Minneapolis riots - Live streams

in #minneapolis4 years ago (edited)

Stuff's on fire, people are looting near the city's 3rd precinct. Update: Looting has spread to other parts of South Minneapolis.

This guy is the last live stream I can find. Currently shooting what is now the early aftermath, while on foot:

Screencap from Unicorn Riot's stream, what was a small fire at the construction site for some new apartments has turned into a huge fire. Firefighters are not responding. Shortly after I took this screenshot most of the structure collapsed.

Target being looted, taken earlier than the above video

Sort:

My old neighborhood. I’ve been to that Cub and Target many, many times. The 3rd Precinct has been trouble for a long time, with several past instances of excessive force. Although I can’t prove it, I suspect there’s been a history of corruption too. About 15 or maybe 20 years ago there was an illegal after-hours club less than two blocks from precinct headquarters that was brazenly in business for about six months before a shooting there led officers to “discover” it and shut it down.

Good lord. I do understand the anger that's been boiling in people's hearts over the persistent issue of racism and discrimation, but this is wrong way to go around it. All this destruction is rather pointless, and if anything, it'll probably detract from the sombre solidarity that we might have for the protesters in the first place.

Has the officer(s) responsible been put on trial yet? That should be the first step towards resolving much needed justice. In any case, I'm hoping to see this come to a peaceful end soon.

Trial is going to take a while. The rioting is due to the murdering officers not even being arrested or charged yet. I don't expect much peace, unless by extreme force, until then.

Much of the situation in South Minneapolis is due to the police opting to only defend their own precinct building, not even defending the Target directly across the street from them from looting and arson. Then, last night, they completely abandoned their precinct building and the neighborhood along with it. They're compounding the problem through their cowardice.

It's quite the shock with this happening around, and now the precinct building's on fire as I've last read. Pretty terrifying stuff, and I do worry for those innocent police officers who were just carrying out their duty as usual, while the bad apples sewed the seeds for discontent. More worryingly, the populace has even less protection against the protests, even for those who're just going about their day. Sad times.

I guess you have a problem with racism again.

Most in the US acknowledge racism is a persistent problem. It's not as overt as it used to be. But incidents where the police treat black people like lesser citizens, much like the incident which sparked this, remind us it's there.

Since it was a cop and not some random idiot like that lady in central park, I feel it is much worse, never mind the specific severity.

A lot of my friends are upset about it.

I've lived in a country where I'm a foreigner and a definite minority and it sucks when I face xenophobia (mostly small slights or textbook ignorance).

I can't imagine how people who cannot trust police (or worse fear them) in their home country feel.

Unfortunate event of people expressing their anger in a wrong way.

OMG What the hack is going on it looks like CS

Simply sad...

For context, this is what prompted the protests that on night 2 have turned into semi-chaotic looting and arson.
