Finally got chance to see 12 Strong tonight and it was a phenomenal movie. It was extremely entertaining and I recommend everyone to see it.
Rather than focus on some details of the movie, I'd like to praise it for touching on some geopolitics without shoving the normal Hollywood narrative down our throats. The relationship between General Dostrum and Hemsworth's character, Captain Mitch Nelson does a great job explaining some of the intricacies of Afghanistan's northern alliance and history. It's always sad and sobering to think that this once cradle of civilization has fallen to such lows based on constant proxy wars fought on its lands. While there is always an onus on the local population, the ending dialogue does a great job of foreshadowing the situation today.
"If you leave, you are cowards; if you stay you will become our enemy."
I'll leave it there because the movie itself was powerful and recommend you go see it in theaters.
12 Strong tells the story of the first Special Forces team deployed to Afghanistan after 9/11; under the leadership of a new captain, the team must work with an Afghan warlord to take down for the Taliban.
Well copied and pasted. Thanks for stopping by!
