon running into Eddie at the mailbox, I found out it was probably his pet. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Truth is stranger than fiction :)

The Eddie Money? No kidding!? I would be drooling in a funny farm if a tarantula ever jumped out at me!!! Seriously, I think I'm more afraid of them than snakes, and that's saying plenty!

My dad doesn't even remember doing it! Because it's come up many times over the years haha

Oh yeah, he was our neighbor when I moved to LA after college. I tripped out a little (okay, I tripped out a lot). I was ready to ship my stuff back home, to San Francisco. Good thing I stuck it out because that’s when @dandays and I nurtured our relationship… I guess you can say Eddie brought us closer together. Haha

Haha… “sure Dad”. I remember my dad always treating me like a little boy. Lol… he would always fart on me. Haha… I probably should keep that to myself but 🤷🏼‍♀️ “thanks Dad”. Haha

So cool that you knew Eddie Money, his tarantula and you and @dandays became as one there :) Thanks Eddie! :)

Lol dads !!!

Haha… I knew his tarantula better than I knew him 🤦🏼‍♀️
Come to think of it ‘where were you Dad when the tarantula was crouching in the corner ready to strike?” … haha

Speaking of tarantulas, @dandays and I were in the car yesterday for a quick ride up the street when I see out of the corner of my eye a big buggy thing about to hang down from the passenger side window. I clipped my seat belt off instantly and crab crawled myself into the back seat. Dandays was yelling, “what is it” and then it revealed itself… a spider the size of a quarter, black, thick, hairy like a tarantula, was living in the sill of the passenger side window. At the stop light, Dandays grabbed a napkin from the center console and was able to flick it out into the street… not so fast, I spotted him again so we quickly rolled up the window. This guy was huge… we got to our destination where Dandays was able to corral him onto the pavement and the little bugger ran off under the car. I wasn’t too comfortable with this outcome but it was better than sharing my seat with him.

We were laughing “what would you do if a snake fell from the sky at you” or “jumped at you from the darkest corner of your backyard”.

I’m convinced it was a baby tarantula. Of course, I naturally then looked up spiders as my spirit animal. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Haha

Wow what a nice post. Took me on a little trip. It seem like that is a nice place to live.

Thank you so much @stever82; it really is a wonderful place to live :) Just so mellow and laid back; no one is ever in a hurry! I love it, especially after rushing most of my life :)

Thanks for popping in here too!

That is truly an art, how long does that roof last normally?

I think a good ten years, but the damage (here anyway) is caused by birds pulling it apart to use for their nests :) Our landlord said when the last major hurricane came through here, about three years ago (Wilma?), there was no damage to either of the big palapas on the property at all! That's pretty amazing, isn't it?!

I use to go to Monterrey and Playa del Carmen Mexico pretty regularly back in the 90's and I was always amazed at those structures with the grass roofs like that. I would have thought that all the salt air from the beach would just eat those things up but I guess not based on what you are saying.

We're actually in Playa del Carmen; perhaps the ones right on the beach tell a different story? I'm not sure, but next time I'm there, I'll have to have a closer look :)

Why don't you still travel here? Although it's grown considerably since then. We vacationed here for years as well, and are just far enough away from the major tourist areas to make it thoroughly enjoyable and way more authentic.

I traveled there on business , entertaining clients with golf and fishing and the resort stuff. I switched companies and we don't take customers out of the country with this company and I really didn't enjoy it that much, my spanish isn't that great and I have gotten were I hate to fly now so it just doesn't appeal to me.
My favorite restaurant there was La Parialla , or something like that, downtown, great steaks in that place, I'm not sure of the spelling, but the name meant "the grill" when translated to English.

I love that place! They just bring around trays and trays of meat? That one I think :) We've found that we can cook so cheap at home, we rarely go out anymore, but if and when we're in the mood for some meat sweats, that's the place to go!

I get that the business end of things, entertaining clients would get tiresome, and flying really is a pain in the butt now :)

Welcome back and what a nice spot for sitting and preapring a post, so cool to see how the repairs were down and your spot out there

Thank you @tattoodjay :) Yes, I feel very fortunate to have this as my "office" space! You wouldn't know where to turn first with your camera here :)

Make the most of it ;)

Oh don't you worry about that one :) I pretty much live out here; in fact, it's where I'm still sitting! Thank you :)

What a paradise corner! That to my eyes is a perfect place of some massive mojitos chugging, guitar playing and an awesome poker game with friends.. ahh daydreaming ;-)

That's exactly it!! Paradise corner! Daydream away @f3nix; you never know what the future holds! Brian and I talked about doing this forever, and one day I simply decided to do it. He came home to a guy loading our bbq in his truck and the man, when I introduced them, shook Brian's hand and said, congratulations for deciding to move to Mexico. Brian didn't miss a beat; when the guy left, he turned to me and said, well, I guess this is it?, and I said we can either do it, or just talk about it forever :) We were here a few months later!

Best decision ever :)

Thanks for your words. It's been like yesterday that me and my wife changed everything and went living abroad.. unfortunately it didn't go well notwithstanding all our efforts. What's important however is to raise again after you fall. In the end the mess we lived strenghtened our relation even more 🙂 All the best and enjoy your heavenly palapa!

Hey we've had plenty of messes along the way, but I always figure that if it had happened any differently, we wouldn't be here now. Sounds like some positives came from your experience as well :)

Sounds like some positives came from your experience as well :)

True. We didn't want to suicide in the name of a stereotipical idea of freedom, while instead our quality of life was drasticly better before. This doesn't mean that we didn't fight, we're fighters in my small family. Life is various, it's all good as long as someone never renounces to pursue happiness 🙂

Falling snakes. You know that’s where the saying ‘raining cats and dogs’ comes from right?

When straw roofs were the only option, cats and mice and whatever else that wanted to stay warm would make their homes in the roof. When it rained....

Great job here @lynncoyle1, nice guiding.

What?!! How come I didn't know that??!! Thanks for the lesson @dandays :)

Welcome back! Love the new palapa! Didn't know that's what it was called but cool. Last photo is awesome view. I can send my youngest son to help Buddy with the snakes. Here he is with a garter snake not too long ago. He has taken a liking to snakes. Don't ask, I have no idea lol

IMG_1192.jpg

Thank you @steven-patrick; I'm really lucky to wake up to this view everyday :)

You couldn't pay me to pick that snake up that your son has in his hands! I'm really very afraid of them, even though I know they can't hurt me (well, some around here can I guess :), but I just hate them! Crazy kid!!

Beautiful pictures thanks for sharing them, that guy was certainly very skillful to do that job so quickly :)

Cheers!

You're most welcome @dedicatedguy! Thank you so much for stopping by :)

He is very talented and apparently it's becoming a bit of a lost art among younger people here; it was nice to see that he was in his early 20's and carrying on the tradition :)

@lynncoyle1,

You're life is a Jimmy Buffet song.

The snakes ... not good. You'd think somebody, in respect of Gringo sensibilities, might have taken the time to ensure that the grass was free of anacondas. I cannot even articulate how fast you're losing your tip if a snake crawls out of whatever you've just delivered.

Anyway, stay close to Buddy. God bless him, but he doesn't seem too discriminating about what he puts in his mouth. Although, I bet you'd be able to call his bluff with Brussels Sprouts.

Quill

I saw this comment yesterday and found myself singing this song all day today, especially when I was swinging aimlessly in the hammock :)

Apparently the field where the grass comes from is 'full' of snakes, many full grown! The little babies just get in there because they squirm into the middle of the bundles. We found 4 or 5 over the first couple of days, but thankfully none since. Perhaps Buddy ate them :)

That looks very very nice!
Wish I could say I have the same view when typing this reply.
All the best!

Thank you so much @danielsaori! I too wish you had the same view ... makes the bad things in life simply disappear :)

Thank you for stopping by!

Its looks beautiful!
Funny, in South Africa we call a grass thatched roof a "lapa". coincide?

Posted using Partiko Android

No kidding! A lapa! Sounds pretty similar, doesn't it ? :)

Thank you for stopping by @bluegums :)

Looks amazing :). I live in the North East USA and that place seems a world away.

Thank you @gregorypatrick! We just love it and feel so very fortunate to be here! I'm originally from Ontario, Canada, just across the Detroit border, but spent most of my adult life in Vancouver, north of Seattle ...that all seems like a world away to me now :)

Thank you for stopping by!

Very nice @lynncoyle1. Kind of fascinating I would have sat there and watched him work.

Hope you're all healed up from your bumps and bruises and hope everything is going well with you guys 💜💜

It was so cool; we did watch for a long time, but then I think he was getting a little uncomfortable with it all haha

I am all healed up, although Brian's fallen twice and broke toes on each feet recently! Very fragile bones these days!

Glad you're all healed up. Poor guy it's the little things like this bet gets under his skin. :( I'm the one who kicks chairs all of the time. I think I have pictures from 4 different times I have broken the same toe.

hahaha the same toe! I too kick things all the time and hop around like a freak, but have only ever broke one toe. Yes, Brian gets very frustrated with it all; it's the Prednisone he takes; just leaches the calcium from his bones and teeth (my son jokes that he now breaks teeth on mashed potatoes ... which is not far from the truth anymore!).

Do you fall up the stairs as well? :)

Great office you have! Well... falling snakes 🐍 not too good, but hopefully they will leave your snatched roof soon, not much food there. The grass looks like lemon grass to me. Imagine if it was lemon grass? OMG lemon grass smells divine and repels all mosquitoes and other anoying insects. Well... can’t wait to read more of your adventures there in Mexico. I saw those water tanks and I remembered our cisterns in St. Thomas, we depended on rain fall. You are lucky you have access to fresh water!

That's so interesting that you say lemon grass because there were two potted plants up here that Buddy kept chewing on, and then his breath smelled so lemony haha I took a closer look, and sure enough, it was lemon grass!! :)

And no more snakes ... as far as I can see!

I've always wondered how good a thatched roof works in really heavy rain. Let me know, will ya?

It rained very hard today; the kind of rain that comes down sideways in sheets, and I stayed underneath this thing, dry and on my computer :)

My cousin built a smaller version of this in his back yard in Southern Ontario. I remember him saying how awesome it worked there too. It's pretty amazing I think, but when the heavy rains hit here, for days at a time, I'll let you know then if I'm still dry :)

Hey, I was thinking about you the last few days. So good to see this post.

Wow what a beautiful place. So you pretty much live in an open door space? Feels like a 24-7 vacation by the beach!

Those snakes though!!! Oh my goodness, I don't think I could do it.

My warmest to Brian xx

Till we meet again my friend xx

Thank you @kchitrah! It's nice to see you as always :)

We do have a studio apartment; you can kind of see it in the 'night time' photo here, but I really do spend most of my time outside. In fact, it's where I'm still sitting. I feel so very fortunate to have found this place though, especially when Brian doesn't feel well, and lays inside during the day, I can still feel fresh air and be close enough if he needs anything. This place has a full size pool too; so I can even get some exercise.

I'm with you on the snakes though!

A huge functional outdoor space is a huge bonus! I'm glad the space works for the both of you.

Enjoy the new steemiverse! xx

nice click ... and also very nice blog

Thank you so very much @ridoykhan22 :)

That's a nice palapa. It will also keep the place quite cool during the summer. I always wanted to have one like this on my roof top. But my mom feels it would catch fire during hot summer and not letting me have one.

Posted using Partiko Android

Yes, fire is the only downside to it I guess, but here, all the building are constructed with cement bricks and mortar, so not much to catch fire :)

Long time no.....@lynncoyle1! I also love the thatch. The work is beautiful. Looks quite artistic to me but I guess for the craftsmen it's all in a days work. Here in the Cape area of SA, the old Cape Dutch style is with beautiful thatch rooves, white washed walls and gables. I love it but I guess the thatch is rather a fire hazard!

Hey @buckaroo :) It is truly a craft, and such a dying art I think. The old Cape Dutch style houses sound absolutely beautiful! You're the second person to mention the fire hazard too, but here, all houses are constructed with cement blocks and mortar, so besides the contents, not much can burn :)

Now I have to go knock on some wood somewhere!!! :)

South African houses are all brick and mortar. I think it's only back where you come that they build with wood. Here wood is incorporated (and sometimes used to build) but it's very expensive

I did not know that! I guess Canada has plenty of wood still :)

Wow !! Talk about DIY at work ! It's home afterall.

haha that's it exactly @ireenchew! :)

The place looks so relaxing!

It really is @roselifecoach! I feel so fortunate each time I'm out there :)

I wish I have an open office like this too!

What a view
Those snakes though ...

It looks like a holiday everyday sorta place 😊

It looks like a holiday everyday sorta place 😊

That's it exactly!! Brian and I, every morning when we pull the blinds up to look outside, both smile and can't believe how lucky we are! :)

No more snakes now either, thank goodness!!

So happy for both of you <3

awww thank you so much @kaerpediem! That's so sweet of you to say <3

Thatching is such a skill. Many cottages here are still thatch and there are only a few folk that do the work - properly. Out thatch grass comes in similar bundles but is dry. The creepy crawlies are the major disadvantage of thatch - especially over a house as opposed to a palapa (which we would call a lapa!). And as for the snakes - I hate them, too, but our moggies manage to find them in the garden - even though we don't have a thatched roof!

Good to see you back!

Best to you both :D

@buckaroo was just telling me about the thatch roofs there, especially the old Cape Dutch style places in SA. It's a bit of a dying art here as well I believe, that's why is was so nice to see that this guy was in his early 20's too ... new generation craftsmen, and a pleasure to watch work too haha

I heard that in one of the comments here as well ... lapa! So cool. Thankfully, the snakes are all gone now; they've slithered away to another grassy field, the bird got them, or Buddy did :)

Thanks for popping by @fionasfavourites; it's nice to be back! :)

There are lots of thatches in our village so there are a couple of crews - including young people. We also have mud houses - another dying craft - working with daga. Our village is the best preserved Victorian village in the Western Cape. A bit of an anomaly because the province is usually vernacular Cape Dutch. Also, the original labourers' cottages where thatched with river reed which are quite different in weight and behaviour. Here, grass thatched over the original reeds in a recently renovated house which is a national monument and a mud brick house.
SAM_2039.JPG
The entrance
SAM_2038.JPG
Left over mud bricks - more Victorian thatches in the background
SAM_2031.JPG
Because of the fire hazard and the cost of insurance, more and more people are replacing thatch or building homes without thatch. Quite sad.

PS I'm happy to be back, too, but this RC issue is a pain. I ran out yesterday ....

That's so interesting! What's the name of the village you're in? And yes, the thatched roof tops are different but just as clever nonetheless. The mud houses and bricks I've always thought to be so smart; use what you have I guess!

That's too bad about the RC thing; I wish I could offer some kind of advice, but truthfully, I don't or haven't taken the time, to understand the whole thing yet :)

Our village is McGregor. About 200km from Cape Town. I will share, in a post, about a cottage Weber we're doing a clean-up. It is also mud. Built in the late 19th century.

As for the RC's@bluemist kindly delegated me some enabling me to reply. So grateful to the #steemitbloggers family :)

oh that's awesome! I was actually looking at mine to see if I could afford to give some to you :)

Let me know when you've done that post; I don't want to miss it :)

I do not like snakes either.
Great shots.. and how they fixed it. This is a really interesting post.
So you live in Mexico? Are you from there or just over there for a while?

We left Canada about a year and a half ago; sick leave/retirement in Mexico sounded way nicer than staying in expensive, rainy Vancouver/ West coast of Canada :)

Thanks for the compliments and of course for stopping by @rebeccabe :)

great ... you guys have the right idea.. it is so expensive here too.

I've met quite a few expats here who needed to find a retirement place where their pensions went further than home. Where are you @rebeccabe?

My husband and I currently domicile in Nebraska. I am from Texas originally and he is from Indiana. We moved to different states over the 33 years of marriage together and are not sure where to land.

We have talked about going elsewhere, out of the country. Who knows maybe one day. I definitely want to travel some. Time goes so fast.

Oh I know that feeling! We are both originally from Ontario (Brian, Niagara Falls area and me just south of Detroit), but we spent most of our adult lives out West. We wandered for a while, trying to figure it all out, but eventually, the sun and ocean spoke louder than anything else :)

Time really does fly by, and the older I get, the quicker it seems to move!@

There I was, reading along, wicked enjoying your pictures. I started thinking how amazingly cool your place is, and daydreaming about how awesome it would be to live there.

And then...

via GIPHY

I hear you loud and clear haha Her face really says it all!! :)

The snakes are gone now. The guy said they'd hang around (no pun intended) for a couple days, and then make their way to another field somewhere. Thankfully they were babies or I totally would have lost it. He said that in the big fields where they get the grass, there are some full grown monsters slithering around in there.

Not enough money in the world...

hahaha that's it exactly ! :)

That looks like a very relaxing place to stay at. I would imagine if I built one I would just stay there in that place just to enjoy and relax. Thank you so much for sharing this with us!

I would just stay there in that place just to enjoy and relax.

I do :) Seriously, some days it's hard to drag myself anywhere; Brian always says, you know, there's a whole other world outside these walls haha, but some days, I just don't care to see any other place! :)

Thank you so much @blanchy :)

That looks fantastic!!! BUT I'm with you on the snakes. I would have been a mess.

Thank you @byn! I feel very fortunate to be here; everyday I'm thankful for it all.

...except the snakes :) They are all gone now too. The worker said they'd only hang around for a few days :)

Beautiful view! It is amazing what these handymen can do with grass or palm leaves. Nice job! Snakes I don't care for but we do get them occasionally falling from the rancho roof. Usually, they are non-venomous but we have had one coral since we moved here 12 years ago.

I still find myself staring up at the way it's all tied together, amazed at the workmanship!

A coral! Yikes. I'm not a fan of any snakes, but that would have been frightening!!

YAY I am glad to see your palapa all fixed and even have a new small one as well! It looks very cozy now :) I have seen a program on how they fix these stuff especially those with hay as the roof, not that easy but your repairman sure is a pro! Nice of your landlord to want to do that for you <3 Geez on the snake though. I am sure now this may be your favorite relaxing space and for some air.

Haven't caught up with you in a while. How are you, @lynncoyle1? Sending love to you and Brian <3

awww thank you @happycrazycon! It is such a relaxing place to hang out and watching him repair it was pretty cool too. We totally got lucky with this landlord, and of course the whole apartment :) Yeah, the snakes were a bit much, but thankfully, we haven't seen any after the first couple of days; between Buddy, and no grass for them, they've moved on :)

I'm doing well, thank you! Brian is doing pretty good too; good days and bad ones, but now he's got a great space to relax in when we are home. How are you doing? The days and weeks just seem to get away on us here I think! <3

Looks so peaceful @lynncoyle1. So awesome of your landlord to sort it out for you.

Thank you @jusipassetti! We really did luck out with this landlord; he's an awesome guy, speaks English as well as Spanish, spent a lot of years in the States, and really is just a nice guy :)

It's a very peaceful place for sure; my stress just melts away when I'm out there!

howdy there lynncoyle1! remember me, I'm from Texas. I know it's been awhile with you being gone and all. lol.
What a fascinating repair job! I bet there ain't no one on here who's had a grass roof so this was very informative and educational as well as just plain cool! and that view?? forgetta bout it!

I'm sorry sir, but I believe you've got me mistaken for someone else :)

It was very fascinating to see the guy work at it and we since had a very heavy rain, the kind that comes down sideways in sheets, and underneath the palapa ... bone dry :) SO cool! And yes, the view is wonderful!

hahaha! I told you why I'm forced to be nice. :) unfortunately because I thought of some great things to say! lol. But anyway is the view at night really cool too? What's that like? The whole things is kinda making me jealous. Especially with you sitting there having ice cold beers!

There's not much of a view at night, but if it's clear skies, we can see the island of Cozumel all lit up :) Just the warm glow of the coconut lights lit up is plenty for me, and of course it all looks extraordinary with a cold beer or two as well :)

hahaha! yes Ma'am a cold beer or two makes everything look better!
Well I was hoping the view at night would be great, why isn't it, not enough lights out in that part of town?

The island across the ocean is very small(not many lights at night), and our patio is higher than most places around us, and we can't really see them from our chairs ... it's kind of nice though because it seems like just us and the tree tops and the sky :)

ok well I guess that would be acceptable. Especially if you could go to the edge of the roof and see lights right?
Hey remember that post about the luffas where I was giving you a hard time? A guy came on there and asked me if I was just joking because he said it was so harsh! lol

That's why I can't tease you on your posts unless it's like day 6 or something.

I loved reading this and all your photos, @lynncoyle1

I popped over here to see how things were going with you and I am happy to see that you are just working on creating paradise ;)

What a beautiful space! I enjoy learning about handmade craftsmanship - this is truly interesting.

And that bird! How sweet is that! Now you need a feeder ;)

Have a beautiful day!

Hi @youhavewings! Awesome to see you here :) "Creating paradise" is so true; we feel truly blessed to have such a space to live in!

We happened to see the baby take his virgin flight today, while Buddy was going completely insane underneath it, and the poor mom was frantically watching from the sidelines :) It was really funny actually; I'm thinking Buddy's neck will soon be stiff for all the upward looking he's doing! We'll have to keep him inside when we see the little guy is ready for a longer flight :)

Have a beautiful day too!

I am just so happy for you living in such a beautiful space with a really nice landlord. I know that must feel really wonderful - home.

That is so cool that you got to see the baby's first flight. I wonder if they stay in one area or migrate to other areas? What a great space for Buddy, too! I'm sure he's enjoying his cat work.

They tend to stick around; I remember at our old place here, the baby and parents must have lived nearby! The little guy today made it to a light post on the street; he's all primped, chest out, very proud of himself today haha

Buddy loves this space too!

Thank you so much :)

That is the cutest, @lynncoyle1 awwww
