Top Three of my Favorite Romantic Movies

1. The Kissing Booth.
   The Kissing Booth is a 2018 American romantic comedy film directed by Vince Marcello, based on the novel of the same name by Beth Reekles. It stars Molly Ringwald, Joey King, Jacob Elordi and Joel Courtney. The film was released on May 11, 2018 on Netflix.

Synopsis.

Born on the same day and time in the same hospital, Elle Evans (Joey King) and Lee Flynn (Joel Courtney) have been best friends all their lives. To protect their special relationship, the pair created a set of friendship rules they are sworn to follow including #9: relatives totally off limits, especially Lee's bad boy older brother Noah (Jacob Elordi).

On the first day of school Elle’s pants rip forcing her to go to school wearing a skirt that is too small. Tuppen, another student, touches her which almost gets Lee into a fight but Noah intervenes. Elle, having violated the dress code, has to serve detention with Noah and Tuppen. Tuppen later apologizes to Elle. She later agrees to go out with him however she is stood up. He goes to see her later that night to let her know that he was threatened by Noah not to go out with her.

Elle and Lee have to create a booth for the school carnival and decide on a kissing booth. The two have difficulty finding people to participate but get a group of popular girls called the OMG’s (Olivia, Mia, and Gwyneth) to participate by lying to them saying that Noah likes one of them and will go if they go.

That night, the kissing booth is a success. However, girls including the OMG’s become angry when they discover that Noah is not actually working the kissing booth. For payback, the girls send Elle up to the booth to kiss a nerdy kid while blindfolded. The boy switches with Noah having him next in line to kiss Elle. When Elle won’t stop talking Noah kisses her, not knowing who it is she takes off her blindfold and Noah goes in for a second kiss. After cleaning up Elle sees Noah flirting with another girl so she runs home while Noah looks at her. While on her way home it starts to rain and Noah offers her a ride on his motorcycle. However, the rain gets too heavy and they have to stop. Elle kisses Noah again and he pulls away. After staring at each other Noah goes in for another kiss. Elle ends up pulling away, telling him she can’t be another one of his conquests. He looks hurt but tells Elle why he likes her. They kiss again but are interrupted by a security guard who recognizes Noah and tells him to stop bringing girls there. Elle gets upset that Noah brought her to the place where he brings his other girlfriends and leaves.

The next day while at a party Elle is harassed by another student and Noah almost starts a fight with him. This causes her to storm off but Noah requests her to get in his car. Instead of going home he takes her to the Hollywood Sign and they talk about their relationship. They both admit to liking each other and decide to come up with rules for their relationship, one being that Lee never finds out. The two kiss and end up having sex.

Elle and Noah start to see each other secretly and are careful that Lee or anyone else don't find out. While in Noah’s room his mom almost walks in on them and Elle has to hide. While hiding she overhears her say that he had been accepted to an Ivy League school. Soon after he reveals to her that he is going to Harvard and she starts to realize that he won’t be around next year. One day while hanging out with Noah, Lee walks in on him tending to a cut on her face. He become suspicious and asks Elle if it was Noah who hurt her. This infuriates Noah and they are about to get involved in a fight, but Elle stops them and takes Lee away. Lee asks her is there is something going on between the two of them, to which she denies. She ends up feeling guilty about lying to Lee and goes back to Noah and tells him that they need to come clean that night and when Noah agrees he says that way he can take her to prom. They kiss but Lee ends up seeing it. Hurt, Lee attempts to leave his house but Elle tries to get him to talk before Noah intervenes and eventually get into a fight. After backing off, Lee leaves and Elle tells Noah to leave her alone.

Lee starts giving Elle the silent treatment and Noah goes missing. While at the arcade one day Lee invites Elle over to play a game and they make up and make plans for their upcoming birthday party. Before prom, Noah finally returns but to talk to Elle’s dad who says he does not approve but it is her decision.

Elle goes to prom with Lee and his girlfriend Rachel and has a good time until a replica of their kissing booth is revealed. Noah comes out from behind the curtains to tell Elle that he loves her but she responds by saying that she cannot keep on hurting the people she loves because of him and that no one wants them to be together. Noah agrees to this but then asks her what does she want. To this Elle does not seem to have an answer and she runs away sobbing. Rachel chases after her but she gets away before they can say anything.

The next day at their costume themed birthday party, Elle begins missing Noah and decides to leave. Lee stops her and Elle tells him that she loves him but she also loves Noah and if he can’t accept that then maybe they shouldn’t be friends. Lee, finally accepts that Noah makes her happy and agrees to help Elle find him. Elle and Lee get in the car and leave for the airport. She starts sharing her true feelings for Noah to Lee and then it is revealed that all this time in the car it was Noah in Lee’s costume. Elle is surprised to see Noah and admits to him that she loves him. They embrace and kiss.

During the next few weeks, Elle and Noah spend every day together before he has to leave for college. When it is time to go Elle goes with him to the airport and he leaves. After watching him leave, she drives off on Noah's motorcycle saying that she does not know if they will be together forever but she knows that a part of her heart will always belong to Noah Flynn. The story ends with Elle stating that everything happened just because of the Kissing Booth.

1. The Notebook.
   The Notebook is a 2004 American romantic drama film directed by Nick Cassavetes and based on Nicholas Sparks 1996 novel of the same name. The film stars Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams as a young couple who fall in love in the 1940. Their story is narrated from the present day by an elderly man (portrayed by James Garner) telling the tale to a fellow nursing home resident (played by Gena Rowlands, who is Cassavetes's mother).

Synopsis.
In 1940, Seabrook Island, South Carolina, poor quarry worker Noah Calhoun sees 17-year-old heiress Allison "Allie" Hamilton at a carnival and they have a summer love affair. Noah takes Allie to an abandoned house that he intends to buy for them. They try to make love for the first time, but are interrupted by Noah's friend Fin with the news that Allie's parents have the police looking for her.

When Allie and Noah return to her parents' mansion, Allie's mother Anne calls Noah trash and they ban her from seeing Noah. Noah walks out and Allie chases after him. They have an ensuing argument and break up. The next morning, Anne announces that the family is returning home to Charleston. Allie attempts to contact Noah, but is unable to find him, so she asks Fin to tell Noah that she loves him. When Noah gets the message he rushes to Allie's home, only to find the house gated up and empty.

Noah writes to Allie every day for a year but Anne intercepts the letters such that they never reach Allie. Noah enlists with Fin to fight in World War II, where Fin is killed in battle. Allie volunteers in a hospital for wounded soldiers, where she meets captain Lon Hammond Jr., a young lawyer who comes from old Southern money. After a few years being together, the two become engaged, to the delight of Allie's parents.

When Noah returns from the war, his father has sold their home so that Noah can buy the abandoned house. While visiting Charleston, Noah witnesses Allie and Lon kissing at a restaurant; he convinces himself that if he restores the house, Allie will come back to him. Later, while Allie is being fitted for her wedding dress, Allie is startled to see in the newspaper that Noah has completed the house to the specifications she made years before.

After Allie asks permission from Lon to take a little trip before the wedding, Allie returns to Seabrook to find Noah living in the restored house. The two renew their relationship and make love. Several days later, Anne appears in the morning on Noah's doorstep to warn Allie that Lon has followed her to Seabrook. Anne reveals that, in her youth, she had been in love with a lower-class young man and was still thinking about him; Anne then gives Allie the letters that Noah wrote to her as an admission that she had hidden them from Allie. Subsequently, Allie confesses to Lon that she had spent time with Noah, and eventually returns to her relationship with Noah.

In the present narrative, it is revealed that the elderly woman is dementia-stricken Allie, Duke is actually Noah and that he had been told by Allie during the early stages of her illness to reread their journals to help her recall her past. She briefly remembers Noah but soon forgets. Her ensuing panic forces medical personnel to sedate her. Noah suffers a heart attack and is sent to the hospital while Allie is sent to a dementia ward in the same hospital. Noah visits Allie's room in the middle of the night causing her to remember him again and proceeds to remind her of her illness, though he reassures her that they can do anything with the love they share. While sleeping, both Noah and Allie pass away and a nurse discovers them in the morning.

1. 50 First Dates.
   50 First Dates, As if it were the first time in Latin America or 50 first dates in Spain is a romantic comedy movie of the year 2004, starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore and directed by Peter Segal.
   It is the second of the three occasions that Sandler and Barrymore have worked together. The first was in the movie The Wedding Singer in 1998, and the third was in the film Blended in 2014.

Synopsis.
Henry Roth (Adam Sandler), a marine biologist living in Hawaii, meets Lucy Whitmore (Drew Barrymore), an art teacher, in a cafeteria one morning. Coincidentally, they start a relationship but it is soon discovered that Lucy suffers from anterograde amnesia as a result of an accident suffered a year earlier. The result is that he has no memory of anything that has happened between the day of the accident and the present, because Lucy is unable to convert short-term memory in the long term. Every morning he wakes up having lost all the memory of the previous day. He believes, innocently, that every day is October 13, 2002. His brother and father act as if it were that day, the father's birthday, to prevent Lucy from suffering and discover the accident.

Because of Lucy's special situation, Henry strives to get new and imaginative ways to get Lucy's attention every day, even though his father and brother warn him not to go to the cafeteria and take advantage of the situation. However, Henry fulfilling what he promised, stops going to the cafeteria, but is located on the road between the premises and Lucy's house. The father and brother end up discovering it because Lucy sings Would not It Be Nice while painting the garage if she has met Henry. So, thanks to Henry's determination and Lucy's feeling happy when she sees him, the father and brother end up allowing him to see Lucy. The next day, Henry appears at home with a video explaining the accident and everything that has happened since then.

One morning, Lucy wakes up with Henry, in his bed, after spending the night together. When he does not remember him, he does not recognize him and attacks him. Henry leaves the room and Lucy hears a conversation between Henry and the doctor. They talk about Henry not enjoying his dream (exploring the Arctic) because he has decided to stay with Lucy thinking, hopefully, to remember the day to day. Lucy breaks up with him because she has the feeling that she takes Henry away from her dreams and, to leave no trace, burns her personal diary.

Henry is unable to continue his life without Lucy, but finally decides to go to the Arctic. Lucy's father and brother visit him, and they tell him that she is following his life, aware every day of his illness, and he goes happy always singing his song Would not It Be Nice. Before leaving him alone, the father gives him a CD of the Beach Boys. Henry believes that the fact that he is happy and singing the song is a sign that Lucy reminds him and returns to the center for people with memory problems, where Lucy had decided to live so as not to cause problems to others, giving art classes to others. When Henry enters and asks Lucy if she remembers her, she says no, but asks her to accompany him to her room. To his surprise, Henry sees a room full of paintings of himself in different artistic styles. She tells him that she does not know why she has painted them, but that she dreams of him every night. Henry explains his relationship with her and a kiss ends the scene.

Towards the end of the film, Lucy wakes up in a strange place but when she sees a video she realizes that she has married Henry. As he climbs the stairs, he realizes he is on a boat across the Arctic with Henry, his little daughter Nicole and Marlin, Lucy's father.

The song "Over the Rainbow", sung by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole, sounds while the ship Sea Serpent sails.
