My Top 50 Albums of the Last Decade

This was damn hard as I tend to listen to a LOT of genres, and several of these artists put out multiple albums that were incredible (I didn't want to repeat artists, however). I'd be curious to see what albums other people choose for their highlights from the last 10 years.

In hindsight, I really should've put RTJ2 on my Best 20 of the decade over Gorillaz. I don't think I listened to any album in 2014 more than that album. So many great choices on here! Definitely need to go back and listen to some of these again!

RTJ just keeps putting out absolute bangers. I think Killer Mike and El-P are going to be remembered as one of the classic duos, even when put up against the older school cats in comparisons. Musically and lyrically, their game is just super on point.

I have, believe it or not, never actually listened to a single Gorillaz album from front to back. They never really did much for me, despite my appreciation of the concept.

Nice list! Lots of records I know and like. Some I am not familiar with. So great opportunity to pick up some new favourites.

Two questions:
Why no Kanye West albums?
Childish Gambino would be on my top list. Into that "Awaken, my love!" album?

Tnx for the post!

That's a great question, and I knew someone would ask it about both of those artists since they're both absent from my list and most definitely appear on tons of other 'top of the decade' lists.

The base answer is that I simply didn't listen to enough of their respective discographies to be able to add them to my list. These were all albums that I listened to all the way through, and frequently.

The longer answer is this; with Childish Gambino, it's just pure laziness that I haven't delved deeper into his stuff. As for Kanye, I've never been much for his music, so I really haven't liked his albums over the years. However, having said that, I have to also say that I really dislike the guy as a human being, which also makes me not want to listen to his work. I can't often separate the work from the artist if the artist is a garbage human being...and he's not someone I find myself respecting much, so I choose not to support his work or listen to it.

Tnx for answering.

I can see it with Kanye. The ego and the subculture around him is at the best awful. But at the same time the production and songs are pretty good. Outstanding at the best. His last Jesus album is over the top. Event the production can't save it for me, since the topic of his music is so far away from my point of view.

Childish Gambino's last album is just in my alley. Funk/ P- funk/ rock, RnB/ prog. I enjoy that album a lot. But again its taste, and the moment the music hits you that will decide.

Tnx again for the post. I enjoyed it a lot and I will look further into the records you mentioned!
