When we make applications for a job we don't control the whims and tastes of the Human Resources personnel.
This one was a particular horrible barb in my life, and also the cause of me deciding in 2015 that I will no longer allow other people (over whom I have zero control) to make decisions that affect my livlihood. It was after my 4th interview at a "good" company, and the final rejection of me as an employee, that I began writing my first book. I wrote it on my phone while working a job.....long story short, it was a series of humiliations, rejections and self-esteem murderings that launched me on a path of self-discovery and a kind of carving out my own path, no matter what attitude. One must work twice as hard once freedom is involved.
The most shocking part of my HR experience was this:
The secretary had set up so many interviews with me, she had actually gotten to know me to a degree. When she found out that after my 4th interview at her company had led me to nowhere, and I had not been chosen, she called me up to apologize. She told me she personally knew the hiring manager, and said this young lady made terrible decisions. It became apparent that I wasn't hired because either she didn't find me "cool" "young" or "hip" enough to work with her. This was the beginning of the end of working for idiots.
Their loss, ours and your gain!
I once had an organization have the nerve to call me in multiple times for a job, get all the way to receiving an offer subsequent, then never heard from them (despite me contacting them to ask what the hell happened). Then later that year, their HR person referred me to another hiring manager for a different position, and even though I KNEW it would happen, I came in again for an interview for that position, got a second offer, and they also went radio silent after I accepted THAT position.
But I just chalked it up to dodging a bullet, twice. Any place that can't be professional dealing with their applicants in proportion to what they're asking from them in time, communication, and energy up to that point in the hiring process, is bound to be one that frustrates its own employees repeatedly with their stupidity as well.
TL;DR: some morons jerked me around in their hiring processes, which inadvertently led me to where I am now.
Glad you shared this. Thing is, so many people get caught up in the interview process they end up reflecting all the negative aspects on to themselves when in fact there is nothing wrong with them.
