I figured I'd repost this early post of mine for more to see! NSFW so beware the puritans.
I wrote a song called Fiks about a drug addict who conned me.
It was 4:30 am I was walking the Belgrade streets. A frail girl in her early 20’s approached me and said that her car had run out of gas.
She said she was out of cash and needed to ‘borrow’ a 1000 dinars (about $15). “Just to get to a gas station”. She gave me her mobile number and was going to get in touch as soon as she could to pay me back.
I was a little tipsy and her story sounded believable enough.
There was a moment when I handed her the cash that her sunken, pale blue eyes caught mine. Her gaze was cold, but apologetic. There was a solemn feeling of guilt in the air as she took the money. And I knew in that moment that I would never see her again.
Maybe it was her fragile figure, the bruises on her arms, or perhaps it was the fact that my friends told me she’s known around those parts and I fell for one of the oldest cons in the book.
So I wrote a somewhat vitriolic, somewhat twisted, somewhat angry, anti-climactic song. Because that’s what the situation evoked in me at the time. I hope that anyone struggling with addiction has the resources and support they need to overcome the situation.
A LITTLE NOTE ON THE VIDEO
This was my first music video. My brother (whose work you’ll undoubtedly see if you decide to follow my stuff) directed it. He agreed to direct it on the condition that I let him do whatever he wanted. I had no problem with this. His idea was, he wanted to have a naked dude breakdance to my song. It is the best concept for a music video that I have ever heard. Thanks Aleks.
