Snowboarding in JUNE?

in #life6 years ago (edited)

Here in the world famous Canadian Rocky mountains, snow lasts til July if we are lucky. That gives us about 7-8 months of rideable snow if you go out of your way for it. What do you do when its half hot half cold? you go on a hike up a mountain and powder chase!

We started our journey with a 90 minute hike through boreal forest. There's grizzly bears out here! its wild country! we soon got to a section where we could see snow and decided that we would hike up it and strap in (no chairlifts here!)

When we got to the clearing with snow, we still had work to do. We had to traverse up 45 degree snow filled patches! with the altitude higher now it became quite cold. This is how the snow keeps frozen in the summer.

Cant say the conditions were the best, but using some ingenuity we decided to build a sweet jump :3
