Wu Newsflash - More drama, two new lawsuits and touring Australia 📣

in #music7 years ago (edited)

Hello friends and family!

I hope you guys feel great, enjoy the beautiful weather and listen to some Wu-Tang Clan. It was a bit quiet for the past couple of weeks, trying to find a balance can be hard sometimes. Since my Wu Wednesday post's are something I really enjoy and cherish I want to get back on track & share some news with you today:

Ex-producer sues RZA and brother for $500K in ‘unpaid royalties’

Former producer Selwyn Bougard who is also known as '4th Disciple' and now goes by the name 'El-Divine Amir Bey' plans to sue RZA and Wu-Tang Productions for unpaid royalties which stake near half a million dollar! He filed a lawsuit last week at the New York County Clerk office. If you are interested and like to read, you can find the lawsuit here.

Bey said he was young and a bit naive, hired somewhere between 1993 and 1994 working on the group's debut album Enter The 36 Chambers (“The Mystery of Chess Boxing”), “Impossible, “The City,” and “Better Tomorrow” on Wu-Tang Forever. Take a look at his discography here.
It was never clear nor did he received an accounting on how much money the music earned. Bey stated RZA and Wu-Tang Productions owe him a lot of money, and since he has an attorney and now representation, he is finally able to collect his check.

Photographer who shot the album cover said he has never been paid!

Damn, looks like the whole album is cursed. The Wu-Tang Clan has been allegedly sued again, now for their album" Once Upon a Time In Shaolin "!

Photographer Warren Patterson shot the cover for the famous album according to 'The Blast' and has worked more than 80 hours on it. The problem? He said he never received any payment for it, completely unaware the photos were even used. Patterson is now heading to court asking for a million dollars in compensation for his efforts and for being left in the dark as to what would happen to his work since he never gave any permission to do so.

Wu-Tang Clan founder Method Man has some words for the photographer. A spokesman said, "Method Man did not pick the photograph or approve it for the 'Wu-Tang Clan' album."

Well, who did it? It seems like RZA is pulling a lot of strings, leaving other members unaware of certain situations. You remember when U-God filed a lawsuit for unpaid royalties? The whole drama makes me a bit sad.. on to some good news!

Today's post will end with a Wu quote. Have an awesome week <3

@hazel420

Sort:

hahaha... that quote is awkwardly fitting to these weird business and legal shenanigans... ugh... I don't know... wouldn't it be nice if we could just listen to some dope beats and tight flows... do people need to make everything just about money matters...

well I guess money is a recurring theme in their music... so maybe it does all make sense?! Money corrupts!

Cash Rules Everything Around Me

it does, on so many levels.. funny! yeah, money corrupts, very true! it's more like "economics drives everything around me."
