DON’T BE FRUSTRATED, BE MOTIVATED!

in #motivation7 years ago

As we go through life we inevitably face some difficult times and circumstances. These circumstances have the potential to take the wind out of our sails and rob us of our joy if we let them. Unfortunately, this is what happens all too often. This does not have to happen to you though, at least not anymore. You need to realise that it's not what happens to you that is important, rather its how you react to what happens to you that makes the difference. When something happens, the only thing in your power is your attitude toward it.

SAME SITUATION, DIFFERENT REACTIONS

To illustrate this point lets suppose you hate your job and you have a boss who is difficult to work with. He does not appreciate your efforts and always finds fault in everything you do. As if that’s not enough, you work long hours and the salary you get is pitiful. You can react to this situation in one of two ways; you let this situation frustrate or motivate you.

RESPONSE #1 Frustration

This response usually occurs unconsciously. When you get frustrated you surrender your power to the circumstances and you play victim. Under such circumstances its easy to resort to complaining and gossiping about your boss as a way of taking you frustrations out on him. Every hurtful remark from your boss will be like a jab to your heart adding to your frustrations. You will feel trapped and suffocated and you will loathe your job and your boss. You will feel pity for yourself and you will see the future as hopeless. You will use your free time to get entertained so that you can take your mind off the stressful situation, albeit for a few hours at the most.

RESPONSE #2 Motivation

You can make a conscious and deliberate decision to make these circumstances motivate you. You will use your bosses insults to ignite and fan the fires of your passion for a better life. You will choose to take action to make sure that you won't let these circumstances persist indefinitely. For example, you can choose to forgo certain luxuries and save money to start your own business. A discourteous remark from your boss wont make you cringe rather it will strengthen your resolve to take progressive action. Instead of getting entertained in your free time you choose to improve yourself so that you can create the circumstance you want. Your paycheck will be motivation to put in the long nights needed to work on your business or education. With such a mindset you can look to the future with expectation and not apprehension.

THE EFFECT OF MINDSET

Realise that the present circumstances have not changed in either case. It's justyour mindset that has changed and the differences are stark. Think about this the next time you are in a situation that would normally frustrate you. Choose to make the best out of the situation by using your energy positively. Imagine the joy you will feel after your circumstances have changed due to the consistent and deliberate actions you would have take!. Instead of playing victim and blaming your boss, the economy, your spouse etc you must take responsibility for your actions and work towards creating the circumstances you want.

CONCLUSION
I hope I have made you see the power that a simple change in mindset can have in your life. From the two responses above which one would you prefer? Which mindset will most likely give you better circumstances in the future?

HAVE A PRODUCTIVE WEEK AHEAD!
