Let’s talk marijuana facts! With cannabis legalization inching closer to reality all over the world, there will still be some misconceptions about the plant that needs to be addressed.

Today, we’ll be talking about a variety of marijuana facts that you should know to school those who might be opposed to legalization.

Marijuana Cannot Kill You!

One of the marijuana facts that everyone needs to know is that it is impossible to have a lethal overdose on marijuana.

Cannabis has never killed anyone due to consumption alone in the entire history of humanity. This is because cannabis does not affect the respiratory system unlike drugs such as Heroin for example. This means that you can consume as much as you want without ever risking a lethal overdose.

How much cannabis would it take to induce a lethal overdose? Roughly 1500 lbs in 15 minutes. An impossible feat!

Marijuana is Medicine

Some people believe that “medical marijuana” is nothing more than an excuse for people to smoke weed. The fact of the matter is that marijuana is medicine. The cannabinoids within the plant treat a wide range of illnesses from chronic pain, seizure disorders, and even cancer.

Does marijuana kill cancer?

THC and CBD both have anti-tumor properties. THC envelops cancer cells and shuts off the feeding mechanism of the tumor. This process is called Apoptosis.

Some people have completely cured their cancer using only THC Oil, while others have used it to mitigate the negative side effects of chemotherapy.

Legalizing Marijuana DOES NOT increase Teen Use

Many of the fears of legalization is that kids will smoke at higher rates. When looking at marijuana facts and statistics, you’ll quickly notice that despite legalization in several states, teen consumption rates remain pretty much the same.

In fact, in some of the place where we have seen legalization occurs, child consumption rates have actually declined. This is because coupled with legalization comes education.

A portion of all funds from legalization are aimed at educating children about marijuana. Under the prohibition model, the funds come from the taxpayers.

Marijuana use does not lead to using harder drugs

The supposed “Gateway Theory” has been debunked for many decades now. The idea that by consuming marijuana, the user will need a “higher fix” and eventually move onto stronger drugs.

Despite this being a popular myth, the statistics in drug use doesn’t correlate the statement. In fact, cannabis is the most consumed illicit drug in the world. In the U.S alone we have more than 50 million regular smokers. We don’t see the same amount of heroin or cocaine users…meaning that the correlation between the substances doesn’t match up.

If the Gateway theory was true, we’d see more people consuming drugs than ever, however the rates for drugs such as heroin, cocaine, meth…remain pretty much the same.

While we’re inching closer to marijuana legalization, it’s important to have your marijuana facts in hand. Many people will be talking negatively about the plant and it’s your job to show those naysayers what is what with facts and statistics.
