In the world of today, a lot of people are busy chasing big things, big moments, career breakthrough, financial success, and other massive opportunities. All these are good, no doubt, but some people actually forget that true joy does not only reside in these big things but even in the little things that are often overlooked. Everyday you live, you are already surrounded by blessings. When you look beyond what may be happening and focus on the blessings around you, you will stay motivated and at peace. Even life itself - that you slept and woke up may look easy, but it is a very underrated blessing. When we look well, we will observe that we are actually surrounded by blessings.

Learning to count the little things of life will make you to see how blessed you are, and will also increase your joy. Instead of looking at what is not working, it will do you a lot of good to focus of what is actually working. The human mind is naturally tilted towards the side of life that seems to be falling short of expectation. 99 good things may happen, and may not even catch your attention. But the 1 not-so-good thing that happens will be where your whole attention will be drawn to, and forgetting the other 99. This is why so many people are feeling as if life is unfair to them and their happiness is affected negatively. You have to focus more on the positive side that will show you how blessed you are. If your mind wants to show you what is not working, respond by showing it what is working.
There are many things to consider as a blessing that are often overlooked. Imagine the gift of good friends. Having someone to give you a shoulder to lean on, someone who has your back, who makes you feel belonged, is a very big blessing. Think about other things - the dawning of the day, the gift of family, the smile from a loved one, the breath in your nostrils, the food you eat, the good health, a lot of other things. Trust me, where you are now may look small in your eyes, but it is actually someone else's wish. There is no blessing that is too little or insignificant to be recognised and to be counted. What you see as insignificant may be what someone else may be hoping all their life for. When you start to count your numerous blessings, you will see that life is worth living.
What you need to understand is that happiness is not a destination, rather it is a function of daily choices. If you choose to focus on the good sides of life, you will see reasons to be happy. But if you choose to only wait for a "big blessing" before you will be happy, you will live your whole life thinking that you are not making progress at all. When you embrace the little things of life - like kind words from a friend, moment of rest, good health, etc, you will begin to see life as abundant. This perceptive is what will create resilience within you, which keeps you going even in tough times, and makes you to see life as worth living.

One of the things that I have observed is that these little things of life can create ripple effects of something amazing. For example, when you smile to someone, they are also more likely to smile back. The happiness you have created in them can also be subconsciously passed on to others, thereby creating a ripple effect. This is why I believe that some of the little things that a lot of people leave out are actually what leave the greatest impact in the lives of people. Daily blessings are part of what give meaning to life.
No matter how rough the situation facing you is, you can still see the good side that can give you hope. Someone who is hopeful and optimistic will always see the good side even in the darkest of situations. On the other hand, a pessimist will always see darkness even in the brightness light. What you see is a true reflection of who you really are. So each day you wake up, make it a point of duty to count your blessings, and you will be surprised how beautiful life can be.
