Admit it, all of us occasionally have a social fumble. Making friends is something many people have a hard time with, and good social skills can help at the workplace, school, and home. Human beings are very communal creatures that enjoy each other's company, so use these helpful tips to make friends easier and maybe get ahead in your career.
- Talk More
While you shouldn't talk over other people, other's will probably appreciate someone who can help hold the conversation. Asking questions is a great way to do this. People love to share what they know and information about themselves. Asking questions tells the person you actually care about their lives and want to get to know them, which leads to them liking you more in the end.
- Listen and Pay Attention
A sure-fire way to make someone fond of you is to actually care about them and their part of the conversation. Remember what they say. Take time to listen carefully to their stories and comments, likable people take a moment to make sure the person feels like it's about them, and not you.
- Crack a Joke
It can be hard to hate someone who always tries to get their peers to laugh or smile. A joyful person is more fun to be around than someone who deadpans every word they say. You don't have to be a comedian, but always be ready to find the humor in something and laugh at even yourself.
- You Might Not Know It All after All
People tend to stay away from the overly-inflated ego type. Remember you don't know everything, and people will be easy going around you. This doesn't mean to demean yourself and act dumb, but admit your weaknesses and accept help while offering help to those around you.
- Be Flexible
Chinese or pizza? Pop or rock music? The final thing to keep in mind is that not everyone thinks alike. Don't push your opinions on friends and don't be afraid to let them choose, remember that you do not control the entire relationship and accept that sometimes you have to deal with that one guy and his obsession with Ariana Grande songs, or the occasional lunch at that restaurant you dislike. You might have habits and interests your friends put up with, so do yourself a favor and embrace theirs.
Great posts with tips I'll definetly use some time!
