Happy Death Day (2017)
Directed by Christopher B Landon
Plot: Campus brat, Tree (actual name), wakes up on her birthday like any other day. The only difference is she gets murdered by someone wearing a baby mask. Normally someone's story would end here.. but Tree finds herself starting her birthday all over again from the exact moment she woke up. She has to utilize her groundhog's day to solve the mystery of who killed her.
Refelction: I went and saw this in the theater last night and had a really fun experience. The writing is pretty clever and I found myself laughing out loud every so often. Think of this movie like Mean Girls meets Groundhog's Day meets an 80's slasher-- recipe for a good time. It'd be silly to expect any genuine scares out of this movie but I jumped a couple times. The killer runs around in a creepy baby mask which is supposed to be their school mascot (??). I found it to be pretty effective! This is a smart teen style horror movie that I feel has disappeared for the most part. Would welcome a return.
