A Contest for Everything Related to Welcoming New Users to the Steem Platform.
In Round #1 we asked users to submit the best how-to guides for new users. Today, we want to know which guides are hard to find or haven't been fully written, yet.
What subjects are hard to find information on via Google or asksteem.com?
What areas are not well represented in the Round #1 contest submissions?
Please submit your answers in the comments section!
For this round of the contest, only entries in English will be counted. There will be other rounds for guides in other languages
Thank you for participating. It takes a strong community to onboard "The Millions".
Two Ways to Win Prizes!
.500 Steem for each valid submision of either a guide that needs to be written, or an area which is not covered well, in general. We are not looking for a long paragraph.. Simply list the topics which need more attention, better documentation, and more clarity for the average user.
Win 1 Steem if you find a guide for the user looking for information on a subject that's not missing, they just didn't know where it was!
To be clear, you are either asking for information that you've had a hard time finding, or answering those users here in the comments section.
Currently I have 50 Steem Allocated for this round of the contest. Whatever prize fund is left over after awarding Round 1 will roll over onto this contest, in case there is a ton of helpful people in here!
Let's take a moment to thank our Sponsors, and Witnesses!!!!!

Hello @inquiringtimes, how are you? I hope you are pretty well right now. I am happy finding your current post on missing links.
For me the topic I want to read are:
How do we know the 25% rewards of our post shared to the curators of our post?
How to include our own videos without uploading them into DTube or Youtube?
What is the different between Country Curator and Steemian?
Why does the tag of NSFW must be hidden from the setting?
What is SMTs and how does it work?
Thanks for you and our Sponsor; @ReggaeMuffin
@Aggroed
@Ausbitbank
@Swelker101
Warmest regards from Indonesia.

Thanks for your help @ilyastarar. Regards
Great list of questions! I think I can answer a few that either were not answered or I don't think answered fully.
1 . If you go to any post that has paid out, in the address bar at the top, change "steemit" to "steemd" and it will take you to the steemd.com for that post. Just to the right of the post title on that page will be a button you can push that says "Advanced Mode" and it should be highlighted in blue. If you click that, it will give you various details of the post, including how much the post paid out, how much was paid to the author and how much was paid to curators. As well as many other interesting things like who upvoted what comments, who resteemed the post, and a few other cool things like that.
2 . To my knowledge there is currently no way to upload a video to Steemit without using Dtube or Youtube. I think those are the only options currently available.
4 . The tag "NSFW" Stands for "Not Safe For Work", and is hidden from view (unless you click it or change the option in your user settings) in case people are scrolling Steemit in a public place, like a library computer or an internet cafe or some such and don't want to offend those around them, or some people just don't want to see that kind of stuff at all.
I hope these answers help. I am unsure of the answers for questions 3 and 5.
Thank you very much for your answer my friend. I read them all because they are useful for me.
I am very proud to be the nation of Indonesia, may you the best.
I am like you and orther steemians as well. We will be rich because of steemit. Keep fighting my friend. Thanks a lot.
Good luck brother @bahagia-arbi
Thanks my friend.
Everything is an interesting topic @bahagia-arbi. However, specifically for number 4, I think it's very clear that adult content should be tagged NSFW.
You are correct Bang @ayijufridar. Thanks for your vote and comment.
You welcome @bahagia-arbi
Do I need to list the things on a post or enlist them here on comments?
Right here in the comments is fine :)
Here are some of the things I have been willing to know about Steemit but haven't found reliable answers yet. These are simple yet may be the questions that may arise in most of the newbies on Steemit.
Let me see if I can answer some of your questions!

@hornblende
Thanks @hornblende :)
You are welcome... Hope the post is detailed enough.
That are great topics! They need detailed and technical information.
In beginning I won't able to find proper details about
-> Vests
Yeah, good question. Here is a plain English description. https://steemit.com/steem-help/@hisnameisolllie/what-are-vests
How to use bots and how many ways to cash out besides Bitcoin ?
Which bots do you want to know how to use?
Cashing out may be accomplished by sending your STEEM or SBD to supported exchanges such as Bittrex, however, you may use blocktrades.us to easily convert STEEM and SBD to several other coins!
I want to use minnowhelper, qurator, but there is no proper way to learn using them, I am a noob, I admit that.
No problem. That's why we're here! We'll get your questions sorted out.
I'm not personally familiar with minnowhelper, however when you go to their profile on Steemit, you can read the description in the header. It says to refer to the blog for instructions. There's a link to their blog in the header as well. I followed the link and in a few clicks, I arrived at the terms and conditions for their service, which includes instructions!
As for Qurator, I'm a member over there, so I'm pretty familiar with how it works. First, you'll need to visit their profile on Steemit, and in each of their Daily Qurator posts, there are instructions on how to join and how the voting tiers work. You can also join their Discord server (link in the Daily Qurator) and talk to the people there to find out more information.
Most of the time you can find posts that detail how to use the services on Steemit. It just takes a bit of digging!
Let me know if you have any other questions.
Thank you so much for your help ! I read the basic tier for qurator, and I am willing to pay 2 steem for lifetime membership, but I don't know what to write in a memo, can you help me out ?
Sure! Just check the wallet transfers for the account, and you'll see what other Steemians have done to register. It looks like you just put your username in the memo, they review your account, and then let you know if you're approved!
Got it, I will have to request them to verify my account, if they think my work is quality work, then they will approve me as a member.
I think a simple tutorial on the Interface might be useful.
STEEMIT is trying to attract the general public. Therefore we could do with some visual cues on features of the Interface. Believe it or not I couldn't find how to reply the first time I wanted to comment. Maybe I was distracted by the $$$$
Also, when posting the default is markup language, and it takes time to figure out how to get into the WYSIWYG editor instead. Fortunately, I'm a nerd, but also found this a little confusing.
It's just these small things that'll improve the End User Experience.
'Start Here' or a Tutorial option is pretty standard on most interfaces these days.
BTW: Great Initiative!
I got one for you.... How the average steemian can contribute by setting up a seed node.... Can't really find out exact specs needed...

Am actually a newbie @steemit at first I had problem and difficulty on how to upload video on Steemit .
Secondly up till now I still don't understand the exchange rate on how to go about bitcoin and stemd
NB: It will automatically post the Video in a Steemit blog post too.
hello @inquiringtimes I've been searching, see from the results that I can theme below may not have detailed post about this theme. following titles that may not yet exist for the new steemian guide:
thank you and nice contest
Let me try to answer these for you.
Good day @inquiringtimes, I am happy to participate in this contest.
I think almost everything in the discussion almost complete, there are only a few who have not discuss.
Here is something rarely discussed and rarely found google:
About how to upload videos in steemit.
How to include the right source, because sometimes there is a source but the cheetah keeps logging in.
How to remove posts that are sometimes wrong posting.
If in the post there is some discussion, then which tag is more appropriate in the first.
How many posts should be made each day by steemit users.
Just a few discussions according to my rare analysis, thanks for your support.
Let me see,
1 . I believe the only options are Dtube and Youtube for uploading videos. You have to upload your video to one of those services and then link the video location in your Steemit post.
2 . Try to use hyperlinks for your sources and reference what it is you are sourcing. Also, if you are quoting someone, try to use "blockquotes"
"Blockquotes" indicate that you are quoting someone else and might help keep cheetah off your back. You can learn both hyperlinks and blockquotes (as well as a bunch of other handy stuff) by checking out this post Polish Your Posts by my friend @ethandsmith.
3 . I do not believe you can "remove wrong postings". Once you post something on Steemit, it is there forever. If you don't want something seen later down the road, don't post it. The only real option is just make 100% sure that you want people to be able to see what you are sharing before you hit post, because once you hit post, it is permenant.
4 . The first tag of your post should be the tag that is the most relevant to your post. So the one topic that you discuss the most in your post. Keep in mind that the first tag of a post is the tag that gets the most visibility and will in essence "sum up" your post with the one tag. Make sure that if you are posting pictures of your camping trip or opening presents Christmas morning that you aren't tagging your post with "Bitcoin" or "Fiction". Make sure that your first tag is the most relevant to your post.
5 . You will get a different answer from every different person you ask that question. The only real answer to that question is another question. "How many times do you want to post in a day". Honestly you can post as many times as you have the bandwidth to post (someone answered what "bandwidth" is and does on steemit somewhere in the comments of this post) but keep in mind, is what you are posting about relevant? Is what you are planning about posting something that other people want to read? Are you talking about creating several different posts about interesting topics that will spark conversations among your readers, or are you talking about creating short little crap posts like "Hey, I had a grilled cheese for lunch, upvote my post". I say, if you have a quality subject to post about, post as much as you want, but if you are just going to post garbage or spammy posts, then don't bother to post at all. I know that doesn't really answer your question 5, but those are my observations on "how many times should people post in a day".
I hope these answers help.
Let me see if I can help.
1 . Uploading a gif to steemit is fairly simple. You just need the link to where the gif is already on the internet. for example, I use "giphy", on the website, you can select to "share gif". Where it says "gif link" you want to highlight the contents of that box. Cutting that and pasting it into a steemit post will show the desired gif.
For example
h ttps://media.giphy.com/media/3oz8xSOxnqbONxOCoU/giphy.gif
(I broke up the web address by putting a space in between the "h" and "t" of "https" so you could see it)
As a new user, I am very much interested in building my posting revenue as well as curation. I went around trying to select good post for curation and yet to see much update on my profits when I see my own profile. I did see lots of youtube videos about how to do curation for steemit. I hope to get the most effective way and the fastest way to grow in steem power and steem beside buying them.
If you want to succeed on Steemit without buying a lot of Steempower from your own wallet, you really need to work hard on your blog. Creating interesting posts that engage users and make them want to read your next post. And stick to it. You may create some of the best work Steemit has ever seen and make very little post rewards when you are just starting out. It takes some time before you get noticed. For just starting out on the platform, I have two posts that I suggest you read. One is by @ethandsmith and it is tips and advice on how to polish your posts. It is linked HERE! And the other post that I suggest reading is by @ogochukwu, and it is about leaving meaningful comments on other peoples posts as a way of getting to know people and get your name out there. Not just go to other peoples posts and say "hey, go upvote me", but actually engaging with other users. His post is linked HERE!
I have been asking a ton of questions on discord and have more still.
-the difference betweeen steem and sbd
-i tried to send sbd and steem to other accounts last night and was told i wasn't above the minimum amount, but i was above the minimum amount listed
-as of now I don't have any curation rewards, but i have been upvoting a lot and trying to be strrategic about it. Overall curation is confusing.
-delegation is confusing as hell. I don't understand how delegating would help me, or if it's like placing your bet on someone else to pick your stocks?
-how does steem link up with dtube? I don't know know if i use the same steem id or if i need a whole new account
-reporting and how to get rewarded by steemcleaners, like when to flag and when not to flag spam and sposts.
feature request: I want to be able to list my own selection of keywords on the left of my screen, not have generic ones.
I hope this helps, this is a lot more confusing than what it took to learn, say reddoot or forkbook.
which accounts were you trying to send steem/sbd to and for what purpose? Those things make a difference as to how to answer that question.
Curation is confusing, I fully agree. I don't have all of the information to fully answer the technical parts of this question, but I think I can help a little. Curation rewards are granted to the people who upvote a post, and the amount they receive is based on several different factors (that is the technical part I don't have 100% of the answer for). But as I understand it, it is based on the age of the post when you upvote it and how much Steempower you upvote the post with. At the most, curation rewards are 25% of post payout, and your curation reward would be based off of how much reward your vote gave to the post. If your voting weight is so low that you do not add any value to the post with your vote, you will probably not see a lot of curation rewards. When you start to accumulate more Steempower, you will see more curation rewards from the posts you upvote.
I would absolutely love to see a "Customizable Topics List". Fantastic suggestion!
i learned some things! turns out you have to send at least 1, so .5 throws a rather undescriptive/misleading error that could be fixed! But then I had success and it is cool.
i still haven't gotten any curation and i've been trying to have this upvoting strategy, every day, my favorite stuff, people I like. entering contests oh well. things take time. we all kindof have that feeling we wish we could move steemit faster probably but nothing great can be done overnight.
so now we have 2 new features to promote. but where?
Hey there @mindhawk.
Your query about curation rewards is one that many new Steemians have.
I do have some good news, though. It looks like you have been earning some small curation rewards along the way! You can check on your curation rewards by visiting SteemNow and looking at the section about curation rewards.
The unfortunate part is that since your STEEM power is low, it will be a while before you notice significant curation rewards. Curation rewards depend on the STEEM power of the accounts which vote on a post. Therefore, you should continue what you're doing and focus on growing your account, networking with others, and building up some followers. As your account grows and you continue to vote, the curation rewards will follow!
I hope this helps.
A guide that needs to be written should be about plagiarism on steemit
Agreed. What it is, why you shouldn't do it, and what will happen to you if you do it on Steemit! Great submission!
I think these question are always asked by new users. Because I see many of them struggle and upvote posts all the day without knowing that they are loosing their upvote power.
I hope these answers help
It was very informative. Thank you! I will check them out :)
This is a fantastic effort, Steemian!
Making new people feel welcome is the key to building inspiration and moral. Keep up the great work!
That's a cute picture <3
Thank you!
Your kind words make my heart swell!
Thanks for being such a great guide for beginners like me, I am going to visit your Blog constantly to learn from you. I was wondering What Topics on this Platform are not allowed to write down here.
Aggroed's post "I'm New Here. Can you explain Steemit to me like I am 5" is wonderful. I would like to see more in that style. I still struggle with some basics like : How much Steem Power do I need for my votes to matter ? Wait, Why is there both SBD and Steem, again? (I swear I understand it and then i realize I dont!).
Steem Power: More guides about this should break down how much Stem power you need to increase your voting power. That was super mysterious until I asked in a chat. For example it was explained that to be able to have .02 cents of voting power i need $200 SP. That would help newbies decide better when to power up, I think? I have read a bunch of posts about how/why to power up but a lot of them were a year old. Also in a practical sense: When you go into Bitrex to power up its not intuitive information for first time users. The Market is totally confusing to me, i still dont get it. The guides I have found skip over some steps (they just take for granted that many of the terms are more familiar to the reader).
Visuals:
One way to really help the super new minnows would be guides with lots of screen shots and visuals that have arrows pointing at exact spots referenced in the text. Or videos, Kahn Academy style?
Cirriculum/study guide/ daily readings
It would be REALLY cool if new users to Steemit were given optional access to a series of guides like a cirriculum in a certain order, like :Day One: read these and watch this video. Day two: Do this. Day three: Do that. There is definitely this sensation of learning Steemit like peeling off layers of an onion. Instead of relying on good search term skills, it would be awesome to get sent on a particular path for the first couple weeks. You could even have people earn a badge or something when they complete all of it, or something fun like that.
That being said, the maze-like quality is actually also part of the appeal for me. There is so much discovery and learning here. So, i hope it never gets TOO easy. :)
Would be happy to give further feedback if any of this sounds interesting or if you need clarification! Thanks!
Make me winner i am new
One of the ways to win is to ask questions about what you can't find information on after searching for the answer, and not finding
I like
Wow this is cool . Didn't knew about this contest
Thanks for nice information!
good contest and follow now
That's the essence of life. Growing and seeing to it that you are not alone in the process, you are pushing peeps along with you. Nice one.
Please kindly follow back thanks. @inquiringtimes
I would have upvoted this comment, but asking for a follow in the comments section of someone elses article is considered poor etiquette. People will follow you if you engage them in comments, or if they like your content, not if you ask them for a follow.
I am really sorry, holy and solemnly am. I beg you pardon my manners just felt it was ok to you know ask for a follow back. And like @hilaryoki rightly pointed out am still new here, trying to find my way around. you know some do it better than others. And @gogogadgetupvote noted. Am sorry, lesson learnt and big thank you. @inquiringtimes . With love.
No worries. Steemit isn't centralized, so I'm just doing my little part by sharing that info with you <3
Thanks alot. You have a place in my heart already.
Hmmm.....at this stage I feel the urge to add my own observation by commenting on this timely reply to @ponpun
I think newbies should be given properly written steemit etiquette. Stemit etiquettes aren't usally part of the orientations given to new invites on joining steemit. Permit me to admit that I was quilty of this at the early stage in the commumity. But I realized that the more I beg for followers the lesser followers I was getting in return. Same goes with begging for upvotes.
So, I would suggest we have well written steemit etiquettes in one piece for newbies.
I second this notion. I have a post here that has some very good "commenting etiquette" if you care to check it out. The post is by @ogochukwu and it is linked HERE!
There is an ettiquete guide as well as a lot of other helpful information at steemit.com/welcome where new users are taken when they first join. However, there is a lot to take in there, and not everyone reads it all... So... There is no simple answer. I and others have written guides, but we are still figuring out the best way to share this info with new users. I would have been remiss if I did not tell our new friend that asking for follows is not good etiquette
I have a post here that has some very good "commenting etiquette" . The post is by @ogochukwu and it is linked HERE!
This post has received a 6.96 % upvote from @buildawhale thanks to: @inquiringtimes. Send at least 1 SBD to @buildawhale with a post link in the memo field for a portion of the next vote.
To support our daily curation initiative, please vote on my owner, @themarkymark, as a Steem Witness
Fantastic
Nice detail informative
Congratulations @inquiringtimes, this post is the fifth most rewarded post (based on pending payouts) in the last 12 hours written by a Superuser account holder (accounts that hold between 1 and 10 Mega Vests). The total number of posts by Superuser account holders during this period was 1139 and the total pending payments to posts in this category was $5557.56. To see the full list of highest paid posts across all accounts categories, click here.
If you do not wish to receive these messages in future, please reply stop to this comment.
I welcome and this is fun.
whether the contest is like a Tutorial for beginners in Steemit? if 'yes' me
may come, this is an opportunity to share and get a plus for SP. hahah
Thank you @inquiringtimes
All you need to do is comment what you don't understand about steemit or have a hard time finding information about.
Oke. Thanks
I hope this will help new users get a hang of steemit. I'm still trying to find my way around here
one thing that is very difficult to understand. who is the curator? They are very difficult to come to our post. or can we become our own curator and hire power steam for 4 weeks? Is this effective for our small fish? please input for me ... thanks @inquiringtimes
my impression is that you do not understand english very well, and you do not seem to put tons of effort into your posts. Curators are looking for quality content. If you know a different language better than english, maybe best to get more involved in that community, and you need to spend a lot more effort into making High Quality Posts. leasing steempower is not an effective way to grow for a small fish, because mostly you vote on other people, not just yourself.
this input is valuable to me thank you input.
thank you motivation
I will try for it. @inquiringtimes thanks very much

15 problems to solve on Steemit
After feeling very uncomfortable using Steemit, I have written a post venting out my anger. Please have a look at it, if you are interested : https://steemit.com/steemit/@arcrypto/stemmit-is-a-trap
8-10. Steemit is beta, as in, being developed, and we are getting an opportunity to test it out. Be grateful
11 . The blockchain can not tell the difference between a bot and a human, and the bots often perform useful tasks.
Nothing in life is fair (didn't your mom tell you that?)
Steemit is confusing because it's cutting edge technology, not for the faint of spirit.
There are as many ways to Grow on Steemit as there are people. Try this guide I wrote:

I didn't really want to respond to this comment, because it's a bunch of whining and complaining. But I did. I'm not getting paid to do this. I just did it to be nice. but now I'm pretty irritated. I'm not going to "check out your article" because you've been here for 4 dfays, and all you want to do is complain, instead of learn how to use the site, like everyone else who is now successful did.

I am having trouble navigating the site. Finding a full list of tags, where do we report bugs and get support. Knowing what the bots are and what to trust. Dtube wont work for me so what do I do for help, is there a notification system? Where? How do we get spellcheck on blogs. I'll be back with more...
The last three times I logged on it adds a post to number of posts by me, but I havent added any posts. It now says 42, but I only have 25? Is this a documented issue?
I see now, comments are counted as posts.
I will recommend that you add more content to your posts... a picture and a few words isn't worth much around here, especially since no one knows for sure if you actually took those pics. Search what a verification picture on steemit is, you will make more money that way, and also to make more content about the context of those images. <3
Thank you, yes a verification picture and introduceyourself post needs to be done. I will also put more effort into content.
Hey there @irastra.
I think it's a great idea to put all of the curation groups in one place. Certainly that's an initiative that you might consider doing yourself!
I also had the issue of applying for Streemian with a typo in my email address. There's nothing you can do. Their support leaves much to be desired and has not responded to my query. Therefore, if you want to be able to trail other accounts, you have a couple of options. (a) Sign up at SteemAuto, a similar service created by witness @mahdiyari. It can offer similar functions as Streemian. (b) Set up your own curation trailing bots on a local machine! This is the solution I used for my account. I decided to use some bots created by @inertia, and I did a tutorial post series about how to set one up!. I hope that someday Streemian will fix the issue with their sign up process, but until then, I wish you the best in finding an alternative.
As far as I know, your username cannot be changed once you've registered it.
I hope this helps! Let me know if you have further questions!
Thanks for explaining, I'll take the time to look into it ... and try to understand...looks like the time has come that I should become more tech savvy.
You're very welcome! If you have any questions, let me know.
It’s great dear ...can you tell me how I can make money in this app please
