What Happens #2 : When we have sex !!!

in #life7 years ago (edited)

Sex !! I am sure we all have done it at some point in our life and I am guessing most of us have also enjoyed it, if not then I guess you are doing it wrong :P . It is known that having sex has various good effects on your health besides increasing the intimacy level between you and your partner. Some of the benefits of having regular sex are that

  • it helps in looking younger, as much as five to seven years younger
  • it helps fight off diseases by increasing the amount of immunoglobulin A in your body
  • it helps in lengthening your lifespan
  • prevents heart attacks
  • gives you a healthy glow as it is an aerobic form of exercise.

These are just some of the benefits of having sex but all this is very common knowledge but did you ever stop to think that there might be some changes that happen in your body, apart from the obvious ones during the complete session of sex. I think many of you might not have thought about this, and I can't blame you for that cause when its so much fun in doing it then why waste time in thinking. But since many of you right now will not be 'doing it' at this moment (I hope), at least not while you are on Steemit. So you can learn a thing or two and who knows that by knowing these facts might help you in enjoying the act more.

So without wasting too much time lets get started,

The sexual response cycle can be classified into four phases :

  1. Excitation
  2. Plateau
  3. Orgasm
  4. Resolution

Excitation

This is an initial state of arousal which begins a minute after erotic stimulation and may be can last for quite a while depending on the mood you and your partner are in. During this phase a chemical called as Serotonin is released. Serotonin can be described as a neurotransmitter that can make you feel happy, very happy. It is a less intense neurotransmitter than Dopamine but has a very strong effect on your behaviour.

When you get excited the pupils dilate which is a sign that your autonomic nervous system is working overtime. At the same time another chemical, Adrenaline is released which causes your heart rate to rise, the blood rushes to the genitals and for women their clitoris swells and sometimes even the size of breasts can increase by upto 25%(isn't that a cause for celebration in itself??). While in men their penis starts becoming erect and they experience the tightening of the scrotum and discharge of the lubrication liquid.

Plateau

This phase is the continuation of the first phase and so your heart rate, breathing, the tension in your muscles and also the blood pressure keeps on increasing. A chemical calledd Norepinephrine is released which causes exhilaration and increases the energy in your body.

Whatever stimulation the body goes through under the influence of this chemical is etched into the brain. This is the reason why people in love remember even the intricate details of each other. Also during this phase the sensitivity increases in your special areas and so the muscles in feet, thighs, hips hands and face begin to spasm.

Orgasm

This is the third phase of the cycle and is often the shortest of the four phases which usually lasts for a few seconds. The Oxytocin hormone or as it is also called the love hormone is at its zenith at the time of orgasm.

Oxytocin is said to help build trust and closeness in couples. The pelvic muscles contract and there are rhythmic contractions in the woman's uterus and the base of the man's penis. All the tension which was building up in the muscles in the first two phases is released involuntarily at once in the form of intense pleasure.

Resolution

The final phase of the cycle and can last upto thirty minutes or longer. It leads to decrease in sexual arousal and the contractions which were rhythmic till now subsides. Men enter into a refractory period in which it is almost impossible to orgasm again until a certain time has passed. On the other hand some women may be able to return to the orgasm phase on additional stimulation.

I hope you enjoyed reading this post as much as I did in writing it. So now that you know the science behind sex so its time to get your freak on and have a Steemy session.
