Learn to say NO.

in #life5 years ago (edited)

The fear of being criticized and disliked is one of the major reasons people avoid saying the word NO. We have all been in situations where we felt we needed to please the people around us even at our very own cost. It's human nature to think you will be perceived as being selfish, unkind or uncaring when you say NO to people. But that's not the case, we can still be lovable when we do not agree to the requests from the people around us.

The mindset of not saying NO to people comes from a variety of factors, one of which is how we are raised. Many parents bring children up to only be good and take good care of everyone around them at all times. A child eventually grows into adulthood with her self-worth depending on the things she does for other people who start expecting her to always comply to their wishes.

We need to learn to say NO and do what’s right for ourselves sometimes in order to preserve the person we are. By getting clear on what we are not comfortable with, our confidence and self-esteem grows as people start respecting the decisions we make. This cuts across both men and women at workplaces, schools, homes and the various communities we live in.

There are many undesirable situations in our lives that will require us to listen to our innermost feelings and make it easier for us to say YES or NO to. Take time to listen to that innermost voice if it's a difficult decision so that you make the best choices that won't be regrettable in the future.
