A Song for the Web3 Generation?

We’ve finally got the crypto soundtrack of this market cycle - and it’s made by Hans Zimmer:

As a long time admirer of Hans Zimmer (since The Last Samurai), I have to confess that my feelings about his latest work, "The Tron Anthem," are complicated. While the anthem bears all the hallmark of a Zimmer score, it somehow doesn't resonate with me the way his film scores do. I think it's because, despite possessing Zimmer's musical signatures, the piece feels hollow and soulless - a corporate soundtrack.

Listening to "The Tron Anthem," I couldn't shake off the feeling that, although technically impeccable, the music was crafted more for a boardroom than a blockbuster. It's eerie, really, how it seems perfectly suited for a high-octane advertisement for whatever big project Justin Sun might launch next. The piece has all the makings of what could be a moving experience but ends up feeling more like a well-polished sales pitch.

I feel somewhat let down by this fusion of corporate and creative ambitions. Zimmer's music has always been more to me; a story piece, a narrative journey, transcending the ordinary. This track, though, doesn't take me on that journey. It keeps me rooted right here, reminding me that even legends like Zimmer can have their artistry co-opted by commercial interests.

Back in the last cycle, we actually had something similar; Avalanche (AVAX) paid good money to plug their logo in her half baked pop song about.. an avalanche?

It's a stark reminder of the business side of music, which can sometimes leave music lovers like myself yearning for more soul and less strategy in the compositions we hold dear.

Ava Max selling herself out is normal, which pop singers don’t sell themselves out as a business? But Hans Zimmer on the other hand is the least likely musical paragon you’d expect to wholesale his talent like this.

It just rubs me the wrong way.

Sort:

I hope he was well paid for this. Sun seems to have money to throw around despite his dodgy business dealings. It does sound a bit corporate and lacking in soul.

We need a Hive theme. We have plenty of talented musicians who could come up with something.

Maybe a HIVE soundtrack competition?
Or like those musicians they collab with their own piece / create the symphony from a main melody?
It would be very interesting if there's individual submission and team submission categories 😁
